this is a beautifully sung romantic sounding song. If you listen to the words tho it sounds more like a to do list. Get out while you can and let him water his own plants
@brendabate Better late than never. Funny how time goes by and the way you think and see things change hey!. Dr Hook in my opinion are one of the greatest romantic groups of all time. Love them with a passion.
@mrtogster oh please COUNT me in - I stumbled upon them in 1973, when I was 16 and wanted to reel in a boy I was mad about. Asked him what music he liked voluntered to make him a tape and he said dr.Hook, went and bought the records available.Boy later confessed he hated Hook. The boy lasted 7 yrs. the HOOK is with me forever! and silverstein - adore him all he has written - absolutely all. (see recommandation)) (wonder what kids do nowadays with downloads being possible?)
@mitzi7416 get a life you feminist freak. you are so caught up in your feminista mantra you cant even enjoy a good song. Hope you like being single cause you will be for a long time with that attitude
@mitzi7416 Does the nameSilverstein ring a bell? If it not you're missing out! Take it from a gal who hates housework, and loves EVERYTHING by uncle Shelby. If you think this painfully romantic song is sexist - try to listen to "I'll call that true love" - you'll be going through the roof "exerpt Ever' mornin' won't you you wake up early cook me great big T-bone steak Serve it to me in bed go on the street and hustle bring me back all the money you make" -it's called humour

Just one of so many absolutely brilliant tracks from a band who, in my opinion, never got the true recognition they deserved. I will never, ever get tired of listening to their many albums I have in my collection and I make no apologies for it
Don’t send Dennis Locorriere fan mail. I did, and his answer was very rude. Made me want to cry to realize that the spirit of the person didn’t match the lovely voice. I can only guess that the reason he lives in the U.K. is because he has insulted the whole North American continent. It is a pity; with his talent, he should be on top of the charts. But now you know the rest of the story. My esteem for the rest of the band went up about 100 notches, since they had to tolerate him for 15 years.
Well, maybe he was high when replying. I dunno. But he's old now, isn't he? Maybe he has dementia. Or, maybe he's just an arsehole. Anyway, Ray liked him before, obviously, so he can't have always been awful.
According to Dennis, he and Ray aren't on speaking terms these days. Sad, they looked like they were having fun in those old videos. But it WAS their job to entertain. And entertain, they DID. I love their music, none the less.
@gttdkt Unfortunately, some of the artists think they are better than us because they have a talent like this; but he is still only human like the rest of us.
@gttdkt thats really sad because i met dennis after a gig in liverpool and he was great. he signed an old dr hook LP for my mum, posed for pictures with us and shook our hands, he made time for eberybody..
@thehoff1982 - I'm with you. My wife and I met him after a gig in Skegness (of all places) - he posed for pictures - was very charming and seemed quite genuine - and all that after what must be the most entertaining live performance you could imagine - he was brilliant a real showman. Maybe you just rubbed him up the wrong way "gttdkt".
Obviously I did that. I didn't mean to. I apologized. From reading some of his remarks on his web page, it seems he is quite defensive about his Dr. Hooks days. So, something set him off. But I didn't say anything offensive. I love his voice and his talent. Not to minimize that.
This song evokes so many memories and brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I am only 47 but have asked for this song to be played at my funeral.
@Dippyjean if this is played at your funeral that would mean you were dead - why would you care about being fed or your shirt being ironed? just asking . . . .
From this song, to Sylvia's Mother, to Years From Now, to Wonderful Soup Stone, to You Ain't Got The Right, and so many others, Is Dr. Hook one of the most underrated groups of all time? Who is with me?
@99pnkflyd99 I am - and I can't vote - for some reason - denmark is an itsy bitsy small country, but here they were really big - not many that didn't know dr. hook in 70+80 ties - they have played here numerous times. Even in my hometown, which is a small town.LOL - they showed up 2 hrs late, and were so high (1973 what can I say) they could hardly play, but what they did play - was wonderful. I think of the night with fondness - I thought they were good. Some were pissed off goes without saying
@99pnkflyd99 I'm with you, fantastic group, can you tell me which album I got stoned and I missed it is on. I know it was their 1st (think it was their first or one before the broke up and got back together)
@99pnkflyd99 Brilliant,,But I would say the Hollies.
The Rolling Stoners would have to be BY FAR THEE most over rated band of all time,Those guys should never have made it to the radio,,whiny talentless crap
@MrSteveUtah despite the fact i like -Paint It Black, Mother's Little Helper, 19th Nervous Breakdown and Angie, considering the release dates of these songs and the amount of material they have put out, I may have to agree as to them being the most overrated
Absolutely yes!!! Sounds for all occasions, lots of feeling in the songs, lots of songs that can make you cry and songs that can make you smile aswell. Brilliant!!
Dominicwebb, what a wonderful story and im so sorry, you have a heart and i felt sad when i read your comment, such is life, the only sure thing in this life is we have to die. Keep going, thats what she would want.
@greenirisheyes1967 Dominicwebb, what a wonderful story and im so sorry, you have a heart and i felt sad when i read your comment, such is life, the only sure thing in this life is we have to die. Keep going, thats what she would want.
Thirty years ago I was on the bones of my behind, no life left and I went in a pub and this was on the juke box. I turned round and met the new love of my life - and I never looked back. Lynn died three years ago. The music gave us a new life. Thank you. I`ll never forget that night.
Ah dear, nostalia aint what it used to be. I am hearing all these great hook songs every time I look at my oldest daughter. I helped supervise a soccer trip to Holland by bus for her team when she was fourteen. I brought along my Dr Hook tape and the kids all loved singing along to it especially ' Everybody's makin it big "
Brilliant!!! Reminds me of watering the plants of the Imperial Hotel in the Isle of Man every morning after breakfast! What a fantastic summer of '93!!!
Eternally wonderful! Thank you Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, wonderful voices, wonderful as well as funny songs, Rest in Peace Billy Frances,et all who went before him, I know Heaven is rocking on! Much love and Angel hugs to all
i love all there songs and yes i love sylvia ;mother even though my name is sylvia my mum used to introduce herself as sylvias mother used to make me cringe now i laugh bring back good songs xxx

@99pnkflyd99 Brilliant,,But I would say the Hollies.

@99pnkflyd99 I'm with you. Such appealing, plaintive vocals ... and extremely comical, when called for!
