  • The next time my husband complains about his head being sensitive when I'm brushing his hair out, I'm showing him this video!

  • COOL, Afros were in way back then too! It must have taken a lot of tiny strips of cloth to curl it that tightly if her hair wasn't actually that curly. Love seeing black n white photos. I begin to wonder what their lives were like.

  • Now that's some holy hair!! :)

  • I have long hair for years but only below the shouders long on the back but I would never keep the hair touching the floor, it is too much, during Victorian era a lady wasn`t a lady without having long hair ! I have to go to the hairdresser weekly in order to keep my hair clean and in good shape .. at home is really difficult for the lenght, also I need a proper blow dry as I am not an hairdresser. It is expensive over time but it worth the money and time for the great result !

  • so back then was the thing " the longer the hair the hotter you are"..because it seems that way

  • @aussielover45 Dont know if you were considered a catch but they came from a error that said your hair was your crowning glory...These sisters tour with the circus act Barnum an Bailey soooo ya it was the thing to have HAIR !!!!!

  • whoah. i don't feel so alone with my cumbersome uber-long hair. maybe I don't really have to cut it when it reaches the floor...........obviously, they managed to upkeep theirs at those lengths.

  • I used to live in Hawaii and had very long hair then, the climate and water are good for that. But the "locals" there used to claim that us "white people" can't grow long hair like the Polynesians and Asians can...WELL, this is proof that WE CAN!

  • 1:06 looks like Drew Barrymore. Perhaps she was her great grandmother.

  • omg, I think I'll just stop at my tail bone, it's at my waist at the moment would never be able to care for hair that's to the ground o.o

  • ...Just the moment I thought that they looked a bit scary, came a photo with my name on it(I have long hair myself) o_o creepy~!

  • idk if I would want that much hair! wow@

  • PSSHH who needs a coat

  • o my gosh! is it true?! my god i love victorian era, i love everything about it!

  • It´s clear that they bind the hair up with braids.. That´s the secret of keeping it healthy

  • Music?

  • wow..and i thought mine was long

  • I haven't had mine THIS long, but I have had it long enough to sit on it. I cut it because it got where my kids were always sitting on it when I needed to get up. It was also quite heavy. That floor-length hair must have weighed a ton! To get hair to grow long, it is important to avoid breaking it off. Keeping it up or braided most of the time, including at night. keeps it from tangling. Combing and brushing carefully is important and so is avoiding too much heat styling of any kind.

  • awesome!!! how did they girls growing thei hair such long?

  • @MsHobgobblin by not cutting it?

  • I knew cousin It was adopted. These are his long lost aunts.

  • I wonder how many of them had to sell their hair as women in Eastern Europe and Asia still do today.

  • The Renassiance and the Victorian Era have inspired me to grow my hair long :)

  • 0:36 OMG! AN ITCHY COAT!!!!!!!!!

  • ça fait peur!!

  • i bet she never gets cold

  • @mscuteasabutton1 They are all cold now.

    T

  • Whoa their hair drags the floor

  • you can tell they braided it so they could get the hundreds of kinks in thier hair XD i do that too

  • Holy moley... That is some long hair. This reminds me of the fairytale raunsel... most of these hairstyles though ended at about footlength... I wonder how long it would have taken to find all these images and where you found them. I bet a lot of those people in the pictures grew out their hair since they were children... for me to get to that length it would take years upon years upon years..... and by then my hair would already be falling out because of old age.

  • i can't even imagine the headaches you would get from hair that long.

  • Wow, this is truly amazing. We are seeing history in another light, not wars or sicknesses, but the long hair of females throughout the Victorian age. This astounds me, it only makes me wonder the years that they had waited for their hair to get that long. I actually find the photo at 5:28 to be a bit creepy though.

  • i wish i lived in the victorian times...all the princesses and long dresses T_T damit. anyway did u know that these people didnt bathe in during the victorian peroid? They think the dirt on the skin protects them from diseases...

  • WHAT IS THIS ?! :D IMEAN HOW IS THIS ?! I MEAN I'M GOING BANANA REALLY :D

PLEASE ANSWER ME IS THIS REALLY ? AND IF SO HOW IS THIS ? IS IT A GENETIC OR WHAT ?????? I REALLY CAN DO ANYTHING "EXCEPT MONEY :D I'M NOT RICH" TO MAKE MY HAIR VERY TALL LIKE THIS .... HOW CAN I DO IT ??? THANK YOU :)

  • Totally amazing... can you imagine trying to wash this hair without our modern shampoos... all their hair look really thick... And can you imagine if they caught headlice... ooooooft!!! xx

  • gross that is ugly hair.

  • I had NO idea this was the thing in Victoriam times!!

  • the hair is like long jackets that u didnt buy....

  • Some of those faces o_0 also, The sight of bangs on someone with long hair makes me cringe. It's not that it necessarily looks bad, but Why on earth would you cut years of growth off the front for a trend that lasts a season at a time. I hate bangs, they're not worth the annoyance.

  • They honestly look so scary x.x

  • cool they must be anime lovers...

  • EMG :| I can fit right in ;D

  • the human owls!! :O

  • Why does beautiful hair like this hardly exist anymore? I can't think of any female feature more beautiful than long hair like this.

  • Thank you for this fascinating collection of long haired ladies from Victorian times. As a long haired person myself, I certainly admire their ability to maintain such beautiful hair w/o the modern conveniences we enjoy today. That takes true dedication and patience. Much of the hair displayed "braid waves" and I would love to see updo portraits of how they arranged their very long tresses..plus instructions!

  • @erzbet07 I am glad to hear from people who watch these videos. In my collection I have posted some videos from the 1960s that deal with long hair. Plus, there is more at my Multiply site.

  • @rbd4n Thanks for the info! I'll have to visit your site soon and check it out. I'm always on the lookout for new ways to style my long hair, particularly anything regarding braiding.

  • Be careful, she may come back to haunt you.

    Tristan

  • @lindsyenoelbeck lol i thought the same :D HAIR porn!? it did make me wonder :/ them crazy victorians!! ...lol...but yes some of the women looked so pretty ..its really neat to see this collection of pics :)

  • This excellent collection just shows us that fashion a hundred years ago was so very different to today. I think most women today aren't aware of the potential growth of their hair. It's a natural beauty which doesn't cost a thing.

  • Quite alluring throughout history.

    Tristan

  • Fabulous! Thanks for making this and thanks to Rapunzel's Delight!

  • I love long hair too.
