Rudeboys were not skinheads, only played a VERy small part in the culture.. hanging out and going to some of the same shows. Many skinheads didnt listen to reggae or ska, and listen to brit and american rock music.. like many mods also. the skinhead culture wasnt defined by music.. like many subcultures are/were. That i where young ppl get so confused.
They have hair. Isnt "skinhead" a skinned head culture? Explain it to me. I know that the skinheads sinse 69 lisent to reggae, ska and rockstady. Why is it skinhead reggae and not just reggae?
The characteristic defining early reggae from rock steady is the "bubbling" organ, a percussive style of playing that brought to closer light the eighth-note subdivision within the groove. The guitar "skanks" on the second and fourth note of the bar were more frequently doubled up in recording studios using electronic tape echo effects, thus complementing the double-time feel of the organ bubble.
They also did songs for the skinheads in England and West Indes. Original cut of this was rocksteady, this version takes it to a whole nother level. Skinhead Moonstomp, Moonhop in London, Skinhead a Bash Them, Skinhead Revolt, just to name a few of the properly named "Skinhead" tunes.
I taught skinheads existed only in UK at that time. Is there a big skinhead culture in Jamaica? Or the reason why its called skinhead reggae is because skinheads like it? (just like skate-punk, because skaters like it)
In Jamaica they were called Rude Boys. In the UK, they took some of the traits from mods, and made it their own. Short hair, boots and braces because they're working class but still liked to dress nice, and they loved the reggae. There were some black skinheads at the time in the West Indes.
I already knew about the skinhead culture, and Ive heard about the rude boys in Jamaica(the Jamaican mafia). I was searching the rude boys on the web, and i found that they was politically active, is this true? What are theirs political doctrine?
The song is called Easy Come Easy Go and was released on Beverly's records as a 7", with Only A Smile Instrumental by Lynn Taitt on the B side, the film this is taken from was by Horace Ove and is from (I think) 1970 at a big and well recalled Wembly Reggae festival, launching Skinhead Reggae...
