Wow! Thanks so much for posting this!!!! I've never learned a song as hard as this one and have been playing for a little over a year.....anyway, this makes it easier than the chord websites. Thanks again!
What an awesome tutorial Dave! I love your band and especially this song--I'm going to perform it at school while singing but I don't think I can multi-task like this! Great tutorial though, I'm going to play it on my spare time but for now, I'm going to stick with standard tuning! Thanks, this has been awesome! :D
THANKS DAVE!! this is so fun to play, thanks so much for teaching me!! This is my favorite Lady A song by far and now I can play it myself! And it's cool to say "oh ya this song? DAVE HAYWOOD taught me how to play it! " thanks again! I owe you some sour patch kids :)
Gosh I know you've already heard this from thousands of people, but thanks for actually sitting down and teaching us fans of yours how to play your songs on guitar! It means a lot to us. Especially the really dedicated guitar players out there such as myself who look at guitar as something more than a hobby. At least now we don't have to worry about playing the song incorrectly with all the wrong chords! :) Thanks again!
This video is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to make videos like this. The only thing I need help with is the strumming pattern for this song. I can’t seem to get it.
I love this thank you so much dave!! but i have a question so is dadgad is half a step down from the normal tuning? and then C# G# C# F# G# C# is half a step down from dadgad? so basically one step down from the normal tuning? someone please awnser :p This is kinda of a really important song to me! thanks! xxx
@Hollywoodgirl1010 DADGAD is just an alternate form of tuning. The A, D, G (3rd, 4th, 5th) strings remain the same like in standard EADGBE. Only 1st (E), 2nd(B) and 6th(E) strings need to be re-tuned to D, A and D respectively. Then, once u get DADGAD, u tune every string a half-step down to C# G# C# F# G# C#. Hope this helps. :)
I share everyone's views and thank with you Dave. But let me say also, that we love your album. Infact my daughter absolutely love American Honey, so to have this video is awesome. We sang the song to my mum who loves country music full stop. She is only 9 years old but she is your number one fan!!! :) thank you so much!!!
Just when I thought Lady A couldn't go any higher in my estimation, I find this. How cool to be able to say that Dave Haywood taught me how to play American Honey! Love you guys... come back to the UK soon!
Your guitar is awesome man, love the red- I have a red Takamine! Thanks for the thorough instruction- always good to get tips straight from the creator.. keep up the good work LA
Thank you soo much! This was soo helpful! I love how you took your time and didn`t rush, and you made it easier because you explained everything! Thank you! I love you guys! :) <3

I'm very, very new to learning how to play the guitar but this video really explained how to play the chords. I guess most songs aren't this complicated (i really don't know?) but I wish there were more videos like this to explain the songs.

Dave is great guy. Even they are much busy with their tours and album but still he takes the time for us..Thanks Dave...I am sure you are such a great human being
Dave, it’s been said many times on here but I had to say it once again, Thank You! NO ONE else does this. It means a lot to your fans, who not only love to listen to your music but want to play it too, for you to take your time and show us how. It’s such a great thing. It seems that maybe you "get it" just a little bit more than others in your position.

Dave. Thank you so much. You don't realize how much this means to your fans. I usually just get on YouTube to find a cover someone made and then try to learn from there but for a big time band to make videos on how to play their songs is amazing! I love Lady A so much more than I already did! :) -3
And can you please help with the strumming patter for the riff? Please and thank youu. :)
This is seriously so amazing!!!!! I'm a diehard Lady A fan, and my band (Boothill Ridge) covers this song and I learned it forever ago by ear. But NOW seeing this, I'm excited because I was right for about 98% of it! Thanks a lot Dave, this is amazing!!!
Big time star showing his tricks and explaining it step by step? You sir, are a whole new level of awesome! I'm gonna buy the whole album cause of this - too cool.
i love this. i wish more artists would be so open to thier fans. thats so awesome. ♥
this makes me want to practice my guitar so much more. i'm just now getting tough fingers. lol. i'm definately taking the time to learn the real version.
Very simple yet complex tuning..... beautiful progression though. Riff is simple yet nice sound to it. And alot of covers ive heard do not do this tuning which is sad cause it takes alot away from the overall sound. Well done Dave. Keep producing this kinda music dont get away from it. God Bless
This is incredible, I've not seen a lot of artists do that ! You are just great for that ! Plus the song is incredibly good. I think everybody appreciates it and will appreciate the ones you'll do in the future !
Dave thank you so much for not only teaching how to play it but actually taking the time to explain how to tune and giving the extra details that us hobby players need. This song will sound great coming out of my new Talyor 214 i cant wait until my wife can sing along as i play.I love the music yall are putting out there, keep up the good work and THANKS again.
Thanks so so much for this Dave! American Honey is one of my favourite songs at the moment. And now I can play it too! See you in London next month!! :D
Wow! You are awesome! thanks so much for make this tutorial. I've learnt this song so fast and is so sweet and perfect for stay in a beach with a guitar.
Dave, you have done something totally un-heard of, for a recording artist to do,And I really appreicate what you have done teaching this to all of us who Love the song, and wanted to learn it......Thank-You soo much....You are way cool....
Ive never taken a guitar lesson by anyone in my life. I just picked up a guitar a few months ago (I was 14) and started messing around with it. I acualy got all of this! Even the whole tuning and struming! Your a great teacher, thanks for taking the time to do this<3
This is so awesome. You guys are amazing (I almost cried the first time I heard this song because it Was me!) Thank you so much. Wish you were here to give lessons in person! (...I hope that's not as creepy as it sounds. You just seem like a neat person :D )
Thank you so much dave, ive loved this song and love to sing this one. now i can play it and have my friend sing it. We are actually going to your bands concert this saturday in Dallas, i cant wait to see you there.
Thank you for all the poetic songs Lady Antebellum have composed.
Thank you for all of your effort. May god always be with you.
There's a reason why dave here actually shows us how to play their songs.. obviously they must love what they do for what they do instead of jus for the money. Lady Antebellum is most definately the BEST band out there... EVER... And for many reason.. like how true they are to their fans.. for any musician to take time to do this... I think it deserves an award... :) Thanx Dave, ur awesome!..
Thanks Dave!!! Saw this bout month ago! Practiced and now sounds great...er not as good as u but u know. The old lady love it when I played 4 her :)!!!
I think it is absolutely INCREDIBLE that you took the time to make this video. It just shows how much you appreciate your fans. I love your group but my respect and adoration went up when I found this video. I've never seen or heard of another artist doing this. Thank you. =]
Dude....you need to get into the guitar DVD instructional market; you have a great gift for not only playing but being able to teach in a way that is easily understandable...just like my guitar hero Pete Huttlinger.
i love it!!! i learned american honey from ultimate guitar, but ur way is so much cooler and sounds alot better. but i didnt feel like tuning my guitar all over whenever i wanted to play it. but i love the harmonic and the way it sounds when u play. I LOVE LADY A!! :D keep writing music!
Thanks for the info on the down tuning. I was attempting it with standard tuning and was beginning to thing that you had super powers to make that work and still look so easy. This makes SO much more sense.
Dude, thank you so much for posting this. I couldn't find any tabs for this song. Having the original artist show you how to play it is EPIC! Thank you for taking the time to tutor your guitar playing fans.
Seriously man. Totally cool of you to take the time to do this. I was impressed that you would show how to do Need You Now and then I login and see this song as well. Seriously. Very Awesome of you. I don't know of any other band that would do this for folks trying to learn your songs. I really do appreciate it. Tom

Hey! Are you a fan of the incredible Lady Antebellum, and from the UK?? Then please please follow @LadyAUK on twitter! We MUST get Lady A into the UK! :)
Check out my channel for a cover of Lady Antebellums American Honey and the duet with my friend Chris of Lady Antebellums I Run To You!!! Please Rate Subscribe and let me know what you think!! New videos of Lady Antebellums Need You Now this Friday!! Thanks :D
Does anyone know what kind of guitar this is? I know its a Gibson Standard, but model wise? It looks like a custom since the red-wine fade color isnt marketed mainstream on acoustic...
Ahhhhhhhhh! Thank you so much!!!! I'm SO HAPPY that I FINALLY know this song- all thanks to you! I love this song!!!!!!!! O my gosh thanks so much!

for beginners who don't want to retune for one song, you can use
verse....C...Am...F...Dm....C
Chorus...F...C...Am...G
Bridge....Am...G...F....Dm....C
not my version, just something I found that words good as a cheat online
Love the original version in this video though

Dude....you need to get into the guitar DVD instructional market; you have a great gift for not only playing but being able to teach in a way that is easily understandable...just like my guitar hero Pete Huttlinger.

question: can you just put a capo on the first fret? is that the same as what you tuned it down to?

I saw Slim capo on 1 when they played this song on Ellen.

i love it!!! i learned american honey from ultimate guitar, but ur way is so much cooler and sounds alot better. but i didnt feel like tuning my guitar all over whenever i wanted to play it. but i love the harmonic and the way it sounds when u play. I LOVE LADY A!! :D keep writing music!

Great vid thx for doing it! But question...when doing the opening riff, what strings get strummed? all of them< or just bottom three?
CDJcomedy 1 year ago
Thanks for the info on the down tuning. I was attempting it with standard tuning and was beginning to thing that you had super powers to make that work and still look so easy. This makes SO much more sense.

Seriously man. Totally cool of you to take the time to do this. I was impressed that you would show how to do Need You Now and then I login and see this song as well. Seriously. Very Awesome of you. I don't know of any other band that would do this for folks trying to learn your songs. I really do appreciate it. Tom

Does anyone know what kind of guitar this is? I know its a Gibson Standard, but model wise? It looks like a custom since the red-wine fade color isnt marketed mainstream on acoustic...
Any help would be amazing!
