You can tell he misses being in school and seeing his friends. He's living his dream, but he lost something in the exchange--the last year and a half of high school with his friends, just being a normal teen. Nothing normal about his life now.
I think David feels it's worth it, but he's sad he can't be with his friends and go to school and seminary like he did before Idol.
