I read that at the NME '64 gig the bands had to just run straight out onto the stage without setting up or doing a sound check. As result it really tested the musicians out in such rushed circumstances. If you listen to other performances from the same gig you'll notice the mixing is sometimes terrible. These did alright though, I think the performance by the Kinks weren't very good though. It ain't their fault.
Remember that is was the Swinging Blue Jeans, the established house band at the Cavern in Liverpool who invited the then unknown Beatles to play at the Cavern!
It's quite possible that macca and lennon learned a trick or two from the seasoned Swinging Blue Jeans!
at 0:58 the world's most famous loose microphone stand makes its appearance. This same mic plagued the Merseys and finally onto John Lennon at this same concert. Those were the days of no serious roadies or techs. All was by the seats of the britches, SAY why do these English guys all hang their guitars so high. Here, Gerry Marsden, Ray Davies, Lek and a host of others. Right up to their chins.
The British beat groups were the most important thing in my life growing up.
So Beatle-esq. I've always wanted a pair of Beatle boots. If a time machine is ever invented I'm going back to Liverpool in that era, get a guitar, amp and most definitely
a pair of Beatle boots. These are great post. Thanks I'm having day. Rock on
@Grifiki George Harrison sang in 1964, what about I'm just happy to dance with you and Everybodys trying to be my baby, Don't bother me, Roll over Beethoven, to name a few.
The epitome of Merseybeat rock and roll , straight out of a Liverpool or Hamburg club. A great band. Be sure to check out the Swingin' Blue Jeans 'EMI Years' 4 cd set.
Their UK compilation CD '25 Greatest' is an excellent collection for anyone not wanting to get some multi-CD set. I had their first US LP, but it didn't make much of an impact on me other than the hit tracks.
Years later, I think they are quite under-appreciated. The mono/stereo reissue of their first album is also excellent, as some of the mono mixes are punchier.
What! - David Jacobs stoned out of his mind! - I don't think so! - in fact he always had that stary look - watch him in charge of Juke Box Jury - just his way, I think you'll find.
Ralph Ellis actually quit to go into the insurance business where he had a successful career. Sadly, Ray Ennis announcec his retirement next year. RIP Les Braid and Colin Manly
hehehe There's probably a few million people out there who disagree, but they were very popular at The Jacaranda Club in Liverpool. Mum used to love seeing them there, as well as another beat group playing not far away in Mathew Street...
Ray Ennis will return th the stage in 2012 with:
Ray Ennís Blue Jeans

It's too bad the Swinging Blue Jeans had to contend with a loose microphone stand. How annoying for them, and usually quite a preventable problem!

We need another invasion like this to get back to good ol' rock 'n' roll and force Beiber and Gaga into early retirement.

Really funny, I love The Swinging Blue Jeans, especially Ray Ennis with his soooo great voice.
It's funny when they laugh because of the microphone.
And yes, I think that Ralph Ellis did the solo, he was the lead guitar and Ray the rythm guitar.
Love Ray!! :D
