I think this is the studio version from her second album, "The Hardest Part". It tells the story of her parent's relationship. Fabulous album... "The show" is great too.
One of the best songs she has ever recorded. so powerful! She is an underground superstar. what a breath of fresh air. she chooses artistic integrity over the Nashville diva machine. kudos to u A.M.! ...oh by the way she writes her own songs, plays guitar, sings like an angel, and is beautiful. not too shabby
The background vocalist is Lonesome Bob - a giant biker truck driver man. I saw him at the WDVX spring benefit thing in Knoxville a few years ago. The man is a trip. Allison - and this song - knock me out every time i hear it. It reminds me of something from Shadowland, the Owen Bradley - K D Lang collaboration they did just before she blew out of Nashville due to the anti-gay bias she encountered there. Our loss.
How many women can relate to the lyrics here?! (The old, 'It'll never happen again..' etc etc) This track never fails to move me to tears: especially towards the end when you get to hear the male vocals after Alison sings: "Lets hear it, once more for old times sake.." And I'm a guy!!
An example of how a country song can be both empowering for women and convey how strong yet fragile a person can be.
FANTASTIC IN CONCERT

When the guitar kicks in at 04:53, it sounds like it is crying (well, to me it does).

Best break-up song ever. Lonesome Bob is the guy who comes in later in the song. He's a hell of a musician himself. Beautiful.

One of the best songs ever written, performed and recorded. One of the most under rated artists of all time along with her sister....
