Apple now thrives off of making temperamental shit - that other companies haven't succeeded at yet - look more appealing, then 'upgrading' it giving it 'new' technology every year so that people keep buying new models.

In other words:

Apple won't make something you can't throw away, then jog down to the Apple store and grab a new one on a yearly/bi-yearly basis.
