  • rock on my scottish bro

  • Good Job man, If I could have such videos when I was 17... but I still play guitar at 56 and I'm happy watching this! Go On...

  • I wouldn't dare put a lesson on here. Too many critics!

  • Dude Great Way to instruct Would like more of this Thanks

  • If you want to learn all the parts check out GameProReview2 channel. He has a lot of free lessons. I subscribe and have learned alot.

  • dont sound right to me

  • WHERE THE FUCKING BULLSHIT IS THE NEXT PART!!!!!!??? >_<""""

  • @skyhawks4ever.... look up the tonedr for this song.......

  • Very nice instruction where is the "all right now" chorus Part 2?

  • where the heck is part 2?

  • All there are two seperate mixes to this song. The single version that's 4 mins long and the album version that's 5min long. The guitar track on each is a completely different take.

  • The last change would be the fact that he plays the "All right now" chorus part on the low E string at the 12th fret...not with a drone on the A string with the chord on the 7th fret.

Check out the Top of the Pops video at 0:49. You can see clearly hes doing that wind cries mary type inversion at the 12th fret. It sounds drone-y because of the inversion and the low E string notes.

Would be nice if this video could be updated. It would be the best version on the web with these changes.

  • The next sublety has already been brought up but on the D add 7 not only is the A on the low E being held but the F# on the 2nd fret of the high E is being held.

This subtlety, at least for me, makes the chord progress much more intuitive to play, because you fingering then tends to feel like you are walking down the stings, Try it. Try both ways. With the F# your finger go with what you hear musically...without the F# it felt like my finger was an opposing directions from what I was hearing.

  • If you look at the top of pops video you also can seetwo othe interesting things with the 5th fret A on the low string.

    1) He is holding it through all the chords on the riff not just the open A

    2) He is sliding down the E string for accents (no way this could happen on open A)

  • There seems to be a lot of debate on various lessons about how to play the first A chord in this riff...

    1) 5th fret A on the low E string.

    2) simply open A

    3) 5th fret A on thehigh E string.

It is the first option and it can be proved without a doubt. Look at the following video of Free playing on Top of the Pops...

Look at 1:05 and there it is. No question.

  • wonderful! thank you for such clear, precise teaching. i am now a big fan of your site.

ready for Steve Howe's "America" solo...hint hint

  • Is this a copy of Brian May's "Red Special" guitar?

  • @Capillus Yup!

  • Wrong, wrong, wrong!

  • This is the only tutorial ive come across that shows playing the a on the 6th string. Looking at every free video you can see Paul is clearly using his pinky on the 6th string. What else is incorrect?

  • @Shad0wBalrog Stupid comment

  • Nope, try using your ears. The 2nd part of the riff incorporates the open G along with the F# (3rd finger, 2nd fret on D string). In the original the first time it goes to this modded D chord you mainly hear the F# but the 2nd time the G is plain to hear. It's a classic K.I.S.S. moment - that 2nd riff chord is the simplest of open positions, and to approximate the original? - be a little sloppy.

  • this is wrong, sorry

  • very cool.....

  • Best instruction of all.... i finally can play this riff....lol not very well but me and the cat are happy...!!!

  • This is how guitar should be taught. Showing close up fret board and also chord boxes, Tab and music notation.

  • This is right except you do not play the first riff with you're last finger on the 6th string.

  • @MrTommyGriffiths you are right. Instead of playing another low A note, they play an A chord with only A and E notes, by using your pinky on the 4th fret and play the 1st and 2nd string

  • @MrTommyGriffiths Are you sure...in this video is seems Paul is hitting that at 01:12

    watch?v=htuxb-m4-ng

  • the beginning is alright, still missing something and section two is just not right, compare it with the original or with the one from queen with paul rodgers u can hear it clearly there, otherwise nice try

  • i dont know great lesson but just doesn't sound right...

  • Er.. Is it just me or is that A chord impossible?

  • @garyhead22 U SOOO RIGHT

  • @garyhead22 its just u

  • cheese ballls?

  • pure cheese balls
