For fuck sakes this is badass! I'm getting back into computer gaming but am far behind. This is Virtual Battlespace 2 ... can you even buy this yet? Or is it just a project from Arma 2? I'm so confused.
@pen24 Original OFP was based off of VBS 1, less depth but improved elsewhere. Same with ArmA and ArmA 2, based off of VBS 2: VBS is an official military training sim, same game but MUCH higher price (makes it look good), the arma series is the exact same engine with a few features disabled but much better graphics - bear in mind, with mods like ACE and ACRE, you can actually turn ArmA 2 into something easily as in-depth as VBS 2, only much better looking, sounding and just more fun in general.

Leaning is in all of the games btw... even the AI do it. ArmA 3 will supposedly have render to texture; shooting in vehicles is possible via a script but is not well publicised. Hopefully we'll see that in ArmA 3, regardless of what they remove, each game still pushes PCs further than anything else.

There are better 3d editors available as mods, dont use the in-game one. I don't know what you mean about the graphics, they are excellent and highly detailed, and make my overclocked 5870 cry on max.
@pen24 you can buy it, But its quite expensive as it comes with many factions 3d mission editor and some other features arma 2 does not have. Go search J cove or J cove lite in google sign up at the site and you may download the UK and US Lite versions. they are basically arma 1 with more maps, few missions and no online play unless you download tungle. There are a few user missions for download on the J cove forums. you can also make your own.

I would only be allowed to get the private edition which has Afghani, Iragi, and African civs/angry civs, militia and insurgents the Africans have an army and the Iraqis have police. as for the conventional forces you get Aussies, Brits, Kiwis, and a generic army. Canadians were on the list at one point put aren't any more as they don't use it anymore.

It's known for years that console games are standing at DX9 and actually slowing down game development graphicwise compared to the PC that is already on DX11. You know you only get the leftovers they don't put in PCs because they don't fit the standards ;) ( jk in case you feel offended )

On the computers, graphics are far more advanced ! Consoles are even slowing progression on the graphics since have they such a lack of power compared to PCs. @ssayegh54 there's always been a tug of war between consoles and pcs. consoles pull ahead and the mainstream computers catch up and subsequently take the lead, then the consoles (with a bigger commercial base) pulls ahead of the mainstream again. It's the way of life in gaming.

I work for a company that utilizes this for the Army. It is an awesome program. But the best thing about it is that it trains soldiers for what will could happen in the event of an IED, SVBIED, VBIED, and much much more. This program will end up saving soldiers lives in the long run. I think that if a program will save lives then the more we should utilize it.
@KekkeiGenkai3 I played vbs 2 jcove lite and you know the graphic was ok, the sound wasnt very good compared to youtube war videos and why should I spent 450 euro when I cant even do things like deploy bipod or adjust scopes of sniper rifles like windage and range? Im sure its good for training but there somethings missing like I mentioned.

that makes no sense. also, it's not a game. recreation and training don't go together. do you think actually joining basic combat training is recreational? arma is game, this isn't. if it were a game, it wouldn't be $2k. if games weren't meant for the user's pleasure, they wouldn't buy them.
either pay 2k, get usenet(which costs money) because i've seen some usenet torrents that are vbs 2, or download vbs 2 jcove lite which is free but only includes british troops, and even yet is stripped down of the full capabilities of even the non-lite jcove version. it's still fun though. i'm working on getting usenet so i can get the full version.
a WAR GAME is a game like cod or bf, and they are called fps's not WAR GAMES. also, how would someone be a douche if they aren't having a good time during their 9 weeks of basic training. so you would like basic? because you'd feel pretty stupid if you didn't really like it. does that make you a douche? no, it means military enrollment is not your thing.
The price tag that comes with VBS2 is enough to make you go buy ArmA 2. This is a training program ArmA 2 is a game, still realistic but I feel better due to the awesome community...
I wouldnt say my PC sucks, I got high FPS on chernarus (expect large towns).
from 45 to 70 in countryside and villages, 40-25 in cities. We ALL Know ArmA has very complex AI, and missions with lots of AI can cause FPS to drop alot and on top of that script-fests added cause even more lag, now put that into multiplayer and avot, FPS 25.
So dont say my PC sucks, I can play RF:G, Crysis FarCry2 all those "demanding" and Very nice looking games with high settings. :P
If you want this game, then get ARMA2, if you can resist playing on the Berzerk servers and instead play on the serious ones (E.g. No respawn) then go ahead and get VBS2.
VBS2 is what they use in military. Its the same as ARMA 2, not sure.
I dont think they use this on simulators like the F35 simulators you see for training.
I dont know, might be same program and graphics, I highly doubt it.

that makes no sense. also, it's not a game. recreation and training don't go together. do you think actually joining basic combat training is recreational? arma is game, this isn't. if it were a game, it wouldn't be $2k. if games weren't meant for the user's pleasure, they wouldn't buy them.

either pay 2k, get usenet(which costs money) because i've seen some usenet torrents that are vbs 2, or download vbs 2 jcove lite which is free but only includes british troops, and even yet is stripped down of the full capabilities of even the non-lite jcove version. it's still fun though. i'm working on getting usenet so i can get the full version.

a WAR GAME is a game like cod or bf, and they are called fps's not WAR GAMES. also, how would someone be a douche if they aren't having a good time during their 9 weeks of basic training. so you would like basic? because you'd feel pretty stupid if you didn't really like it. does that make you a douche? no, it means military enrollment is not your thing.

the "commercial version" is actually ArmA; a stripped down version of this simulator.
Surprisingly though, they DO sell this sim to those who are willing to spend a large wad of cash on it...

The price tag that comes with VBS2 is enough to make you go buy ArmA 2. This is a training program ArmA 2 is a game, still realistic but I feel better due to the awesome community...

I wouldnt say my PC sucks, I got high FPS on chernarus (expect large towns).
from 45 to 70 in countryside and villages, 40-25 in cities. We ALL Know ArmA has very complex AI, and missions with lots of AI can cause FPS to drop alot and on top of that script-fests added cause even more lag, now put that into multiplayer and avot, FPS 25.
So dont say my PC sucks, I can play RF:G, Crysis FarCry2 all those "demanding" and Very nice looking games with high settings. :P

If you want this game, then get ARMA2, if you can resist playing on the Berzerk servers and instead play on the serious ones (E.g. No respawn) then go ahead and get VBS2.
