In 1850, the LDS Mormon Church went to Hawaii and converted 4,000 Hawaiians. As a Mormon, a person must accept the racist doctrine of the Church because true believers say what the prophets have said is true. A member of the Mormon religion therefore indirectly supports racism even if they personally do not think that the races with "white" skin are superior.

As a Mormon, a person must accept the racist doctrine of the Church because true believers say what the prophets have said is true. Heck, remember that until 1978 almost 20 years after civil rights were won in this country, Mormons still wouldn't let blacks hold the priesthood based on.... Color. I.E. Racism

BUT, the official "History of the Church" has Black men, in the Nauvoo Period, of the church, holding the Priesthood! It was Brigham Young who took that priesthood away from them!
And, Hinckley is NOT ignorant of the History of the Church. He was very old, after all: and, it can be presumed that he read church history at least ONCE, in his lifetime.
