Modern bible translations leave out the word "begotten". This means born and so implies other sons of God such as Luke 3:38 "Adam son of God" and 1Cor 15:45 Jesus the second Adam. How does this affect faith which comes by hearing (the word of God). In bible school we learn about types (precursors) of Christ. From Seth to Solomon(as far as I have studied) not one of these heroes was ever a firstborn or one and only son.
And John 3:16 being the crucial part of Hearing & Believing. But does believing John 3:16 enough to save you? After all, even Satan & the demons believe John 3:16. They believe Jesus is the Son of God and tremble, James 2:19.
But there's more. Read the 5 steps to salvation below. And genuinely, sincerely(no lip service, half-hearted confession, repentance & baptism), it must be done with your whole heart.
Baptism is not a work because we can never be good enough for God. We need His grace. What baptism IS is obedience. After all, why would you not want to obey God and show your love for Him by doing what Jesus commanded and said was necessary? IF you truly want to please Him and be saved. Do u? 2 Cor 5:9

2. Believe
3. Confess your sins to God
4. Repent or turn away from those sins, change your way of living.
5. Baptism
