This is from a PBS series on African American religion called "This Far By Faith." It was produced by Blackside Productions -- the same company that created the legendary series on the Civil Rights Movement "Eyes on the Prize."
This series is hard to find now, but libraries should have it and you may be able to buy copies on the internet. I agree, it's a wonderful series. What you are watching is an excerpt from part 1 of the multi-part series. Part 1 is called "There is a River."
OMG! I've been looking for that 'So Sweet' song for years & found it completely fortuitously the very night I'd given up hope! There must be a a God somewhere! Thank God for Youtube! =D
I LOOOOVE this documentary b/c it teaches the history of the African/African American religion of where it derived from!!! It is soo important to teach this to OUR people and the young generation; especially the young generation! Many people do not know that the Holy Ghost is derived from the Ring Shout which is why many African Americans have this today! I would loove to know where this video is from! Thank you very much for posting this; will put this on my Facebook status for Black History!
I am coming to learn so much about my family and our Geechee culture. I was the first born in Philadelphia, PA in my family (Which is from Savannah, GA) and was alwas picked on about my accent!! My family spoke Gullah.... and so did I! It was just understood, I guess, and not spoke of or looked at as being "different". Like it wasn't a big deal. BUT IT IS!!! I am now 26 and teaching my son as well.
lol
I am learning that this is what I am and hopfully passing on the legacy.
I'm glad no one has "thumbs down" this video.

Her Gullah accent sounds a lot like the way we speak in the Caribbean. I closed my eyes and listened to her again, she sounds like one of my aunts.
