I get what Tony was saying his execution being political. It should have been an international trial. Iraq didn't have WMD, Saddam wasn't involved in 9/11, so really it wasn't their responsibility. Maybe they felt guilt for their involvement in getting Iraq in the state it is today, and that executing him might bring more public approval. But putting their noses into other countries business is what created anger in the first place.

I'm assuming we are going to construct our arguments in factual history....first the easy part.... France did not conquer Germany. Russia also did not. They were part of the lend lease program that the USA provided in WWII. We sent them countless aircraft and weapons to support the war with Germany. Europe was lost until the USA entered. Germany declared war on the USA, not the other way around. The USA has returned all of the land it has conquered since 1900.

I get what Tony was saying his execution being political. It should have been an international trial. Iraq didn't have WMD, Saddam wasn't involved in 9/11, so really it wasn't their responsibility. Maybe they felt guilt for their involvement in getting Iraq in the state it is today, and that executing him might bring more public approval. But putting their noses into other countries business is what created anger in the first place.

Well, unlike many Labour politicians like Bliar, Brown. Benn never tore up the manifesto and betrayed his convictions, In order to get into power. Which is probably why he never became PM or was given a more senior position in the Wilson Cabinets. Granted his backround was hardly that of a typical Socialist. Absolutely spot on from Tony Benn, he interviewed Saddam in 2003 and knew the truth about "weapons of mass destruction" and Iraqi involvement in 9/11 and with Al Queda being false.
Yes Saddam was corrupt and evil, but his own people would have saw to him in the end, the real problem was in Afghanistan and it still is today, Bush saw an opportunity for oil as Benn said, and he didn't hesitate to move in.

I'm assuming we are going to construct our arguments in factual history....first the easy part.... France did not conquer Germany. Russia also did not. They were part of the lend lease program that the USA provided in WWII. We sent them countless aircraft and weapons to support the war with Germany. Europe was lost until the USA entered. Germany declared war on the USA, not the other way around. The USA has returned all of the land it has conquered since 1900.
