  • Love the way the old cars used to move around. So much more skill.

  • is is real that F1 looked MUCH faster in the "old days"??

  • That's nice driving by Schumacher. He would have been a much better driver if he hadn't made some bad moves against other drivers.

  • A story from my driving teacher, dunno if it is true. In 91 Michael first tested in Spa although he didn't know the track. During the tests his times already were very good and then he asked the team: Should I go closer to the limit now?

The team didn't believe their ears.

  • @Killerkarpfen1990 Before Michael Schumacher got in that car he had been around Spa... on a bicycle.

  • @thrillathakilla 300 Km/h on a bicycle is fun :D

  • ah yes...the good old days!

  • this was the time when schumacher had the bit between his teeth!

  • if this track had the same old sand traps today....half of the field will be out of the race....seriously, some of today's racers are not fit to drive an F1 car. If you make a mistake, you have to be punished. Bring back the old sand traps

  • 0:25

even in my racing games, i never understood what they were saying!

  • They RUINED the cars in 1998, and things got worse and worse. Watching an onboard today puts me to sleep. And the cars look terrible narrow.

  • @ilferrari oh wtf u are annoying

  • @ilferrari agreed and also if this track had the same old sand traps today....half of the field will be out of the race....seriously, some of today's racers are not fit to drive an F1 car. If you make a mistake, you have to be punished. Bring back the old sand traps like jackie stewart said

  • Spa rest the best track, and to me should call 'THE TRACK'. Unlucked indeed, many circuit are now reducts in kart tracks. The F1 should be risk, hight speed and spectacolous, true spectacolous. And circuit longer between 6-7 9-10 km. The cars are now very, incredible seife, only an wrong build circuit can put risk for the security of drivers. And Engine V10! at unanimum decision...

  • BURN IT WITH FIRE!

  • Wow Eddie Jordan commentated back then? And i thought it was a new thing.

  • @AlexGRFan97

    That's John Watson mate

  • fisichella was the greatest!

  • Bus Stop, we miss you.

  • it was a V12 engine?

  • @carnabyst i think it's a V10 engine

  • F1 is slowly destroying all of these brilliant circuits :-(

  • @KINGOSWALD oh yes...:(

  • bring back these engines...the new ones are so boring

  • this was the last year of the wide track car with 2 meters width, after 1998, they had it at 1.8 m and raised the front wing.

  • Bring back the cars of 1997! The cars of today are too narrow and underpowered.

  • @ANDYB1478 It would be interresting if they brought back the V12 engines, because they do produce a lot of power, but they are much bigger then a V8 and V10. So the cars would make the fast tracks seem faster and the slow tracks seem slower because of the added weight and power. Also, they wouldn't be able to use the big defuser on the back because of the bigger engine, making the car more lively. The only drawback is the higher cost of the engines...

  • Look at the entry to the bus stop, he runs over the kerb and takes the pin at the apex... I would love to see the following lap, I;m sure it's not there! :-D

  • I just LOVE his driving style :)

  • I can't believe he was tipping Schumacher for the title the Williams was a much better car that year. Even Schumacher in his prime couldn't have made the deficit up on that awesome Williams.

  • Wow, I want to see a race live.. Look at my “Danner video” in my channel and learn how you can win a trip to F1 season final in Abu Dhabi.

  • the car looks on the edge

  • Senna and Schumacher.

    ...The Titans of F1.

  • spa isnt the same with out the bus stop.......

  • When did traction control come into place in F1?

  • @Claymore2408: About 1991, 1992 and then again in 2001 (from Spanish GP on).

  • villeneuve`s a nascar fuck. michael deserved 1997 championship title so much more than that wanker jacques , for rides like in 1997 spa-franchorcamps and monte carlo

  • @indauja12 if it helps, what exactly has Jacques done since 1997? jack shit. Jacques only won the title that year being with Williams when they had their short dominance in F1.

But Schumi DID ram himself into Jacques which was awfully similar to what he did to Damon Hill years earlier.

  • @tubeyouviewer1984 you have to remember that Jacque went to BAR honda... that was the worst mistake of his life.

  • MS onboard in that period - without TC and all that rubbish is just stunning. The F310B and MS onboard is about as good as it gets!

  • Today the ''bus stop'' chicane is much more different... Also the starting line changed to between the hairpin and eau rouge

  • @Barnakos The F1 start is still the same. That other start straight and pit complex is for other catagories, not sure what.

  • @Barnakos I can't believe they even call it a bus stop. It doesn't have the design of a bus stop, it should be called a chicane.

  • Slightly off-topic, but what the hell did Fisichella do to be faster than a Williams?

I know that he and Ralf showed impressive things in 1997 in the Jordan, kind of weird how he never really progressed from that period 97-98..

  • Who are the commentators?

  • @Anime998877 I only heard one enough to tell - John Watson, 70s & 80s F1 driver.

  • @CodeTwo2

A little late but thank you.

  • I love the old busstop

  • anda torri

  • you cant drive eau rouge in the 1990´´s fltout

  • Hi MSx91: Michael and Ayrton was 1991 the onliest who drove flat out in eau rouge and the last corner before busstop. The telemetry dates was very clearly. But rethink Ayrton has experience and Schumacher was first time on his live on this track! You know what i mean? The Jordan 91 was a great car with great aerodynamics but the brave German drove both critical turns flat out!! Thomas

  • @samothsamothsamoth Good thing that you're pointing out. I didn't know that actually. During that weekend, Schumacher already was faster than his team-mate, de Cesaris, in all sessions. Also in the secttors that de Cesaris had driving problems, Michael knows how to deal with those.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @MSx91 everyone does blanchimont (thats the name of the corner combo before the busstop chicane)flat out...there is no other way to do those corners...

even back in those days, eau rouge how ever is an other story

thats only the last couple of years that everyone goes flat out on that corner

today the corner where the men are sepparated from the boys is pouhon(or as we belgian people call it, the double lefthander)

  • @samothsamothsamoth difference was the jordan was probs alot slower in a straight line. i mean flat outs great but when 'flat out' is 70mph it aint as ipressive lol (yes, i know the figures aret exactly right)

  • @leemyster2 flat out at 170-180 mph is though

  • @samothsamothsamoth Well, going flat out through Eau Rouge and Blanchimont is not only up to being brave. If they hadn't had enough grip, they would crash or at least loose time. Maybe they were the bravest of cars with the more grippy setups, but their brave would be nothing without grip. Have you got any info about Michael's and Ayrton's Vmax in comparision to the others? I'm a big Senna fan, but I want to be realistic. Peace.

  • @sivshy Since F1 is banning the F-duct system starting in 2011, are teams still going to have the shark fin design on the cars?

  • @tubeyouviewer1984 No KERS is returning for 2011.

  • @tubeyouviewer1984 O you mean just the shark fin design... They may just have that extra piece of material running through the rear wing I dont think it will be a problem as long as it doesn't stall the air to the rear wing.

  • this was the formula 1...:'(

  • i think it is not horrible to watch. it is simply beautiful how he drives that car.

  • its amazing how good he control that pig car of john banard!

  • Last chicane has been removed. I prefered THIS version of Spa track

  • @Nighthawk19640

The very last part of the track should be chicane-free actually, but the one they use now is nonsense. Old Bus Stop was way better.

  • @Nighthawk19640 and me not !

  • look at that car sliding around, so horrible to watch, even harder to control.

  • That's what Schumacher is known for though. He's got an incredible feel for the "limit" and can make more corrections in mid-corner than most other drivers...

  • lol, this was a 3.0 litre v10 !!!

  • 0:16 perfect driving just beyond the limit, incredible...

  • I wonder if John has bets riding on Michael to win the 2010 title :-)

  • It's Pouhon / Not poohole by the way

  • The best ever!!!

I hope SCHUMI comes back this season with the new Mercedes team!!!!!

The F1 become soooo BORING without a kind of driver like him!!

  • @windi1982 he is back!

  • Schumacher is the best driver in the F1!!!

    (Senna in the World)

    Jenson Button Sucks

  • Yes, really this time F1 was a good time .. 1996-2000 were with this beautiful type of car ...

  • yeah I hate the rear wings of 2009 cars.

  • I hate the front! They're like freakin snow plows!

  • wow men. my favourite version of the F1 cars. they were SO beautiful in those days. now they're big machines looking ugly. also my favorite track.

cant believe the engine... i would listen to it for 24hs a day... just AMAZING! thanks for posting this

  • @blinker4u yeah and actually now they are easier to drive than before

  • yeah, also safety is now improved, what imo takes away some little piece of "courage"

best cars between 96-2000... good old days

  • That was perfect drivingon the edge

  • lovely sound but i think the ferrari 310 from 1996 which had a low nose looked fuggin awesome

  • this kind of cars are the cars i think about when somebody stells something about formula one.

  • My God I miss the good old days: Schumi was active and the cars were cool as hell.

  • bring back the bus stop

  • I totally agree. Nothing challenging about that chicane nowadays...

  • @GELisherenotqueer - surely not, really? honestly, how about you tell me what was so great about the old bus stop? it was just another corner, nobody could overtake there, nothing interesting ever happened there.

i remember vividly in the early-2000s, people were whinging about the bus stop, wanting it to be changed. along comes 2004 and they give us the new bus stop which gave us overtaking and incidents. but no, we want to old one back... oh my god, i just don't understand nostalgia.

  • @FormulaOneFan4Eva It's true. Some are stuck thinking old things are always better. F1 has worked to improve tracks over the years. And it's worked; I think the whole track is better now, just because of the new bus stop.

  • My god how fast the track was then!

  • There's one chicane that's changed...

  • bien plus spectaculaire que les f1 d'aujourd'hui!!

  • old curcuit was twice as long!

  • esto si que eran formulas 1 y no lo que hay ahora!!!!

  • yeah, it's the old bus stop chicane, nice!

  • it sounds like john watson calls pohon corner poo hole hahhahaha

  • epic circuit

  • ese sonido es impresionante

  • I'm disappointed that he's called off his comeback

  • i thought Ferrari said he was 2 unfit to return

  • I think he never wanted to come back. He's retired, no longer has to risk his life in a racecar, and then he would replace another driver crashed heavily the weekend before?? It would be like asking Nigel Mansell "Hey, Ayrton died when crashing our car, wanna replace him?"

  • Well, that is exactly what they did back in 1994: call Nigel back.

He couldn't at first, because he had Indycar races to do, but later in the season he competed at 4 races for Williams.

  • Massa's accident was a freak accident so I don't think he would be thinking about it in any other way than the other drivers, i.e. 'it's not going to happen to me'. Besides I think he's putting himself in danger by driving motorcycles which might even be more dangerous than F1 in many ways. But yeah, he's retired. If Ferrari wouldn't have put the idea in his mind he would've probably never wanted to return. The rumours about him still wanting to come back are probably nothing more than rumours.

  • I agree and disagree. To a certain extent ALL F1 drivers are competitors first. And would race in F1 for a millenium if they thought they still had the edge. Yknow what I mean these guys always want to race.

  • Sure, I think that's true for all kinds of athletes. There's lots of athletes that have retired while they've still been in their prime more or less but after a while the positive of not having to get up early in the morning to practice etc has been outweighed by the fact that they miss competing and having a goal to aim for so they change their mind and make a comeback. If you're e.g. a football player you can always play on a lower level but no racing compares to F1.

  • same. i really wanted to see him win

  • how does he get that close to the cones?! i have a go-kart that would go no higher than 40 and i wouldnt do that! however the front and rear tires on it are different width so its harder to corner :)

  • that is why he is driving f1 and you (and me ) are not...

  • Comment removed

  • i like the sound of the V10 of F2004

  • I like Schumacher and I think he won GP Europe :) But why Bernie, don't put to the F1 car's V10 engine's with no TC? V10 is a engine, no that V8 toy ;) And sorry for my English ;)

  • The argument of Max Mosley was the power of the engines was too high, with a "possible" risk of an accident.

    Silly, isn't?

  • yeah just silly if they are scared they just dont drive...

  • very silly...

  • @MSx91 Yeah that's rubbish. the 2.5 V8s today are still nearly as fast as the V10s. I think it's more to do with cost cutting.

  • risk is all they think about nowadays. Thats why every corner has a mile of run-off now. They claim that not being allowed to refuel at the pits makes more overtaking. This might be the main intetion but i still have a feeling they were tying to reduce the risk of fires in the pits and wont say it

  • Nice video listen to that engine! Commentary from John Watson.

  • Who would of thought it possible, He's back!

  • its gunna be so good seeing him race in belgium after valencia, hes gunna whip everyone and win

  • Michael Schumacher will return to drive for the next race in the place of Felipe Massa.

Info from the Michael's official page.

  • people the old bus stop was way better than the new one! answer please!!!

  • Totally agree.

  • new one is terrible..they kill every F1 circuit..

  • Spa '97 was the first F1 I ever saw at the age of 9 and have been hooked ever since. That Ferrari was a beaut. I can't decide between the '97 Ferrari and the '05 in looks.

Pininfarina is right though, just listen to that beast singing at the flat out.

  • You have to love that whole V10 era. They sound amazing. Aerodynamical and mechanical grip were ALOT different in the 90's! Things were sketchy. Aryton Senna used to drift. Had SKILL. :]

  • hahahaaaa yeah right !!!! what planet have you ben living on ?

  • what is the guy over you talking?

  • at 0:21 what a control! exiting from that low speed corner...

  • Nice Sound, beautiful Car, amazing Driver :D

    Thx for Uploading :)

  • formula 1 in the 90´s was so better

  • totally agree I also miss the beautiful sound of the v10's, they sounded awesome at full noise

  • this vid never gets old!!

  • hey

listen the song of the engine when Schumy push throttle when he leaves the final chicane

    nice song!

  • lol, thumbs up. every video needs comments like this.

  • Not in my videos. Comments like that are deleted.

    Thanks.

  • 7gears???

  • Yeah, Ferrari were the first team to have 7 gears. They started that in the late 80's/ early 90's because they also introduced the paddle shift system to F1.

    Cool, eh

  • Looking back to the late-90's car, I find them so beatiful, much more than today's car.

  • You are absolutely right

  • i miss the v10s and the tobacco advertsing.

  • haha i know, well Marlboro still have rights to Ferrari livery but yer...not that i condone smoking but F1 is not F1 anymore. Someone needs to overthrow Bernie and Max. Let FOTA run :D

  • ...and the old Tag Heuer timming :)

  • Haha, compare these cars to last years cars. BIG change. Hell, even this years cars are really different.

  • grow up

  • MS was born for Formula 1

  • I agree mate.

  • Great vid. Really disappointing the bus stop chicane was changed. The cars look so good in '97, especially the Ferrari.

  • The F1 cars had changed very much in 12years..

  • technology+cars= future

  • Michael would have been far more dominant without driver aids. Also if slick tires were allowed during the entire length of his career as opposed to just a few, then his dominance would have been even more so, he was always ultra fit and was least effected by the massive g-load that F1 cars used to achieve with slicks. It was almost impossible he wouldn't even have a bead of sweat on him after a race when other drivers on the podium were close to total exhaustion

  • i know did you see nico rosberg on the podium he looked like he was about to die

  • since all the drivers always had the same conditions i cant agree. i mean he was absolutely dominating, got the title year after year. driver aids dont make you a better driver, an average driver finds maybe a 1/10 in some corner, but a good driver finds at least 2/10 then because of driver aids. but you cannot compare anybody to him, his not even human his brain is just a 4.4L v16 engine with a chipped CPU brother believe me i know what im saying i saw it !!! ;-P

  • He's on the limit all the time, this is what makes him better then anyone else!

  • I'd be afraid of something crossing like the track down there ahead of me, oh shoot, its a kitty..... Or worse yet a course worker, oh man I've seen em stretched...

Those cars do pull amaaaazingly hard dont they, oh man, that would take some getting used to. I have a great deal of the driver mechanics in my mind, but man thats gotta make you swallow your tongue till you get used to it. oh my...

  • no run-off, old bus stop, wonderful

  • this is how u drive an f1 car on the raged edge not consrvativly like wht they say today when u go out on the track u drive throw it around the track an if u break it after the race so be it

  • Part of the problemtoday is that when the FIA got rid of slicks the cars were harder to slide and push like Schumacher is doing here. That will be fixed for this season at last.

The second is the rules on engines and gearboxes having to last for more than one race, so they have to be more sympathetic to the cars mechanics now as well.

Even Schumacher, after the rule changes, conserved the car whenever he could.

  • now type in elmuggy productions

  • No traction control only the talent..

  • the real F1

  • is it just me or do the tires look really tiny? also, it looks like a junior formula car. Maybe like a Formula Renault. But the engine noise is pretty good.

  • It's because in 1997 the cars were 20cm wider than in 1998 and after. The tires just look tinyer because the car is bigger.

  • This is why Michael gets the big bucks...

  • handling might have been horrid without tcs!

  • thts why it makes f1 better

  • Absolutely effortless

  • i forgot how poor the new v8 engine sound compared to the v10s should bring them

  • wow. his driving line was near perfect.

  • poskakal

  • what is the top speed of that car

  • Depends mate, they're only limited by the track mostly. Generally speaking theres not a track where they have to go faster then 320kph (200mph) in the last few years. All lap times are improved by braking, acceleration and mostly conering speed. I think it was Honda in 2003 took their car onto a salt plain in Nevada and got it to 460kph in race spec but that was just for the cameras more then anything.

  • there is one track they go faster than 200,its indianapolis. i was just wondering how fast the car went on the straights in that vid.

  • According with the F1 official page, in the Kemmel straight the cars reach the 330 km/h, so, the F310 B maybe reach that speed, or more, it had a V10 engine, without RPM limiter.

  • dude...in monza f1 cars reach nearly 350kph...

  • Yes, but he were asking about the top speed in Spa-Francorchamps. In Monza, is clearly higher than here.
