  • Dave you are AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to show us how to play these! I would love to see more :) Please

  • Wow! Thanks so much for posting this!!!! I've never learned a song as hard as this one and have been playing for a little over a year.....anyway, this makes it easier than the chord websites. Thanks again!

  • LOVE YOU DAVE <33

  • What an awesome tutorial Dave! I love your band and especially this song--I'm going to perform it at school while singing but I don't think I can multi-task like this! Great tutorial though, I'm going to play it on my spare time but for now, I'm going to stick with standard tuning! Thanks, this has been awesome! :D

  • Amazing!! :D

  • Thanks Dave ....

  • Dave... that was awesome... thanks for taking the time to show us! You are TOO cool!

  • wow... so nice..

  • Thank you Dave for the lesson and for being real.

  • Thumbs Up If you Love Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  • DAVE much thanks!!!!!

May God Bless You!!!! :D :D

  • I feel like I'm just chilling and jammin' with Dave :D This is so cool!! :D

    Thank you so much!

  • THANKS DAVE!! this is so fun to play, thanks so much for teaching me!! This is my favorite Lady A song by far and now I can play it myself! And it's cool to say "oh ya this song? DAVE HAYWOOD taught me how to play it! " thanks again! I owe you some sour patch kids :)

  • Gosh I know you've already heard this from thousands of people, but thanks for actually sitting down and teaching us fans of yours how to play your songs on guitar! It means a lot to us. Especially the really dedicated guitar players out there such as myself who look at guitar as something more than a hobby. At least now we don't have to worry about playing the song incorrectly with all the wrong chords! :) Thanks again!

  • This video is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to make videos like this. The only thing I need help with is the strumming pattern for this song. I can’t seem to get it.

  • I love this thank you so much dave!! but i have a question so is dadgad is half a step down from the normal tuning? and then C# G# C# F# G# C# is half a step down from dadgad? so basically one step down from the normal tuning? someone please awnser :p This is kinda of a really important song to me! thanks! xxx

  • @Hollywoodgirl1010 DADGAD is just an alternate form of tuning. The A, D, G (3rd, 4th, 5th) strings remain the same like in standard EADGBE. Only 1st (E), 2nd(B) and 6th(E) strings need to be re-tuned to D, A and D respectively. Then, once u get DADGAD, u tune every string a half-step down to C# G# C# F# G# C#. Hope this helps. :)

  • @zeehee Hey thanks so much! I actually got it tuned the way dave does it! This helped alot! :D

  • Nice one!! Could you teach us "I Run To You?"

  • hot damn, nice tutorial

  • Dave, you are awesome to do this for your fans! Thank you so much! Ken Mesch

  • Dave, really awesome of you to take the time to do this. Thanks!!

  • i am playing this song at a festival, if it wasn't for this, i would have neverr been able to do that. thank youu.

  • What is the strumming pattern? He says the chords and everything else but i cant figure out the patter.

  • cool

  • Just when I thought Lady A couldn't go any higher in my estimation, I find this. How cool to be able to say that Dave Haywood taught me how to play American Honey! Love you guys... come back to the UK soon!

  • i was tuning along with you in the video...and the last string snapped on me. I FAIL.

  • come someone please explain to me the fret order for the beginning riff? icant get that down!! great video though!!! I've only been playing for about a week and this is sososo helpful

  • @usmcgurlfriend i'm pretty sure it's 7th frett, 9th, 11th, 9th, 7th. not for sure though.

  • hey dave. thanks for taking the time.

i've been hooked on dadgad for a few weeks now.

would be great if you had time to explain the strumming a bit.

i've got it sounding ok but just not quite right.

    thanks again. :-))

  • I'm very, very new to learning how to play the guitar but this video really explained how to play the chords. I guess most songs aren't this complicated (i really don't know?) but I wish there were more videos like this to explain the songs.

  • Wow ....

really admire how u can write a song that sounds so good with weird tuning and ur own chords XD

    amazing !

  • wow, so much respect for someone who can take the time tohelp others and share like this. thanks so much dave! AWESOME teaching skills. had it down in like 1 hour.

  • Thanks man, awesome :-)

  • awesome

  • Absolutely the best instruction Ive ever seen. Thank you so much for taking your time and helping me out!

  • This was awesome! I almost have it down just after a few hours! Thanks Dave!!!!

  • i think its so great that a pro musician like yourself would take time out to teach his material to whoever wants to learn it. i salute you. i just learned "need you now" from your other video teaching it and it makes me like the song that much more, to be shown how to play it by the artist himself.

  • Can't believe! I had always wanted to learn how to play this song and thank you I learned it now!

  • can't add to much more than what was already said...just thanks for your time. You ROCK dude. You've taken me into an entirely different direction...bless you.

    (o:

  • thank you so much Dave! I would have never figured out how to play that with the right tuning haha!

  • GO DAVE! (:

  • Dave is great guy. Even they are much busy with their tours and album but still he takes the time for us..Thanks Dave...I am sure you are such a great human being

  • Dave, it’s been said many times on here but I had to say it once again, Thank You! NO ONE else does this. It means a lot to your fans, who not only love to listen to your music but want to play it too, for you to take your time and show us how. It’s such a great thing. It seems that maybe you "get it" just a little bit more than others in your position.

  • Dave, thanks for making these videos for those of us who only dream of what you are achieving. I look forward to hearing more from you and Lady A in the future.

  • Dave. Thank you so much. You don't realize how much this means to your fans. I usually just get on YouTube to find a cover someone made and then try to learn from there but for a big time band to make videos on how to play their songs is amazing! I love Lady A so much more than I already did! :) -3

And can you please help with the strumming patter for the riff? Please and thank youu. :)

  • for beginners who don't want to retune for one song, you can use

    verse....C...Am...F...Dm....C

    Chorus...F...C...Am...G

    Bridge....Am...G...F....Dm....C

not my version, just something I found that words good as a cheat online

Love the original version in this video though

  • @WoodCanada with a capo on the 1st fret. don't forget to mention that :p

  • This is seriously so amazing!!!!! I'm a diehard Lady A fan, and my band (Boothill Ridge) covers this song and I learned it forever ago by ear. But NOW seeing this, I'm excited because I was right for about 98% of it! Thanks a lot Dave, this is amazing!!!

  • This video just goes to show how dedicated Lady A is to their fans! I have a whole new level of respect for you guys!

  • Big time star showing his tricks and explaining it step by step? You sir, are a whole new level of awesome! I'm gonna buy the whole album cause of this - too cool.

  • You play it almost as good as the actual band... HAHA jk =) Appreciate it Dave. Love your guys' band you have.

  • dave ur great! Lady ANtebellum rocks!!!

  • i love this. i wish more artists would be so open to thier fans. thats so awesome. ♥

this makes me want to practice my guitar so much more. i'm just now getting tough fingers. lol. i'm definately taking the time to learn the real version.

  • Beautiful!!

  • Very simple yet complex tuning..... beautiful progression though. Riff is simple yet nice sound to it. And alot of covers ive heard do not do this tuning which is sad cause it takes alot away from the overall sound. Well done Dave. Keep producing this kinda music dont get away from it. God Bless

  • Thank you!!! :D

  • That really did help. I think this has been the video i've gotten the easiest. Thanks! (:

  • This is incredible, I've not seen a lot of artists do that ! You are just great for that ! Plus the song is incredibly good. I think everybody appreciates it and will appreciate the ones you'll do in the future !

  • There's a reason why dave here actually shows us how to play their songs.. obviously they must love what they do for what they do instead of jus for the money. Lady Antebellum is most definately the BEST band out there... EVER... And for many reason.. like how true they are to their fans.. for any musician to take time to do this... • Great vid thx for doing it! But question...when doing the opening riff, what strings get strummed? all of them< or just bottom three?
