  • hahaha why so pathetic :s

  • simple...because they like it.. sometimes bellydancers use something like that and sometimes not..

  • question....why using sticks/canes??

  • XD w00t

  • ooh i like the cane dancing!!at least she tried.

  • this is quite a common saaidi dance tableau with the woman dancing with one or two guys. It varies, sometimes its just the guys on their own. The sticks or canes vary too and sometimes the men use a much heavier stick and do a dance which has martial arts/fighting steps to them, this is called tahtib. when the woman dances with a lighter, cane, often decorated, it is usually called raqs assaya.

    Ruth

  • oooh that's cool!!

  • its just a shame that her costume looks like a traffic accident in a neon paint factory!:)

  • Ain't that the truth.

  • This is the real mccoy done by the real people. wonderful!

  • it's very beatifull how the men dance....

  • This isn't bellydancing...this is called saadii cane dancing, which is a dance that is typically performed in Upper Egypt, and is usually done by guys. The woman in the middle is attempting also to dance with a cane, although she's not really doing a good job. And the name of the song is 3amelna il 3alayna by Hakeem, although someone else is singing it in the clip.

  • it's also called Raqs sharqi... but that does not make it "not belly dancing:.

  • !!! How is she fat! i fink this is fantastic!! i love bellydancing! its brilliant! shes a wonderful, beautiful woman!

  • What are the name of the songs on this video?

  • Before this video, I thought that belly dancing was exclusive to women.

  • this is not a belly dancing! Even I can do it better. And she's sooooo FAT!

  • It's most certainly bellydance. The men are performing Tahtib, the stick dance, which is from a martial art. The woman is performing Raks Assaya--the cane dance--which makes fun of the mens' tahtib.

  • I am also increasingly both amazed and dismayed at some people's ideas of "fat." She's a perfectly healthy looking, average-sized woman with curves everywhhere it is *normal* and expected for a healthy woman to have them.

  • indeed!

  • a lot of it looks like syrian/lebanese dabke... and egyptian saidi raqs assayah. beautiful though. what tahtib??

  • man dont go close

  • They look like two guys from Reda Troupe(from cairo)! I could bet they´re just visiting Dubai with the group. Great!

  • ...Sorry I was wrong with that, they are some other people, but good dancers anyway!!

  • Well for all the people who dont know it, this is a part of bellydancing, the so call Dance with the Stick is Called "SAIDI", and trust me is fantastic x

  • This aint belly dancing.

  • horrible

  • This is very traditional Egyptian saidi dance, and very masculinen, originates from tahtib = stick "fighting"

    very good artists! habibi!!!

  • someone needs to learn colour co-ordination

  • Oh that looks like tons of fun. I don't get to see the males dance as much; I also love the bright colored costuming. It grabs ones attention very well.

  • that was AMAZING!!!!

  • cool stuff... but man i didn't like those costumes.

  • omfg... was that "gurl" a gay guy wit boobs?? or just a freak'n SHEMALE?? cuz IT'S body had a shape like a gurl... but the face is hella like a man... eeeeeeew

  • Kira- notice how the people who say it's not belly dance do not qualify their statements by using accurate termonology, articulated speech and concrete examples?

So if someone is saying, "dats not belly dance u know" you can pretty much ignore their comments.

  • cool how do they move the stiks like that kool

  • That was traditional but u can't really call it a belly dance..Anyway this was good..

  • Her is another interesting post on the major building and modernization in Dubai.

    http://www.menareport.com/en/business/199715

The ground floor also contains a day-care centre where parents working in the building can leave their children all day and can check on them from time to time. To help the ladies working in the building to relax, a nail bar is also integrated in the ground floor. The Binary also has a car spa where cars can be washed, fixed or polished.

  • Could not find the right link I read from but here is one close on the building and marketing schemes.

    http://www.menareport.com/en/business/199475

  • Another interesting fact, has anyone noticed who the male dancer starts out yawning. This is a stage technique seen in Middle Eastern Dance. Clever way of having the audience think you are tired and bored, or this is nothing spectacular, then putting on a spectular proformance afterwards. There is alot of acting involved in this artfrom.

  • This 100% authentic egyptian dancing

  • Wow...her outfit sure captures your eyes...whether you want it to or not :S

  • The guys dance better than the woman in dis video:) She is not doing proper belly dancing although it looks like it! she isnt doing it very professionally. But truth is overall i didnt like da way she danced but i like da way the guys did. I can imagine it now if they had a turkish belly dancer called Didem in the middle doing her moves and both men danced around her it would look much more better and professional than this!

  • Actually, she is doing proper belly dancing. There are many different styles of what Americans coined "Belly" dancing (term originated in the US when women first saw Little Egypt and thought the dance involved more of the belly than it actually does). Different parts of the world have different styles and different musics have different styles.

  • Awesome Taktib!!!!

    Father to the Raks Assaya!

  • It's fantastic to see their moves, it realy looks nice, but i'm sorry i can't call it bellydance. But i like the dance :)

  • great authentic dancing, thanks for sharing!

  • wow ok - you obviously dont know anything about bellydancing if you say this isn't it....come on! go do a little research please...

  • no ebrOe is right, look at some of the other videos. this really isn't it, she's not even focusing on the belly..

  • OK pllleeeaaasseeee go do some homework!!....this is a certain style of bellydance and bellydance does not mean that you have to focus your dance entirely on the Belly!!!! THIS IS CALLED SAIDII STYLE!!!! its done with the assaya (cane), the dance the men are doing is called Thatiib.....All of this style comes from upper Egypt, it is a country-side dance, it is not traditionally done in the "Cabaret" setting. That might be why you do not understand it....

  • LOL, they have watched to much MTV or flashy Turkish fused with modern dance and think they know it all. NOTICE, all these comments are made by ametures and all the experienced dancers are saying it is great. I think it is repulsive how they focus on the woman, who does not even come out till one min into the video and slam her - IS THIS AN INSECURITY ISSUE - I have to find a woman to put down. All you have done is promote your ignorance. The woman is doing this dance beautifully and correctly.

  • What wonderful authentic dancing! Those poor people look so squished in that little tiny space. Looked like they had some really great moves that would have really been something in a bigger area. Thanks for posting this! It's great to see men dancing with the canes!

  • nice moves..

  • It's great to read comments from people who actually know something about oriental/belly dance. I wish I could see more of raks assaya in the US.

  • Shakira's hip hop dancing with Middle Eastern flavor have bred a clan of misinformed definitions of belly dance. Tahtib and Raks Assaya ARE indeed but a small portion of the REAL thing. Shakira can certainly dance well, but if you base your definitions of "belly dance" on her, you are poorly mistaken. Great video - Thanks for sharing!

  • AWESOME!!! One of the best cane dances I have seen. I want this video so bad. Anyone know where I can get it. BTW, ignore the comments from bablysm, any real belly dancer would recognize this as Saiidi and recognize that woman in this video is performing shoulder shimmies and hip drop kicks which are bellydance movements associated with this form of dance.

  • yeah whatever i'm 15yrs old and however old u are. u prolly wouldn't say I am a belly dancer but I am. And just like I said before when I clicked on this video I wanted to see belly rolls not shimmies and so forth. put that in your head, and keep it there.

  • Dubai I want to go there.

  • sweet im from dubai

  • They are performing a cane dance. Yup, this is part of belly dancing too. Belly dancing is not all just women shaking their tush ya know.

  • That's a nice cane dance!

  • What an awesome video. I really love the choreography change between styles after the tahtib when the female cane dancer comes in. The interaction is great! Must have been a cool show.

  • i like it! nice!!

  • Great video. It's nice to see something other than teenage girls gyrating around saying they are belly dancers on Utube. Those guys are awesome.

  • I like it but i don't really see ani bely dancing. But still it's awsome!!

  • This is authentic raks sharki (belly dancing)...belly dancing isn't always women shaking it in skimpy outfits, there are many different styles any many include men dancers.

  • What your watching is male cane/stick dancing. And yes, this is considered belly dancing too.

  • i know what belly dancing is...ima belly dancer myself....i do all types but what i was saying is that belly dancing is considers moving your hips and belly, i know what she was doing i was jsut saying that i didn't see ani belly movements...like i said it's still awsome

  • I'm surprised that a bellydancer wouldn't recognize shoulder shimmies, hip shimmies, hip circles, hip bumps, hip drops, hip twists and undulations. They're all there.

  • IIII noooo. I was just saying in this video i wanted to see actually belly rotations thats all i am saying.

  • Please do not claim to be a belly dancer and do all types when it is obvious you do not know what you are talking about. This is as authentic as you can get performed by authentic dancers. It is called Saiidi and yes she is performing authentic belly dance movements. They are called shoulder shimmies, hip drop kicks, and arabic 4's. I can not imagine what all types you know.

  • Amen, Kirabellydancer! I just wish she had worn a Sa'idi dress instead of the somewhat cheesy bedlah. But it's a great clip!

  • I do not know if they wear Sa'idi dresses in Dubai. I have a good book, it is on loan, for the World of Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, that tells of this Folkloric Dance of Dubai, which is believed to have been brought by traders from Egypt to Dubai. It would be interesting to find out if any of the women in Dubai wear Sa'idi dresses while performing it or if this is the standard dress for the dance.

  • KBD, it would be great to know more about the actual folkloric dances of Dubai. Thanks for mentioning the book; just found a copy online. This looks like good ol' Sa'idi dance to me, especially with the men in typical Sa'idi garb (atypical in Dubai) -- that's why I mentioned the beledi dress. But there could be other circumstances, like maybe the audiences in Dubai *only* like two-piece costumes. Let's go there on a field trip and find out!! ;-)

  • LOl, let's go. Have you seen the media on what is happening in Dubai. They are building so many high class hotels and buildings. The government is making it London/New York City of the Gulf states. I read they have lifted alot of resrictions on woman and trying to bring it up to modern times along with high tech and plan to make it the major oil trade center for the Middle East. Sounds like a place I would like to visit in the future.

  • Oh, hun.... you really need to expand your horizons....

  • hehe
