I'cant believe, he is Dr. Robert. He is so changed. He is unrecognizable. He is not more so handsome sexy, charismatic as in the '80s also the music is completely changed. I don't like it any more. It reflects his mood. It is not more full of life as in the '80s. It is very sad and boring. I want him to be the same as 25 years ago.
what about our 80's stars?Dr Robert as you sung i still think that" you'r such a beautifull child",i enjoy your music wich one was a particular sound in the 80'.You have a place in my youth like Paddy Mac alone and the Prefab Sprout.
@dermot51: There's a little Michael Gambone in his look now as well . . . Damn, Dr. Rob -- I love you, but lay off the pork pies and do some P90X, Insanity, or Zumba already!
Rich, seductive, layered, beautiful treatment of an age old classic. Dr Rob's like fine wine, mellowed with age, he's still the consummate artist. Billie Holiday and Johnny Cash come to mind, in later years the flash faded and the sentimental and sensitive artists shone though, and here even a single note carries the passion that others of us in a lifetime just dream of. Bravo
I'm afraid so. That's what 20 years and an extra 50 pounds will do to you!
It's a shame he's gained so much weight; he doesn't wear it well. He was rather dapper in the 80s. For a shocking contrast, check out Banarama's recent video for "Move in My Direction." It was filmed 25 years after their heyday but they honestly look like they've only aged about 5 years. And no weird plastic surgery to account for it. They just look absolutely amazing.
Yes, I'm a fan of both the swank Blow Monkeys' stuff and the grittier solo rock material. Realms of Gold--I can listen to that album ten times in a row. I never tire of it.
Bananarama do look amazing, but sound awful! Have to admit, was very shocked by Dr Robert's current appearance (used to have crushes on him and Green Gartside when I was a teen) but think whisperingpaddle has hit the nail on the head. Love the current stuff from the Blow Monkeys as much as the older tunes.
@themanogni: You're right, but drugs did them in, which I don't necessarily think is Dr. Roberts' issue -- although it wouldn't be beyond reasonable to speculate as such given the whole "80's Pop Star" stereotype we've all come to love and enjoy.
He's hard to look at now.

I'm a bloke, I used to fancy Dr Robert. But he's now a fat horrible wobblebottom, & I'm cured.

The F****r can sing though! Different from the slightly over-produced (but very good!) stuff that they did in the 80's.

@DaftSwank Yes. But think of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson and their transformation...
