Faak man you're too fucking good! How do you usually get into the "zone" or "muse" if you will, to write? Cause whenever I write something, it could take me a month before I get back into the zone to write something else. You seem to be able to do it at will with all the crazy shit you come out with.
You can see that again at 1:02, its sounds like you should play the first fret in the 6th string, instead you are hitting the second or third fret in the 5th fret :S
@Periphery but look, it sounds like you are playing just the open 6th string but it looks like you are playing the second fret in the 5th string! its more like in 1:02
@OfficialPyez It's possible got a Floyd Rose trem or something similar, because bending another string with this bridge on causes the other notes to detune, so he's using that to make the open 6th lower. I do the same thing with my Ibanez RG :)
Misha shows a complete disregard for theory, especially with that fucked up little chromatic run during the first bar of the song. And it's amazing.
I would love to learn how to play stuff like this, but it sucks because I find that once you learn theory, at least in my case, it seems like I HAVE to know what notes I can and cannot use and what key I'm in etc. Thus it's really restricting. If you don't know theory and you're already writing stuff like this, why bother?
The time has come for Free energy to be revealed ,But some very powerfull ppl don't want you and me to be free from energy costs,if you want a real Free energy Magnet Motor, get the blueprints at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Free yourself!
hey bulb, you should make a bunch of tech death songs to market another band to Sumerian, im sure it would kick ass and would also make Sumerian happy =]
I totally agree that you don't need theory to become a great guitar player or song writer. However suggesting that theory creates rules and boundaries within music is completely mental...
EVERYTHING that bulb played here could be broken down into a theortical stand point, especially from an intervallic perspective. The dissonance that Bulb has mastered is from a use of many dissonant sounding intervals, although not essential theory can only enhance your understanding of music.
Not really because Periphery ain't really that famous and usually its not just SOME person in playboy ... its more like a crazy hardcore sex tape cuz its just more amazing than just some pictures in a magazine, its a full 30 minute poodge sesh
@Periphery this is the kind of genius that comes from not knowing musical theory. I don't think i can ever write a song and not think of where the key change is gonna happen and what's a fifth off the other and what timing is gonna switch when. I wish i relied on my ears naturally a lot more... I'm certainly working on it :)
Well i wanna pull the stockpickups out of my cheap ass jackson and put a new bridge in it. I cant afford bareknuckle pickups, im still in high school... and broke. What other pickups are good for a djent tone?
Dude, Bulb, ive been listening to all your stuff NON STOP. You are so inspirational and i cant stress that enough. Your sound and techniques hit the spot! this is the type of playing ive been messing with for a long time now and you are definitely my top inspiration. DJENT ARE TEH PWN. OMG.
This is totally why youtube kicks everything else in the balls....This is like a brand new genre that would be aptly titled: "Don't-even-try-to-understand-how-i-thought-of-this-core"
But it's pure brilliance and completely inspirational.
Probably the wrong place to ask but do you use any samples on your drums Misha? (blending them in and what not). Your snares always sound great. Great playing.
If you notice when everything cuts out, you can hear his actual tone, which isn't very djenty. You are hearing mostly the recorded version in this video.
Hey misha can I ask a quick guitar technique question? How hard is your right hand pick attack, and how relaxed are your left hand fingers? It looks like you have minimal tension in both hands
well to get a djenty sound, you definetely want to pick relatively hard. during the fast parts of this song, i guess both hands are more relaxed, but if you watch some other videos he uses a very hard attack a lot of the time. correct me if im wrong misha
Amazing man. I first heard this when you posted it on the Fractal boards (fellow Axe-FX user here w00t!). Wonder why you didn't use the Axe-FX for this vid?
Anyway... what tuning is this in? I'm hearing drop B but I don't have any reference songs to go from...
Haha no i brought the axefx with me, i recorded the song in mauritius and used the axefx on it, in fact. The reason i didnt is the reason i dont do many things: im a lazy bastard and i was already plugged into the amp haha.
Do a djent technique tutorial video. I'll marry you, then buy every Periphery and Bulb cd for the rest of the time you put them out. I'm mainly and a drummer and love jamming along to Periph tunes, but I just picked up the guitar a year ago and can't get consistant palm muting down.
Thanks so much man! Ah no im an idiot with theory, never got around to learning it mainly cuz i always end up relying on my ears instead. Maybe someday though!
Hey Another question, when you record your Guitar do you Mic it? or do you just plug it in to your interface straight from your crazy effects machine that i cant think of the name right now.... point is when i record direct from my pod xt it sounds sucky.
Rats, Maybe my interface is to gay to handle the gain im putting through because theres a buttload of hiss when I record direct but when i hear it through the amp its wonderful. Interestingly enough we did buy it from atomic haha!
about 10 years ago, but i only started focusing on it seriously instead of drums about 6 or 7 years ago, needless to say i should be a lot better than i am...
While Hendrix and Timmons are aMAzINg, there are at least 10000^2 guitarists that play like that and our boy Bulb here has his own sound. Whatever you do, Bulb, don't waver in your quest for your own voice. Unless your voice is like Andy Timmons after all. Heh
Out of interest have you played any baritones you can recommend? I'm trying out an Ibanez mm1 at the moment but those Fender jaguar baritones look like they could be sparkly and snappy and nice. Any knowledge to share? Tanks
to be quite honest, baritones always felt really strange to me so i have never gotten along well with them, in fact the only case in which a baritone works well is on an 8 string, and even then its only best if its fanned!
Mind = blown -.-

I don't mean to be a hater, but..
Although this song is impressive and shows off a large amount of skill,
It lacks any sort of structure.
It's too many different concepts packed into one song, with no time to really take anything in.
Great playing though.

that's the whole point of tech death in the first place
a plethora of well executed ideas in a short, percussive, tight, and intense amount of time.
its an acquired taste, but one of my very favorites out of the metal genres =]
TruNikkaz 2 years ago
It does have structure if you listen to it. Theres the verse, kind of a chorus, a breakdown, and an outro.
verse-chorus-breakdown-verse-chorus-outro
but point being there is are elements of the song that repeat, and it all flows together. So imo it doesn't lack any structure

wow,me too but i am far from where you are now. i would love to see you playing a some more classic rock-style take.hendrix or andy timmons like.
DayneJee 3 years ago
