  • God I miss the 90's. Life seemed so much more innocent back then.

  • OMG, Nostalgia!

  • anyone knows who did the this tune??? Was it made specifically for the sitcom??? REALLY LOVELY

  • I was humming this to myself yesterday and I knew it was a theme but wasn't sure from what. It's weird how memories that haven't been used for years and years suddenly come back to you.

  • ..."waddle i do?"...

  • This was briefly adapted in the U.S. as "STAND BY YOUR MAN" (co-starring Melissa Gilbert-Brinkman and Rosie O'Donnell) for the Fox network in 1992.

  • Birds of a Feather was a daytime sitcom that was on BBC1 in the afternoons in the 90s & was quite funny back in the day too cos this show & Keeping Up Appearence were two 90s sitcoms that were on during the day which weren't that bad either. Sharon & Tracy act like real siblings too & Doreen the old slapper in it is like Rose out off the other sitcom too.

  • love the violin

  • Still a quality tune... :)

  • Looks like a million years ago that I've watched this series. Good memories of it.

  • Brings back memories of visiting my dad.

We used to sit and watch most programmes on BBC1 before I went home after visiting for the day on Sunday.

  • who recorded that version of What'll I Do?

  • the programme was absolute shite. total bollocks.

  • I love the contrast of this being a comedy and the ridiculously depressing theme.

  • Remember this long ago when I was 10 or something, not sure why I searched for it, just always remember the titles, nostalgia of better times I guess.

  • Me and My sister used to watch this all the time, we was only about 5years old at the time but we loved it! Still do :)

  • @TheRayRayRawr Same here, used to watch it with Mum :)

  • fuuuuuuu- this theme reminds me of bedtime >_<

  • Have you seen how thin Pauline Quirke's got now? I barely recognised her!

  • I used to grimace at my parents when this show came on TV. Although I always sat through each episode waiting for the 'hilarious' appearance of Dorian, or when one of the jailbird husbands appeared. Now, looking back, (it's the old hindsight thing) I can clearly see the perspective and context. I hated Linda Robson. As a teenage boy I found Pauline Quirke the sexy one and could never understand why Linda was supposed to be the 'catch'!

  • The series was briefly "Americanized" by Fox as "STAND BY YOUR MAN" (co-starring Rosie O'Donnell and Melissa Gilbert) in 1992.

  • thumbs up if you're still listening to this in 2011

  • if anyone has a guitar tab chart for this, i will cover it... and t'will be awesome :D

  • thats a tough one what role will she play. let me guess?????.

  • the show is soon to be adapted for the stage featuring the original cast

  • ah you guys really have an awesome life, sitting on YouTube commenting on videos of people you hate. Let me guess, the dole is keeping your internet going?

In the meantime, this show really reminds me of my childhood. Awesome show, it's all about the connection.

  • I'm sure that by virtue of their god-like male beauty these guys are entitled to make such utterly charming comments.

  • I used to watch this show with my mother when I was 7 and she loved it. She passed away last year and I miss her so much, what'll I do...

  • think carlton got it bang on. the programme was shite, robson and quirke are 2 dog ugly useless talentless actresses. pair of whores if you believe the rumours.

  • I bet you guys all married fat ugly cockney slappers you small willied morons, jealousy is a curse..

  • bit harsh there carlton754, wonder what your claim to fame is! I think she's a great actress..you guys sound dirty on the world because you probably all ended up with ugly cockney slags...or is it the small penis syndrome?

  • best theme tune ever

  • linda robson in harvey moon, she played a cockney scrubber, in birds of a feather, she played a cockney scrubber. tarrintino wanted her in a film about gang life in south LA, she would have played a cockney scrubber. think cameron wanted her to act in the film titanic, she was going to play a cockney scrubber. and i think she is going to star in last of the summer wine, where she plays a cockney scrubber. glad the thick cow never got typecast. one sad old slapper

  • @carlton754 soon she is to play in a stage version of `birds of a feather` (i`m not sure what part she will play)

  • ROBSON AND QUIRKE MUST BE THE 2 UGLIEST CUNTS EVER ON TELLY

  • bang on. those 3 are the biggest fucking slags ever. dirty old scrubbers

  • you are right there. 3 thick old ugly slappers. them 3 would fuck anything ha ha. robson looks like a old dog

  • a programme about, 3 tired, old, fat sad, ugly, fucking slags. talentless cows should never have been made, fucking crap. just like those 3 ugly slappers.

  • The theme song is very good for this series.

  • Preferred this opening theme and version to the original, when it was sang by the girls.

  • lol at the end brightens it up a bit

  • I think it's actually Linda and Caroline singing the theme tune here.

  • This is quite possibly the most depressing comments section in the history of youtube.

    Damm.

    This song is seriously depressing.

  • @Kozzy06 haha agreed mate

  • Jesus christ.

  • Birds of a Feather - October 1989 to December 1998 (1980's to 1990's)

  • anyone know where I can find this, whats it called? (what'll I do) sung by?

  • What a depressing comments section. :(

  • where did the episodes go and why? :( i mean on Youtube

  • is it just me or do this remind them of when they were just a kid and there mum used to watch this lol

  • @paulgregs2006 i used to loooove this show when i was little mum and i used to watch it without fail, the song used to make me cry not sure why though

  • AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • What'll i do with only dreams of you that won't come true? What'll i do?

    I'm CJCartoons...

I dream about my mum almost every night and it really upsets me that she's gone but she was the only person who could make me feel better.. So dreaming about her knowing she's dead, waking up and not having her to turn to.. Kinda bites you in the ass....

  • @RisingDampChamp She'll always be alive in you and through you her dreams may still yet be.

  • @RisingDampChamp I hope in time you will be able to move on with your life and I don't mean by forgetting your mum or putting memories of your mum to one side. Because you will always be reminded of your mother through personal things, places and events. But hopefully it will be more easier over time, there is an saying time is a great healer.Anyways take care and look after yourself.

  • @RisingDampChamp I really feel for you. I just hope it gets better, and perhaps you find someone you can turn to.

  • Bring back Birds of a Feather! With all the dire programming on TV nowadays it would be great to see this back for a new run.

  • Makes me cry :(

  • wobble eye doooooooooooo

  • @MeBenHalpin yes I remember that episode I loved Dorian Green she was your typical Essex housewife I loved the house they lived in. Great program you should get them on dvd I am tempted to now. Bring back Birds Of A Feather great 80s and 90s tv. x x

  • great voices.

  • the days of good tv vic windsor was in this

  • I love this version of the song what'l I do,who sings it?

  • @hillbrig Pauline Quirke & Linda Robson Sing This Version :)

  • I loved this program Dorian was more common than Sharon really they were just the same. She was mutton dressed as lamb lol tryin to be posh cos she was married to a toff all fur coat and no knickers as they say great prgram and these three together were comedy genius. They don`t make programs like that anymore bring back Birds Of A Feather Lesley Joseph Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke are brilliant actresses. x x

  • @MaterialGirlMad1989 Totally agree with you, used to love this show, when i was child, so many memorable moments, you ever remember the episode, my all time favourite, where Dorian got up on stage and sang Madonna's like virgin, in Sharon's place and won first prize, hillarious. They should release these on dvd, im just itching to buy them.

  • i used to iike watching this with my mum before she died so everynow and again it make me sad she was only 29 i misss her i really do.

  • I'm so sorry.

  • @darkestwolf24 wow so sorry to hear of your mum passing - esp so young xxx

  • god this takes me bk a few years...

  • I Should Of Well Been Born In The 80's Coz I Prefer Late 80's Early 90's Shows :)

  • why do all these wonderful old programmes have to go away from the modern tv miss it so much,

  • Love It, Gotta Love Shal & Trace & Door Lol

  • This song makes me so sad...

This was my mums favourite tv show and then she died aged 47...

It's so damn hard having dreams of her and knowing they'll never come true :(

  • Sorry to read here about your mom (mum) passing away. Mine recently died too. I cannot even watch too much TV any more as it reminded me of her too much.

I am only starting to watch BBC comedies. They are funny...though the English sense of humor (humour) is different than the US.

    Peace

  • @CJCartoons My mum used to sing this to me as a a child. She passed away just about a year ago, aged 55. I feel you :(

  • @CJCartoons Me too. I remember when i was young and my mum used to watch this show. It just brings back so many memories

  • @CJCartoons I know what you mean, my dad died aged 47, three and a half years ago

  • @CJCartoons I have the exact same feeling. My Mum died in her early 40s and she watched this a lot. I hadn't heard it in ages then suddenly last year it came on the TV and I must have cried for about three hours straight.

  • @CJCartoons Thats so beautiful and so sad!!! i'm so sorry for your loss!! x

  • @CJCartoons Stay strong..sorry for your loss

  • @CJCartoons - I know the feeling CJ as my dad used to sing it to me every time it came on about me leaving home. He died 1 week before my 18th birthday, was 47 the same age, and didn't see me leave home or graduate from uni. Take care and just think your mum is looking down at you and no doubt keeping an eye open for you.

  • @CJCartoons This is the same reason I listened to this!

  • @CJCartoons I'm sorry for your loss. This was my Mum's favourite show too, I grew up watching it with her. She died aged 46 when I was 17. The song makes me both happy and sad though, because it brings back a lot of happy memories from the time she was alive.

  • @ArwenPendragon I'm slowly starting to get over it, doesn't bother me as much as it used to

  • @CJCartoons my mum died last year, aged 41 (about to turn 42 two months later).... I know how you feel.

Sometimes i dream of her coming back as if it was all a joke =(

We used to sit and watch this when I was a kid, along with Brookside and many others...

  • @Demonickitten666 I'm really sorry to hear that.. I'm just starting to get over it myself but it's taken me about 4 years....

I see you play Perfect World International too (judging by your profile picture lol)

  • @Demonickitten666 I just read your profile lol. Weird i went to Newcastle-under-lyme college and now i live in Newcastle-upon-Tyne but never been to that college xD

  • @CJCartoons bless u hunni my mum passed at 48 n loved this too xx

  • @CJCartoons same here, most of the 80's show's i watched/have memories are because of her. Everytime I watch something like this I remember her and sitting watching it with her. The best one is Prisoner Cell Block H...i was allowed to stay up till 2 in the morning watching that!

  • Yeah the lyrics are so powerful for me... She was the only person who could ever make me feel happier and would never judge me or desert me.. When she died i'd have dreams of her and i'd hug her so tight, hoping that if i hugged her tight enough she'd come back to the waking world with me.. Sadly it doesn't work that way =-( When she died i had nobody to make me feel better and the only person who could make me feel better only existed in my dreams so a big catch 22 for me...

  • Actually if you go to my channel you'll see a video called "Me singing What'll i Do.." i sang it for her but the second verse you can hear my voice breaking up because it was so hard not to break down into tears.

  • Waddle, I do.....

  • Comment removed

  • jesus...I'm slowly realising that all of my first experiences of negative emotions are tied to TV programs...this theme = one of the first times I ever felt melancholy...

also, randomly, first time I ever felt depressed for no reason? watching the Generation Game, aged 9. Very strange to think of all of this!

  • loved this show, watched it in South Africa. Finally hit me to try and find it on Youtube, for the memories, and voila! found it. Still funny!

  • I hate this song but in a good way.

It makes me think of my mum when she died and i'd dream of her...

"When i'm alone with only dreams of you that won't come true what will i do?"

    :(

  • The only part of this show I remember as a child was the credits where they both ran into the distance as children with the theme tune.

  • I remember watching this show when I was a kid in the 90's I always remember for some reason thinking Pauline Quirke reminded me of a cabbage patch doll LOL

  • lol so true, my mum used to love this show, so my brother and i used to watch it as kids too! we used to have a teacher at primaary school who looked the spit of Doorian.

  • ditto, I love the memory, probably more than the show but the theme tune always makes me feel so good...you know!

  • Lolness

  • such a hauntingly beautiful introduction...

strange and i guess unique (never seen it elsewhere myself) for a comedy show to have a song verging on depressing for the introduction

i remebered this song from when i was a kid - me and my sister knew all the words and used to sing along! LOL! :P

didnt mean we got on, we faught each other like hell!

  • this is depressing.. but beautiful at the same time.. i use to watch this and get a hard on everytime i saw dawn french's fat ass

  • dawn french?

  • Linda and Pauline ae really good singers ...great intro! ..this show brings back so many memories!

  • i used to love watching this show. i have sum of series 1 on dvd. my favourites r Sharon and Doorien

  • omg so many memories i watched this as a child!

  • I know this may be a kinda silly question but are all the pictures they have up in the intro is that really them...the first lot as kids???

  • I like how the smiles fade as life crushes them

  • LMAO!!!!! that's hilarious!! I agree with you im not making fun of what you said, but it's just funny how you said it so factually

  • I love this programme but I really love the theme it is exremely beautiful, I was only a little child then but still I love it, it brings back memories.

  • the theme tune was actually written back in 1923 by irving berlin he was like the sinatra of his day and yes its a beautifull song

  • very beautiful!!!

  • really good intro.

  • god i remember this so well. it's such a cute intro, and yet sad as well. I was a toddler then. Long time ago...

  • I always felt sad with this intro, it reminds me of Sunday with Sunday dinner of pate with mum and my sister.

  • Me too! Only with us it was marmite on toast. lol Ah, the old days...

  • Sometimes we were given Marmite, my sister and I, with butter on brown bread.

  • @caturn88 you love it or you hate it

  • lol

    i love this show

    still on paramount comdy 2

had a whole weekend of it, lovely to watch whilst hungover.

  • ...no i dont watch corra......

  • i remember this i used tio love it wen little

  • WOW, i must have been 10 when this was on tv!

  • god i was so young when this came on, everytime i heard the intro id be so sad and depressed.lol

  • what is the name of this song? looking for it ever were!

  • What'll I Do by Irving Berlin. It has been performed by many including Grace Moore and John Steel (originally), Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Alison Krauss, Rufus Wainwright to name but a few! This version is performed by Pauline Quirke & Linda Robson who starred as the two main characters from the BBC comedy Birds of a Feather to which it was the theme tune.

  • See above ;-)

  • What'll I do is the name of this song...Boo Hoo, its a sad war song.

  • I love this show to bits and i will never get bored or tired of it. Ordinary people, so much to relate to in many ways, i like brit comedy but this has always been my favourite and am so glad it was created and is now brilliant TV history!:) I've too seen Lesley Joseph on Stage in Annie and she was fab. I think each actress here is great in there own way.

  • This also reminds me of my mum:: FUCK WHY????

  • It seems Birds of a Feather reminds a lot of people of their mums, add me to that list too.

  • birds of a feather was absolutely brilliant. they just dont make any decent tv series anymore. i was lucky enough to meet lesley joseph when she performed at a pantomime (it was cinderella, she was the fairy godmother) when i was around 6yrs old (i'm 22 now, she was fantastic x x x x

  • Makes me think of my mum that died this year -.-

  • sorry to hear your mum died.such a sad (but great )theme tune .

  • such a sad theme tune then you see pauline quirke at 0.45 you cant help but laugh.

  • I used to watch this with my sister when i was about 6. I loved it then, and i love it now.

To this day that song still makes me feel a bit weepy. Something about it is so emotional.

  • How much I loved this show!

It had such a beautiful theme tune, the most wonderfull thing about british comedy was when it set normal people in a difficult situation making the best of it. Funny and with a strong message, brilliant!

I met Lesley Joseph at a promotional event she was doing in my home town and she was most gracious and very supportive towards my ambition to work in the performing arts!

  • i love this show

  • might a be stupid question but how did they get the younger pics of them? did they used to know each other or did they use lookie likes or something?

i know the programme was on for 9 years but they are very young in some of the pics and it looks just like them (ie the teenage pic on 14 seconds)

  • they have been friends since they were born

  • one of my mums all time favorites x

  • birds of a feather was absolutley amazing, and al ask the age old question if u never liked it then why have u specifically searched for this vid :S

  • dont be a prick the are sisters , not lesbiens and it is funny ! u obviously have a crap sense of humor!

  • The theme tune used to make me cry when i was younger for some reason, I found it very emotional

  • wheres the opening where they have them as little kids running in the park?

  • i think that might have been on the closing credits

  • aww that song, i love it, i wish it was a propper song.....tis a bit depressing tho

  • I LOVED this! Brilliant show!

  • They're sisters!!!!!

  • im going to sound thick now - but were they really mates 4 that long?

  • This is too much for my heart its unlocked a vault of memories, its theme of me and my brothers early child hood.

  • i loved this when it was on

  • this mite sound dumb but is that really those two at the begining like have they known each other since that long?

  • looks photoshopped lol

  • Her co-star in the series, Linda Robson, was a childhood friend and they've known each

other since the age of 5 at primary school. They've worked together on numerous

projects aside from Birds of a Feather, including Shine on Harvey Moon and an

advertising campaign for the soap powder 'Surf' in which they play next-door neighbours

I got this from a website on pauline quirk.

    battling for the whitest washing!!

  • my mom used to sing this to me to get to sleep when i was a baby!

  • I used to sing this to my Grandmother..

  • Please can someone upload the ending credits please? Those two little girls were so cuute!!!

  • In the theme tune, Is it actually Linda and pauline singing ?

  • yep

  • my ma used to sing it to me when i was a baby! now she lives in brazil! its a good song! brings back the memories!

  • I used to watch this show. I was wondering if it is out on DVD?

  • I know season 1 is on DVD, and there are some VHS's available of certain episodes, however I think that is it. shame really!

  • where can i download this sweet tune, i love it, miss it terrable!!

  • This theme use to bring a tear to my eye, very emotional

  • i miss shows like this, stuff telly addicts, fifteen to 1 and eastenders with those original chracters

  • beautiful song

  • happy memories for me and my brother!!

  • LOL, how nice. Old memories.

  • WOW! I remember watching the repeats of this from when I was a child.

  • God I used to love this programme. My mum used to sing "What'll I Do" to me. A couple of years after it finished we went to see Linda Robson in pantomime and she sang the song, it was so amazing.
