This was recognized and resented amongst the population and the positions of power were given to non jews in 37-39. The power structure was not changed though. It was a tragedy indeed. A tragedy for the population of the Ukraine (half of which was Russian) but also of the Volga Region, Urals, Kazakhstan and the whole country. A tragedy for Russian peasants as well as other ethnicities.
Ukrainian Nationalists do not really care abut the tragedy. They are interested in blaming "Russian Jews" and "Russia". They are trying to use the common tragedy of the people to suit their Nationalistic agenda.

That's why ppl use the term interchangably. Putin does his ppl no favors by labeling all of them complicit in soviet crimes, which were committed by ALL communists of every nation. INCLUDING Russian and Ukrainain. I always use the term Soviet. but it's your gov's fault for putting itself as the "successor"

The idea that the famine in Ukraine was purposly launched is ridiculous Nazi propaganda which the world seems to believe. History has proven there WAS a drought in Ukraine in 1932. Plus the Kulaks burned all the crops protesting against the collectivization. The combination of the dought and sabbatoge started the famine. Ukraine played a huge part in being responsible for its own famine.
