You could use the same trick on FG's and Extra Point attempts with Lawrence Taylor, and block every kick.

in two player mode there are a series of plays to install that can neutralize the nose tackle dive.

my brother and I were pretty hard core at this game - we'd beat everyone we ever played except each other. the games always came down to 5-3 or 7-9. something like that.

Tecmo was the best game ever.

We used to call it the quick nosetackle. When I played my friends at this game we had to make a special rule not to use the quick nosetackle flaw.

It stops counting at 226 sacks as I recall. Gerald Williams for the Steelers!! I used to track it with dashes on a sheet of paper after I went over the limit. I think he ended up with 254. That's better than Bruce Smith's career record ;)

Another good defensive glitch is you come back to the second row of defenders and pic the guy at the bottom of the second row. When the ball is hiked to the QB pause do not move for just a sec and the offensive guys will ignore you and you can either run right in to the QB, block any pass if he is throwing to a guy on the bottom of the screen, or take down any runners that are coming down the screen.

I could lead the league in sacks no matter what player I had. Even a cornerback or safety could easily get 40-50 sacks as season. I once had around 75 in one season with Deion Sanders.

This is NOT a glitch, its a perfect move, and if you don't do it right it you can get blocked. Once perfected, I remember having opponents completely change plays to adjust. Tackles in the backfield, sacks, fumbles injuries...in a word, beautiful.

You can get around this by playing with the Eagles, if I remember correctly. That QB was fast enough that he could get back before the dive would work.

That was the most F'd up glitch with this game. No matter what play u called unless it was a toss sweep, the QB was toast.

The NT would be in the backfield wrecking havoc before the ball could be passed from ANY formation or handed off on any run play. I would D up the shotgun by calling it myself, especially against Miami w/Marino. He was either munching the turf or watching my DB pick sixing him all day.

@emauriceharr It never happened to me. My cousins and I would do this all the time so we would pick shotguns plays or plays that had handoffs. I remember I would get close to sacking the QB when they are in shotgun. By time my player got up the pass would be completed already

In the SNES version I would rape the QB with Gerald Williams from the Steelers. If you look at the NFL lead boards for stats and you look at sacks for the season the numbers weren't made to go past 99 sacks in a season. by game 4 or 5 I would have "8" - "15" but be #1 while # 2 would have around 14 - 20 something. It starts over every 100. hahahahaha I'm too good!!!!

Tecmo sack artists... Pat Swilling, Derrick Thomas, Jerome Brown, LT and damn near any nose tackle that was healthy. Bruce Smith was nasty too, but it's hard to get there from the tackle spot.

@mreastside803 Yep, I had something like 200+ sacks with Cortez Kennedy on one game back in the day.... that guy was a beast. If you learned formations, you could also still stop a lot of run plays for negative gains if the dive tackle wouldn't work.

Using the Lower DT I would just cut up into the Center to bust up the Middle. With a good DT you would own everyone, and with a decent one your other DT or your MLB would own. The only thing less fair than this was controlling Lawrence Taylor.

It was very effective when no lineman pulled. Against the computer, especially late in the season, it could the formula for getting burned on the ground with sweep plays for touchdowns. Good for pissin your friends off one on one though :)

That's not a glitch; it's called a "lurch", and it's probably the cheapest thing you can do in Tecmo (short of looking at your opponent's controller when he's calling a play).

Yup, I used to use The Chicago Bears and I'd consistently use The Fridge as my primary defensive player.

At the end of 1 season, I had something like 74 sacks - just with The Fridge.

I wouldn't call that a glitch. You couldn't do it with EVERY Nose Tackle against every Center. But it is a very handy secret to have.

There is ways to get around this if someone does this all the time. All you have to do is mix run plays with pass plays (shotgun formation), and then you will be able to not have this problem.

When we used to play we banned picking the nose tackle because of this trick . This trick also, work for the DE'S but, you can avoid them.

Put all your pass plays to shotgun and 2 of your running plays to shotgun. the rest sweep up and sweep down!
