@movitmovit The '94 went to the rangers because of Richter but honestly Linden deserved it more than Messier. It was a nail biter down to the last goal and last second. This year's run was good as well but they imploded game 7. It was a joke but that's no reason for the riot in Vancouver; Human nature, right? I digress. As for Bure, no one was like him at that time in terms of skill and speed. Imagine the rules now in place during his prime, no one would be able to touch him.
@CrashTestSnoopy i liked the '94 run better than the one this year, but that could have been the age i was at.
the way that they lost this time through was just so disappointing with the melt downs and all of the bullshit that came after game seven. i actually stopped being a fan for a few days until i got over my anger at those people. if you've ever seen the vid where the guy was trying to defend his truck from getting fire-bombed and they all jumped him and beat the shit out of him. scum.

So Linden gets his number retired because he did a lot of good things off the ice? Bure's performance on the ice is ignored during jersey retirement talk? Sorry, I disagree with this approach. Both players did great things off the ice with fans. I think Bure was the unsung hero off the ice and Linden was the better politician. Bure answered tons of fan mail with hand-written responses. Great job. We totally need a player like this again. Canucks may go into playoffs this year, but it will never be like 94! that was the best of times.
I gotta say, I am a huge Ovie fan, but this guy is on another planet. I don't think anyone has the ability to single-handedly dominate in today's NHL as he did....if he was up for it.
@MBergeron104 HAHAHA, you think Goalies are better because there's nobody fast and skilled like Bure in the NHL now. I'm not comparing the two, you can't... However, Bure was first and I'm sure one of the reasons goalies are as good as they are is from studying all the flaws of the goalies back then. I had never seen a player play hockey like Pavel Bure did, and I have yet to see one since. There are some great players today but there will always only be one original, after whom other players have patterned their game. Snipers today refer to watching him as they were ascending through the ranks, especially Europeans such as Ovechkin, Malkin, and Gaborik. Even Crosby said that he wanted to pattern his skating and acceleration after Bure.
@TheRaunchyTofu Your 'bang on' with your comment! Alot of canuck fans, the city itself, and the ownership seem to have forgotten what they did and say about this person which ended up with him moving. He loved the team, his team mates and playing for pat quinn. They jerked him around come contract time and made him out to be the bad guy.
i met this guy back in toronto in 97 or 98 i believe, i told him in my hockey team they call me "the native rocket" he laughed and signed my card to the native rocket from the russian rocket, that was awesome, but i lost it when we moved, at 2:31 was my first canuck game i watched, isnt that the same game where kirk maclean made that sliding save and more thing bure reminds me of that colonel landan from inglorious basterds
I hate to admit it, but in this video Pavel Bure looks even better than Guy Lafluer, he looks like a hybrid of Mario Lemuix and Yvan Cornoyer, A leathal combination of brilliant stick handling ability combined with lightning fast skating, hard if not impossible to beat a combination like that.
@antikimbo I quit flowing hockey(at least closely) in the mid-eighties, I'd heard of Bure but until I watched these clips I didn't know just how brilliant he was, truly breathtaking.
Personally for me Bure is much more skilled forward then Ovechkin despite I'm a die-hard Ovechkin fan. Bure is my favorite player of my childhood and I think that's forever... I miss him.
Jeez just imagine him working in a league where the defenseman can't act like an ice sled and ride him from the blueline in........I tend to think he would be setting new records

I REALLY HOPE HE MAKES THE HOCKEY HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! russian rocket. FTW! just look at this vid and others. he raped all the d-men in those days in the puck dead era. Oh if only his knee didnt give out. >:(
the best. he could've destroyed anybody one on one with his just his greatest quality: his speed. he would either dangle them shitless or, if they're really good at checking, wear them down with his speed.
in the 90´s the goalies start to play in the butterfly style and became a lot better than earlier. and also have in mind that the rules are different. this days are you not allowed to hook or hold players, in the 90´s there where defenceman who made their careers just by play like that.
bure is one of the most effective goalscorers ever.
pavel bure had his career in the 90´s when nhl was much more defensive than it is today an back in the 80´s. if bure had played in todays nhl he had for sure scored at least 65-70 goals in a season. you can´t compare player´s that play´s now and the guys who played in the 90´s.
i watched his games while i was living in vancouver 15 years ago. since then, i moved and i wondered how he was doing lately, like, which team he went to if he was still playing NHL or what he was doing if he was not playing at all.
@iceman168888 He's been out of the league almost 10 years now. I think he was traded to the Rangers and finally ended up playing in Florida where injuries forced him to retire.
@Shewchuk he is just as good as scoring (76 goals in a season) which is more then bure ever had and his puck handling is awesome. He is also more physical.

i met this guy back in toronto in 97 or 98 i believe, i told him in my hockey team they call me "the native rocket" he laughed and signed my card to the native rocket from the russian rocket, that was awesome, but i lost it when we moved, at 2:31 was my first canuck game i watched, isnt that the same game where kirk maclean made that sliding save and more thing bure reminds me of that colonel landan from inglorious basterds

I hate to admit it, but in this video Pavel Bure looks even better than Guy Lafluer, he looks like a hybrid of Mario Lemuix and Yvan Cornoyer, A leathal combination of brilliant stick handling ability combined with lightning fast skating, hard if not impossible to beat a combination like that.
tnortonflynn 1 year ago
@tnortonflynn goal scoring wise only Richard, Gretzky and lemeiux were better.
this guy was putting nearly 60 goals in dead puck era with fucked up knees even then.
antikimbo 1 year ago
@antikimbo I quit flowing hockey(at least closely) in the mid-eighties, I'd heard of Bure but until I watched these clips I didn't know just how brilliant he was, truly breathtaking.

Personally for me Bure is much more skilled forward then Ovechkin despite I'm a die-hard Ovechkin fan. Bure is my favorite player of my childhood and I think that's forever... I miss him.

Jeez just imagine him working in a league where the defenseman can't act like an ice sled and ride him from the blueline in........I tend to think he would be setting new records

He faster than everyone else even in slow motion
carlmelanson1 1 year ago 2
the best. he could've destroyed anybody one on one with his just his greatest quality: his speed. he would either dangle them shitless or, if they're really good at checking, wear them down with his speed.

Comparing stats is what people who know nothing about hockey do, but either way, Bure is one of the greatest all time.

in the 90´s the goalies start to play in the butterfly style and became a lot better than earlier. and also have in mind that the rules are different. this days are you not allowed to hook or hold players, in the 90´s there where defenceman who made their careers just by play like that.
bure is one of the most effective goalscorers ever.
bjornwaring 1 year ago 3
pavel bure had his career in the 90´s when nhl was much more defensive than it is today an back in the 80´s. if bure had played in todays nhl he had for sure scored at least 65-70 goals in a season. you can´t compare player´s that play´s now and the guys who played in the 90´s.

i watched his games while i was living in vancouver 15 years ago. since then, i moved and i wondered how he was doing lately, like, which team he went to if he was still playing NHL or what he was doing if he was not playing at all.
iceman168888 1 year ago
@iceman168888 He's been out of the league almost 10 years now. I think he was traded to the Rangers and finally ended up playing in Florida where injuries forced him to retire.

@supercooled other way around he was very good on florida for a few seasons then ended in new york.

ovechkin is the better player bigger and stronger.
themetalgod21 1 year ago
@themetalgod21 ovechkin is also slower, not as good at stick handling or at scoring goals
Shewchuk 1 year ago
@Shewchuk he is just as good as scoring (76 goals in a season) which is more then bure ever had and his puck handling is awesome. He is also more physical.
themetalgod21 1 year ago
@themetalgod21 I don't think Ovechkin's ever scored 76 goals in one season in the NHL o.o
Perazn 1 year ago
@Perazn Neither has Bure?
ilikehockey13 1 year ago
