For me, if I was buying a Land Cruiser, I'd probably go for a petrol straight six, a normally aspirated whether it's a four or six cylinder version diesel or a late 100 series turbo diesel with the 1HD-FTE.
God i love the Fj40 i will modify a 1984 modle the worest mistake i have ever made that i sold my land crouiser 60 serise it was 1985 modle.. i stell regrd it up to the date.
@ihaveairlockers I wish you wouldn't gloat so much.... We don't even have the LC Trooper! But we did have the 1HD-FTE in the 100, in the IFS version, VX only. We are still driving the 76-wagon with the 1HZ... it's a bit of a dog. And it's not poor fuel quality that prevents us having the V8 diesel, because we get in in the 200, but also VX version only. Best wishes from SAfrica.
I love my fj-62 i can sit 5 people pretty comfortably, and still go through the same terrain that the bj40 goes through. Also something that ypu just can't do in the bj40 is put down the back seats and have a place to lay down after a long day a 4x ing
i never really liked these cars but now i am changing my mind along with defenders series lanies and rangies these land criusers look awsome apart from the 2007 one my fav is the bj40 model
@mduran17 it's sooo sad the US doesn't have the 70 series. We do have a luxury Prado called the Lexus GX, and have the Land Cruiser petrol V8s and the luxury version, the Lexus LX50.
'I think 80 series Land cruisers are the best looking and SUV character defining designs ever. In all the SUV universe.

The Prado came out well before 1995, and the first of the 100 series started to appear in 1998, not 2001.

Fascinating history. I prefer the classic Land Cruiser for their utility over the more luxurious SUVs.

I feel sorry for the poor beggers from Africa who can't have the twin turbo V8 Diesel landcruisers due to poor fuel quality.
Oh well.
And it's sad Africa never got the 1HD-FTE engine in the 100 series...Oh well, you should move to Australia ( the land of all good 4x4 goodies )
