I was humming this to myself yesterday and I knew it was a theme but wasn't sure from what. It's weird how memories that haven't been used for years and years suddenly come back to you.
Birds of a Feather was a daytime sitcom that was on BBC1 in the afternoons in the 90s & was quite funny back in the day too cos this show & Keeping Up Appearence were two 90s sitcoms that were on during the day which weren't that bad either. Sharon & Tracy act like real siblings too & Doreen the old slapper in it is like Rose out off the other sitcom too.
Remember this long ago when I was 10 or something, not sure why I searched for it, just always remember the titles, nostalgia of better times I guess.
I used to grimace at my parents when this show came on TV. Although I always sat through each episode waiting for the 'hilarious' appearance of Dorian, or when one of the jailbird husbands appeared. Now, looking back, (it's the old hindsight thing) I can clearly see the perspective and context. I hated Linda Robson. As a teenage boy I found Pauline Quirke the sexy one and could never understand why Linda was supposed to be the 'catch'!
ah you guys really have an awesome life, sitting on YouTube commenting on videos of people you hate. Let me guess, the dole is keeping your internet going?
In the meantime, this show really reminds me of my childhood. Awesome show, it's all about the connection.
think carlton got it bang on. the programme was shite, robson and quirke are 2 dog ugly useless talentless actresses. pair of whores if you believe the rumours.
bit harsh there carlton754, wonder what your claim to fame is! I think she's a great actress..you guys sound dirty on the world because you probably all ended up with ugly cockney slags...or is it the small penis syndrome?

a programme about, 3 tired, old, fat sad, ugly, fucking slags. talentless cows should never have been made, fucking crap. just like those 3 ugly slappers.
@paulgregs2006 i used to loooove this show when i was little mum and i used to watch it without fail, the song used to make me cry not sure why though
What'll i do with only dreams of you that won't come true? What'll i do?
I'm CJCartoons...
I dream about my mum almost every night and it really upsets me that she's gone but she was the only person who could make me feel better.. So dreaming about her knowing she's dead, waking up and not having her to turn to.. Kinda bites you in the ass....
@RisingDampChamp I hope in time you will be able to move on with your life and I don't mean by forgetting your mum or putting memories of your mum to one side. Because you will always be reminded of your mother through personal things, places and events. But hopefully it will be more easier over time, there is an saying time is a great healer.Anyways take care and look after yourself.
@MeBenHalpin yes I remember that episode I loved Dorian Green she was your typical Essex housewife I loved the house they lived in. Great program you should get them on dvd I am tempted to now. Bring back Birds Of A Feather great 80s and 90s tv. x x
I loved this program Dorian was more common than Sharon really they were just the same. She was mutton dressed as lamb lol tryin to be posh cos she was married to a toff all fur coat and no knickers as they say great prgram and these three together were comedy genius. They don`t make programs like that anymore bring back Birds Of A Feather Lesley Joseph Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke are brilliant actresses. x x
@MaterialGirlMad1989 Totally agree with you, used to love this show, when i was child, so many memorable moments, you ever remember the episode, my all time favourite, where Dorian got up on stage and sang Madonna's like virgin, in Sharon's place and won first prize, hillarious. They should release these on dvd, im just itching to buy them.
Sorry to read here about your mom (mum) passing away. Mine recently died too. I cannot even watch too much TV any more as it reminded me of her too much.
I am only starting to watch BBC comedies. They are funny...though the English sense of humor (humour) is different than the US.
@CJCartoons I have the exact same feeling. My Mum died in her early 40s and she watched this a lot. I hadn't heard it in ages then suddenly last year it came on the TV and I must have cried for about three hours straight.
@CJCartoons - I know the feeling CJ as my dad used to sing it to me every time it came on about me leaving home. He died 1 week before my 18th birthday, was 47 the same age, and didn't see me leave home or graduate from uni. Take care and just think your mum is looking down at you and no doubt keeping an eye open for you.
@CJCartoons I'm sorry for your loss. This was my Mum's favourite show too, I grew up watching it with her. She died aged 46 when I was 17. The song makes me both happy and sad though, because it brings back a lot of happy memories from the time she was alive.
@Demonickitten666 I just read your profile lol. Weird i went to Newcastle-under-lyme college and now i live in Newcastle-upon-Tyne but never been to that college xD
@CJCartoons same here, most of the 80's show's i watched/have memories are because of her. Everytime I watch something like this I remember her and sitting watching it with her. The best one is Prisoner Cell Block H...i was allowed to stay up till 2 in the morning watching that!
Yeah the lyrics are so powerful for me... She was the only person who could ever make me feel happier and would never judge me or desert me.. When she died i'd have dreams of her and i'd hug her so tight, hoping that if i hugged her tight enough she'd come back to the waking world with me.. Sadly it doesn't work that way =-( When she died i had nobody to make me feel better and the only person who could make me feel better only existed in my dreams so a big catch 22 for me...
Actually if you go to my channel you'll see a video called "Me singing What'll i Do.." i sang it for her but the second verse you can hear my voice breaking up because it was so hard not to break down into tears.
jesus...I'm slowly realising that all of my first experiences of negative emotions are tied to TV programs...this theme = one of the first times I ever felt melancholy...
also, randomly, first time I ever felt depressed for no reason? watching the Generation Game, aged 9. Very strange to think of all of this!
I remember watching this show when I was a kid in the 90's I always remember for some reason thinking Pauline Quirke reminded me of a cabbage patch doll LOL
lol so true, my mum used to love this show, so my brother and i used to watch it as kids too! we used to have a teacher at primaary school who looked the spit of Doorian.
I love this programme but I really love the theme it is exremely beautiful, I was only a little child then but still I love it, it brings back memories.
What'll I Do by Irving Berlin. It has been performed by many including Grace Moore and John Steel (originally), Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Alison Krauss, Rufus Wainwright to name but a few! This version is performed by Pauline Quirke & Linda Robson who starred as the two main characters from the BBC comedy Birds of a Feather to which it was the theme tune.
I love this show to bits and i will never get bored or tired of it. Ordinary people, so much to relate to in many ways, i like brit comedy but this has always been my favourite and am so glad it was created and is now brilliant TV history!:) I've too seen Lesley Joseph on Stage in Annie and she was fab. birds of a feather was absolutely brilliant. they just dont make any decent tv series anymore. i was lucky enough to meet lesley joseph when she performed at a pantomime (it was cinderella, she was the fairy godmother) when i was around 6yrs old (i'm 22 now, she was fantastic x x x x
It had such a beautiful theme tune, the most wonderfull thing about british comedy was when it set normal people in a difficult situation making the best of it. Funny and with a strong message, brilliant!
I met Lesley Joseph at a promotional event she was doing in my home town and she was most gracious and very supportive towards my ambition to work in the performing arts!
God I used to love this programme. My mum used to sing "What'll I Do" to me. A couple of years after it finished we went to see Linda Robson in pantomime and she sang the song, it was so amazing.
God I miss the 90's. Life seemed so much more innocent back then.

I used to watch this with my sister when i was about 6. I loved it then, and i love it now.
To this day that song still makes me feel a bit weepy. Something about it is so emotional.

How much I loved this show!
It had such a beautiful theme tune, the most wonderfull thing about british comedy was when it set normal people in a difficult situation making the best of it. Funny and with a strong message, brilliant!
I met Lesley Joseph at a promotional event she was doing in my home town and she was most gracious and very supportive towards my ambition to work in the performing arts!

might a be stupid question but how did they get the younger pics of them? did they used to know each other or did they use lookie likes or something?
i know the programme was on for 9 years but they are very young in some of the pics and it looks just like them (ie the teenage pic on 14 seconds)

Her co-star in the series, Linda Robson, was a childhood friend and they've known each
other since the age of 5 at primary school. They've worked together on numerous
projects aside from Birds of a Feather, including Shine on Harvey Moon and an
advertising campaign for the soap powder 'Surf' in which they play next-door neighbours
I got this from a website on pauline quirk.

God I used to love this programme. My mum used to sing "What'll I Do" to me. A couple of years after it finished we went to see Linda Robson in pantomime and she sang the song, it was so amazing.
