I remember Carole as one of my fellow college students in Midland, Michigan at that time. When she won this, we very proud of her. She came to our campus a few months later and it was awesome to have her there as Miss USA.

@amindr Now they travel alot together, but back then Miss USA and Miss Universe had for the most part entirely different travelling schedules. Miss USA from 1984 to 1991 was under contract with the JC Penney company and spent 100 days out of her reign making appearances @ stores all across the USA in return for her prizes from them. Also, she made appearances on behalf of P&G. Miss Universe did make appearances for P&G, but for the most part they had two separate schedules.

i think South Carolina should have won. Carole is just fine. It irony she was 1st runner-up in MU but Gretchen who's better than her was only 2ndRu.. Anyway, Gretchen looks stunning until to her farewell though she could have use a better fashion-forward gown.

You're referring to the Miss 1992 World America Pageant, which ran nationally once. Sharon Belden (Miss Florida USA 1992 as well) won that title. Karin Meyer from Alaska, who was in the top 6 here, was first runner-up at that pageant.

I thought the most beautiful contestant was Elizabeth Seaback(sp?).. but i am usually partial to the PA contestants.. but she was beautiful.. she was a host on QVC or Home Shopping for a while. most of those girls in the top ten had been in USA i think. Just a tidbit of Miss USA pageant information.The dress that Carole won in wasn't the original dress she arrived in Wichita,Ks to compete in. She quickly had to change dress selections when it was discovered that she & pageant judge Jackie Joyner-Kersee had chosen the exact same dresses to wear on pageant night. Take a look at Jackie's dress on the judge's panel; that was the gown Carole had chosen to wear during Evening Gown competition on pageant night.
Jayne only made Top 15,, she did NOT make Top 5,, the first African American girl to crack the Top 5 was in 1972 when Alberta Philips became first runner-up.
Jayne was NOT the first African girl to crack the Top 15. The first time was Corrine Huff in 1960 who also came from Ohio like Jayne.
