I actually saw a sports science episode where they tested which sport hits harder rugby with no pads, or American football with pads. And full speed hits with pads was still way more stressful on the body then most rugby tackles with out pads. People who say you wear pads so you're pansies are just ignorant fools. There have been 497 fatalities in AF due to severe collision injuries from 1945 to 1999 in all levels of football (amateur, HS, college and pro). 69% were from brain injuries, 16% were from cervical spine injuries and 15% other injuries. The number of fatalities after 2000 have been reduced because of improvement in padding protection. Again theres a reason they wear helmets and pads.

@intricicy mate pretty much only line backers and d-line has to tackle, they're much more professionalised at tackling, they dont need to worry about running the ball, kicking the ball not even really catching the ball. Rugby players on the other hand, have to run the ball, tackle, kick, catch. They obviously cant hit harder as they dont spend all their time practicing tackling. Ever heard of division of labour? why don't we see a quarterback tackling a defensive tackle?
@intricicy all rugby players have to both run and tackle and the play doesnt stop every couple of seconds. you get 1 break at half time and thats it, you need to do everything for 40 minutes with only a couple of breaks then do it again for another 40. i doubt there would be many NFL players that could play a full 80.

A buddy of mine from nzl played rugby league and hes not ignorant like people like you. Hes a big raiders fan and doesnt talk trash about football players because in his words "hes never played the game". If a police officer doesnt wear his vest a gunshot to the chest would kill him, if 220-240lbs with fast closing speed launching his whole body into another human being it could be fatal. I guess america should apologize for actually caring about our athletes safety.

There have been 497 fatalities in AF due to severe collision injuries from 1945 to 1999 in all levels of football (amateur, HS, college and pro). 69% were from brain injuries, 16% were from cervical spine injuries and 15% other injuries. The number of fatalities after 2000 have been reduced because of improvement in padding protection. Again theres a reason they wear helmets and pads.

These guys are specialist at their position so their hits are controlled they know how fast they can close in, some of these guys love to hit and know how to hit with the most amount of force as possible and thats at both ends, defenders have to keep their head on a swivel because they could get blindsided by a blocker at anytime. Thats not uncontrolled thats how the game is played.

@intricicy I play rugby and football. Rugby is way more of a physical toll in endurance. Pain has to go to football. Rugby doesn't need pads because you dont hit as hard. Football, I personally am able to hit way harder. 23 pancakes in 4 games so far. <3 Love this game

@intricicy mate pretty much only line backers and d-line has to tackle, they're much more professionalised at tackling, they dont need to worry about running the ball, kicking the ball not even really catching the ball. Rugby players on the other hand, have to run the ball, tackle, kick, catch. They obviously cant hit harder as they dont spend all their time practicing tackling. Ever heard of division of labour? why don't we see a quarterback tackling a defensive tackle?

@intricicy all rugby players have to both run and tackle and the play doesnt stop every couple of seconds. you get 1 break at half time and thats it, you need to do everything for 40 minutes with only a couple of breaks then do it again for another 40. i doubt there would be many NFL players that could play a full 80.
