  • Nick Lowe has indeed had an impact on modern c+w. I had an EP 30 years ago where he and Dave Edmunds did 4 Everly Bros. songs. Very C+W sounding. This also sounds a lot like Huey Lewis's song The Heart of Rock and Rol,l of that same time. I wonder whose came first?

  • @woodshop1014 Dave Edmunds 1st popularized this song in 1977.

  • At 0:46, Emilio Estevez in a military jacket. Lol.

  • I was a mobile DJ for 15 years, played close to 1500 weddings and at about 1000 of them I pulled this one out!!! Never got tired of playing it.

  • I'm looking at this & looking at the wife , and thinking...........!

  • Modern American 'Country & Western' owes a lot to Dave Edmunds & Nick Lowe...

  • @40coupe1 And vice a versa. You have to remember that Nick was married to Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, and step sister to Roseanne Cash, who was married to Rodney Crowell, who has contributed alot to that Modern Country sound.

  • I dedicated this song at my sister - in- law's wedding.....she didn't think it was funny.

  • three people didn't get invited to the wedding..

  • 'But I remember a time when she never would have looked at him twice'...priceless! Almost all of us know a girl who married a guy and we thought the same dang thing.

  • Everyone in the church is cooler then the groom.

  • should be played LOUD at EVERY wedding !!

  • excelente clásico !!!!!

  • @jahspromise no , i believe you do

  • AWESOME!

  • This song is originally from nick's (1985) album "The Rose of England", I'm lovin' it, Oh Yeah !!!

  • I guess the groom and his mum are the 2 dislikes!

  • Sadly one of the the most underrated rockers and one of the great rockabilly exponents - fab track, very clever lyric, saw him do it and will never forget the vibe at the venue!!! - rock on dude

  • Amen! Some of the best, solid Rock and Roll ever recorded. Nick's song writing is right up there with the best. Long live Nick Lowe! My first band The Dialtones loved him, and now The What 4 does too.

  • This song absolutely KILLS.

  • If any of Nick's songs "sound" like someone else's song (like this has a Chuck Berry "C'est La Vie" feel), Nick knows exactly what he was doing.

  • Great progression and harmonies - reminds me of Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell."

  • This video cracks me up. Maybe one of the best music videos ever

  • I always liked Dave Edmonds version BUT This is the best one by far!

  • the king from rockpile

  • i rock to this tune i love it

  • Dave Edmunds (and Nick Lowe - his cohert for a few important years) are no frauds. They where - and are - ironic rock and pop rebells.

  • @SteinEgeberg Did you hit your head? Or is there a lot of lead paint in your house? Did you mean to say cohort and iconic or are you starting a spin-off language from English?

  • @joeytwosubs You are partially right - should read "cohorts", so there might be some lead around here :-) However; Nick Lowe uses the pop genre in an ironic way - but you are can also throw in the term "iconic" too - both artists are in a league of their own. Thanks for correction :-)

  • @SteinEgeberg I'm just kidding you friend, if you like Nick Lowe you gotta be allright.

  • @joeytwosubs Hi, and thanks. Guess who is playing in Oslo (I'm Norwegian and live in

Oslo) with full band at the 7.th of February? None other than the man, Nick

Lowe! And I have tickets - going with a bunch of friends. I have seen

several of his solo tours, but the concert he did with five piece band in a

small rock dive called Cruise cafè about 20 years ago was the best gig I

    have ever seen.

  • @SteinEgeberg I am one jealous bastard. Enjoy !

  • Dave Edmunds is a FRAUD and RIP-OFF Artist.... How did he get away with it for so long????? Seriously, people...he is a FRAUD.... He betrayed my dad (although my dad doesn't want ANYTHING to do with what I am doing.....) He LIED to people and now that I hear he is sick.....Karma has a way of making you realise..but I DOUBT that Dave even remembers MY dad OR ANYONE ELSE.........

  • I always wondered what the original sounded like. Kevin Bloody Wilson's Decomposed version is pretty funny.

  • Is the groom Shane McGowan of the Pogues?

  • i LOVE HILLBILLY SONGS

  • Coool- thanks!

  • Anybody notice that she's wearing a different dress at the reception?

  • Anybody notice that she's wearing a different dress at the reception?

  • didn't we all?

  • What was wrong with the old video?

  • @willytee54456 what do you mean by "old Video"?Is there a other one out there?

  • @Marvinbruce76 There was a different version on here a few years ago and on MTV when this came out. The groom wasn't a nerd just a rich kid who she was marring to set herself up for the good life.

  • @Marvinbruce76 I can tell you with certainty that this is the original Nick Lowe version that was released in October, '85. I know this because I was married that month, and this was pretty popular with us. Unfortunately, the band didn't know it so couldn't play it at the reception.

  • Awsome Song.... !!!! so what ever became of Nick Lowe??

    Art

  • @fragglerock5000

Apparently Curtis Stiger covered his song "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" it was on the Bodyguard soundtrack and Nick Lowe made enough in royalties from that to be set comfortable for life. But still records and does minor tours every few year. If the rumour mill is true, he could be at Glastonbury festival again this year.

  • Found a good Dave Edmund version, ROCKIN!!

  • I heard this on the way home from work tonight and had to come home and see the video. Hadn't heard it for so long I'd forgotten how amazing this song was!

  • He looks like the actor Peter Coyote.

  • Dave Edmund has this hit of his on here too, but the sound track is no where as good....too bad....

  • God, when youre on a road trip, you have the windows down, blasting down the highway into the setting sun, and have the volume for this song turned all the way up!

  • I love Dave Edmonds but Nick Lowe really put this song on the map.

Dave rocks, but Nick hit this one out of the park.

They're both great, and I hope they're still good friends, because I'd like to see Rockpile in the future. I mean Jagger's still alive; Rockpile has much more to contribute, I think!!!!! With the combined talent (provided they don't do drugs) Rockpile can revive the fundamental rock genre. And I mean that, you bastards!!!!!!

  • Has enough hair for my entire family

  • love love love this song & video

  • I had this played at my wedding reception ....lol

  • @katherinereece epic.

  • @katherinereece Same here. 25 years ago last week!!

  • @katherinereece was it for a game where all the men danced around you?

  • One of my old time favorites...

  • This is my favorite version. I believe Dave Edmunds did the original.

  • Was this a remake of something he did in the 70s with Rockpile?

  • @shmuli9 the song ( written by Lowe ) was first recorded by Dave Edmunds for his 1977 solo album Get It and later featured in Rockpile`s concerts

  • kick ass song

  • Great But where's the original?

  • This was played at my wedding in 84. Nick was, and is still so cute.

    What a doll.

  • This guy is on the Brian Carlson Agenda!

  • Very very much influenced by "You Never Can Tell"!

  • I always thought that this song was by John Cafferty and Beaver Brown band.

  • Brilliant.. was the second song at my best friends wedding!

  • great song by nick, but not as good as the original version by dave edmunds and nick (rockpile)

  • Like the song says, I "knew" the bride she used to Rock 'N Roll.

  • We once were close friends!!!

  • Rockin' with gray hair and all! FOASIS

  • This album (The Rose of England) was produced by Huey Lewis, and he brought in his band "The News" for this cut. That is most definitely Huey's harmonica you're hearing.

  • @DBMalone Okay, you know that's utter bullshit because Nick is one of the greatest producers ever and he doesn't need any help, he mixes his own records. He's mixed some of the greatest records of all time.

  • @nmyrk Huey produced this track, brought in the News for harmony, and played harmonica. Nick produced the rest of the album.

  • FANTASTIC!!! Lol... is that Colonel Sanders at 1:46?

  • @dimpledick3inch Actually I thought she said it on stage after a song I may stand corrected. I always liked her

  • Carlene Carter and some of the Cash family in this vid as Nick Lowe and Carlene were married at the time

  • Nick and Dave and Rockpile = Volumes of hits.

  • He "nicks" the bride at the end!

  • great to jive to

  • that's not nick lowe it's dave edmunds

  • @512glebe its nick lowe dude!

  • Nick Lowe rocks and rolls

  • That's a 57 Ford T-Bird. This is one of most Fav RockPile Songs. It wasn't on the Seconds Of Pleasure album-- But it is available on both Dave Emmunds and Nick Lowe's separate Albums/cds. Daves version is more speeded up and kinda frenzied. Personally I like Nicks version- here. He even does it on accoustic nowdays in concert. Check it out.--- Sir JJ from Long Island

  • is that johnny ramone at 2.03?

  • Can anyone ID the car that Nick and the bride drive off in? It looks a little bit like the original Batmobile!

  • been looking for this song forever!! thanks!!

  • Like Nick Lowe, but damn this dude aged hard.

  • Why this was not his biggest hit in America is beyond me! At WTCS we played this thing in heavy rotation for like half a year!!!

  • I remember this on Night Tracks.

  • sock dancing at my computer - great upbeat tune!

  • I would have loved to have seen the group "The Mavericks" record this song. Raul Paulo voice woud have been perfect for it!

  • There's a version of this son by The Knack that's incredible.

  • The best R'nR song ever

  • superbe musique merci

  • Great Version.

  • This not only follows the structure and theme of Chuck Berry's You Never Can Tell, it also follows a large part of the tune. Still, dear old Chuck was not averse to plagiarising himself, so who cares? A brilliant song.

  • Yep, both kick, both work, Yi-ha!

  • fuckin wicked tunage for partying....good ol zoo tunes, the zoo from fort st james yo...roughest zoo this side of the rockies

  • at my wedding they played this song for when all the men danced around my wife, each man got a fast dance..

  • Great vid. Nick is the man.

  • Anyone notice Nick Lowe's resemblance to Carl Smith (Carlene's dad)?

  • A marvelous composition that is a perfect companion piece to Chuck Berry's You Never Can Tell, structure wise.

Nick Lowe is a true keeper of the rock and roll flame.

  • nice .................good ear!!!

  • Thanks!

Emmylou Harris did a great job of "You never can tell". Perhaps she should try this number too.
