that's pretty cool seeing that from the oustide view in augusta. i used to nonrev into augusta from boston all the time and was the only one on the plane more often than not. ive got a video of us landing on that same runway during winter.
We LOVE empty legs, for just that reason. With passengers we have to be nice to plane...rotate gently, climb at 160, smooth level off, etc. Empty...flaps 17, max static runup, drop the brakes, pull hard and climb at Venr (114-123), gives about 4-5k fpm up at a 20-27 degree nose up angle. We can hit 16k feet before we cross 10 DME from the airport. Quick climbs are fun! Now if you have 8k foot runways to play with, ever do multiple landings on one approach (and bouncing doesn't count :))?
Bouncing COUNTING... oh yeah. NOT counting, no... wish I could but it's a class C airport, relatively heavy airline and corporate traffic so I don't play around too much. But, two of the training fields have north-south-east-west runways, so we'll shorten the patterns up, which is always fun. When you take off from 9, turn left once for left base 18, etc, etc... lots more landings in less time - with avgas about $90 a pint it all helps :)
Oh absolutely! Even fully loaded, this thing is over powered. We're rarely fully loaded, so you get a good ab work out when you push the power up. At max gross we weight 17,120lbs. Our engines EACH make 1350eSHP. We usually work in the 14,000-16,500 lb range, so that gives us a really good thrust:weight ratio...MUCH better than the Slaab or small Dashes! :)
Oh hell yeah! Jeez, those things look like so much fun to fly!
I love that feeling. Lots of times (espically when I'm flying solo) I make soft field takeoffs just for the heck of it. Who cares if the runways are 8,000 feet long? :)

No kidding? We may well have been on a flight together. I'd love to see the video of the landing!

Yup. We're down to five left on the line (from 11 when I was hired). October is the official stop-date for our 1900 flying...it's the end of an era.

so are you flying the saab or going to newark to fly the dash-8?

5k fpm climbs... that's awesome!! Giving those jets a run for their money?

Great as always!
Never had the chance to fly on a 1900... do you get that pushed-back-in-your-seat feeling on takeoff like Saabs and other T-props give you?
