Right now US funds for the "War On Terror" are being used by the Pakistan military to abuse their own people (so to say "WE ARE PUTTING THE MONEY TO USE"). In Colombia the same is being done with "War on Drugs" fund.

Just a waste of funds and helps elevate violence.

f: Yea Cannabis has many uses and there hasn't been one recorded death in like 5,000 years so it should be legalized completely. Coke should be decriminalized and or maybe regulated. Meth is horrible and yea, you're right, law enforcement should invest into stopping its manufacture and distribution!

While I do agree entirely that the pot cannabis scare is blown WAY out of proportion, and weed should be decriminalized, I have to say still that just because It hasn't killed anyone doesn't mean there are not significant health affects.

A friend of mine has developing emphysema right now. Doesn't smoke tobacco, only weed.

It also does have, for some people, a significant risk of emotional dependency. This cannot be underestimated.

f: There could be many factors in which is causing your friend's emphysema: heredity, *past* tobacco use, second hand smoke, work environment(s), rollin paper etc...We know that when tobacco is used as directed it causes sickness and death and alcohol abuse kills many...they're both legal. Cannabis' other uses: textiles, rope, paper, construction, food, fuel etc.

1. It is definitely the pot. Smoke causes problems. Less so than tobacco. But it still poses a health risk because your inhaling smoke into your lungs. He Never smoked tobacco. never worked around chemicals.

2. I know. I said cannabis should be decriminalized. I just think people that are for the decriminalization of it should know that there are health risks. Its like alcohol, the people that understand its risks are usually less likely to succumb to them.

It could also be genetic or from second hand smoke i.e. bars/pubs, friends/family, co-workers and even neighbors. I never heard of cannabis causing any documented health problems except maybe over eating. I have also heard it can act as a blocker of cancerous cells in the lungs.

Emphysema is not a genetic disorder. Also, hes 20, hes never been to a pub/bar. AND we live in Seattle, where its ILLEGAL to smoke inside bar, or pretty much anywhere else public for that matter.

Youv never heard of a documented case because its not significantly detrimental or because pot smoking is illegal making problems blamed on something else or underreported.

Anything can be genetic as in having a predisposition to getting cancer or diabetes and the same could be true for emphysema. I'm from Portland and I know that the smoking ban in Washington is only about 5 years old. I went to Vancouver and folks were actually smoking in Denny's...In 5, 000 years no dieses or deaths caused by Cannabis.

Well, yes you can have a genetic predisposition. But its still not going to randomly appear. something has to cause it. And my friend is only 20, so the smoking ban has been in place for a decent length of time for us. Also, Vancouver is A LOT different than Suburban Seattle. People bitch at you if your smoking 200ft away from them and they can smell it.

If it's genetic it's only random if you get the sequence. Once someone does, it'll manifest as programmed or even faster if encouraged. Some things don't appear until 20's, 30's or even later. Portland is pretty liberal too and as you know, Vancouver is a hop-skip away. Anyway, sorry for your friend's condition but you can haven't medically proven it's from smoking cannabis alone or at all.
