don't mean to disrespect anyone, especially not the almighty paul weller, but the song is actually about the turmoil of unrequited love, and a realisation of being unable to embrace love, but its so haunting and consumes you!in saying that whilst most people take it to be a love song, and understandably so, it isn't but it is testimony to paul wellers ability to own a song and make it purely his.have heard many covers of it but they will never sound right because only weller can deliver this x
