If you want to look up one such massacre, google SS Division Götz von Berlichingen on Wikipedia and it tells of the massacre of 200 SS grenadiers by the Americans in Normandy. Peiper was not "assasinated". On July 13, by midnight, a bunch of unknown people set fire to his house in Traves. Apparently, Peiper kept running in and out of his house to save essential things (papers, etc.). When coming back in, a burning barn came down and hit him deadly. He was found on July 14 (French National Holiday). The body was so charred that even his wife and son couldn't identify it.
Sad end for someone who had already more than paid for his beliefs and engagement.

Peiper sure was convinced he had to protect Western Europe from Stalinism. However, that is not the full picture. From his time as Himmlers adjutant he knew about the evil sides of nazism. My point is that Peiper was neither a hero, nor a demon. He was a human being, no more, no less.

My point is that Peiper was neither a hero, nor a demon. He was a human being, no more, no less.
Yes, long may his memory live on. However, he should not be glorified. He deserves respect for what he endured. But he also deserves criticism for his lifelong engagement for nazism - and (thus) everything that came along with it.
I think all of us should let him rest in peace, instead of hating on him, or trying to instrumentalise him for neo-nazi ambitions.

Come on, just glance over the comments on the youtube sites that are dedicated to JPeiper and you'll see immediately what I mean.
As to principles and ideas: The 3rd Reich wouldn't have become a reality without people defending it as unconditionally and fanatically as JPeiper.
Of course he did not play in the same league as the Death Head Divisions, however he eye-witnessed gassings himself and knew very well WHAT he was fighting for, whether he liked THESE aspects or not...

The trouble is, people are fed crap and believe it. They don`t look at the removal of slums, full employment, fantastic building projects, looking after ordinary folk with holiday destinations.All this was acheived in a few sort years by the NSDAP. People believe the rubbish the media feed them. Some of us are more enlightened and see it for what it is.

I don't need to look, I know that. However, that doesn't change the fact that a) nazis invaded the USSR and not vice versa, and b) nazis had murdered millions of Soviets, before the rain came back, from Nemmersdorf to Berlin and elswhere.

Perhaps Stalin would have tried, perhaps not. That's speculative, but it is a matter of fact, that Nazis invaded the USSR and that they committed horrendous crimes there, from the first day onwards (yes, I know that crimes were committed to Wehrmacht- and SS-troupers, as well, I read Seidlers' books...).
And I definitely prefer living in todays' Germany/Austria to living in the weak Weimar Republic, or the 3rd Reich, if that's what you are getting at with Sodom and Gomorrha...

Well I certainly wouldn`t argue with your right to believe what you wish. I`m never going to change your point of view and you certainly won`t change mine. I work in an environment whre i see the worst of scoiety. people need to fear and respect something. Today thay fear neither God nor man. In that sense the human race is heading into the abyss at an ever accelerating speed.

Meines Wissens war Joachim Peiper SS-Standartenführer. In diesem Video wird er maximal mit Rangabzeichen eines SS-Obersturmbannfühers gezeigt. Liegt es am Mangel an Fotos oder ist meine Annahme über den erreichten Dienstgrad Herrn Peipers falsch?
P.S. Ich konnte auch im Netz kein Foto finden, dass den Helden der Ardennenoffensive als SS-Stdf. zeigt.
