i think this song is about conflict in any type of loving relationship, perhaps even about, power , control and codependency as it talks about placing blame,,and leaving a bad taste in your mouth etc. I am not surprised he wrote this for his father. I know my son and I have conflict and it usually boils down to my shortcomings as a person and a parent and I feel his inability to forgive me or accept me for who I am,,human and with flaws and not god.
