Ironic those circumstances (check those 1962 release dates), that I was out of gas, that that was the time I chose to try the new cash pump option, that that was the song playing, that some joker would ask why it took so long to pump $20, that the uncanny circumstances would go right over someone's head. That the world has changed and is showing its colors with self-satisfied pompous remarks that mean nothing, that people are ready to bite off your finger, rather than look where your'e pointing.
@Reasonwillwin Took that long because I chose to use the cash machine for the first time to avoid the line up. Normally I pumped my gas first, then payed at the drive up window with a debit card or in cash. But I was reading the directions and was trying to figure out if I had to use the whole twenty or could get change. The read out suggested I could put more money in if I wanted more gas but said nothing about getting change back. So yes it took just that long as I was listening to this song.

Ironic those circumstances (check those 1962 release dates), that I was out of gas, that that was the time I chose to try the new cash pump option, that that was the song playing, that some joker would ask why it took so long to pump $20, that the uncanny circumstances would go right over someone's head. That the world has changed and is showing its colors with self-satisfied pompous remarks that mean nothing, that people are ready to bite off your finger, rather than look where your'e pointing.

@Reasonwillwin Took that long because I chose to use the cash machine for the first time to avoid the line up. Normally I pumped my gas first, then payed at the drive up window with a debit card or in cash. But I was reading the directions and was trying to figure out if I had to use the whole twenty or could get change. The read out suggested I could put more money in if I wanted more gas but said nothing about getting change back. So yes it took just that long as I was listening to this song.

What are the odds of those things happening in the same day? It ranks as one of the strangest coincidences ever. The song played as I pumped the gas. When I was done pumping, the song finished. It was the only song I heard. And I drove away from the pump wondering what it all meant. Now I have the History channel on in the background and they are talking about gas pumps on American Pickers. What will tomorrow bring?

This happened today: After looking up Carnival of Souls and finding the release date was 62' (same as this song), and writing what I wrote, feeling more than a little bit creepy that it was the same as my birth year, I had to go to work. So I'm out of gas and I need to stop at my usual quickmart and I decide to try the no.6 gas pump machine and fed it a $20 dollar bill. They play nothing but oldies tunes there and I hear a familiar song starting. Then I say to myself, no way, it was this song...

Yeah, it's great because it's a little spooky. Here's something else that might blow your mind. The thing that's been nagging the back of my mind, since I made that comment about reminding me of Carnival of Souls: Skeeter Davis with that blonde hairstyle looks alot like Candace Hilligoss in that movie! And the song and the movie were released the same year, 1962! (The same year I was born). My teeth are chattering as my skin crawls as I've got shivers on my goosebumps on my hair standing on end!

Fantastic true crossover classic! It doesn't matter what genre you try to label this as. It's just great by sheer sweet sincerity. We just don't get this simple, heartfelt delivery any more.
