Tre404, you're unfortunately wrong on that there always was a male/female celebrity. Just do a youtube search. I can give two examples right off the top of my head: Star Trek week with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, Tony Randall with Dick Cavett. I agree that MOST of the time they had a male/female celebrity to square off.
@raysn09 I don't think he used them to the point of giving a visual clue though. It was a very slight movement and very easy for the judges to have missed, in fairness.
The presence of the word "of" doesn't automatically disqualify the clue unless it's being used to target a specific element of a larger object. "A suit of armor" is fine; "the back of your hand" isn't.
Someone in another EP of the $25K Pyramid had "Things you Clip" for the clue. The clue given was "things from a newspaper." The contestant got the ding and apparently won, but the judges reversed it after the commercial, saying whoever has giving the clues couldn't use "Things out of a newspaper."
@mpontheair .... because the prepositional phrase "out of" was used. Strictly speaking, only lists are allowed, and when the clues become any more grammatically involved than that, they get buzzed. "Sunday newspaper coupons" followed by "a relative's newspaper obituary" (only descriptive language, no "joining" words, you see) would have been ideal.
Hot damn, where's the isolated theme music one can sample for some MCs to catch wreck on? My favorite part of the show was the flute and rim-shot bloop-bloop-bloop of the 60-second clock. Peace.
For some reason Abby Dalton and Mary Cadorette (Three's a Crowd) is the other celebrity. Why he has 2 female celebrities congratulating him is a mystery to me. Maybe Mary was on the week before and hung around to see how he would do?? She is known to be that kind of person. They used to film 2 weeks of Pyramid in one day, so maybe that is why she was still there.

I don't care if you "think" it looks like Mary Cadorette or not, it is. I saw the episode and Dick Clark mentioned the fact that it was Abby Dalton and Mary Cadorette. Watch it again and you will realize it IS Mary Cadorrette! It is SO obviously her!
This is from very early in the CBS 25K run - you can tell by the color of the trilons - 1982. Three's a Crowd didn't premiere until 1984, and Mary Cadorette was not on TV before then. It's not her.

@yrralla ...seriously, the guy WHO WAS THERE is right... "Pyramid" ALWAYS pairs contestants with one male and one female celebrity. Never two celebrities of the same gender. (Although the may have made an exception for Henry J. Polic... lol.)
@Tre404 Not every week of "Pyramid" had one male and one female celebrity. In fact, on several occasions in the older 70s edition, they had both celebrities be of the same gender (ex.; Billy Crystal & Sal Viscuso, William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy).
Interesting clips you have here, but what's also interesting is being on a pair of celebrity-assisted game shows with half of the Bob Newhart Show cast.
The celebrity actually used his hands a little bit. Watch during the "What a Lobster Would Say" category when he says "I have big claws." I guess the judge
i did notice that; also on "Things In Roulette" one of his clues was "Alot of numbers" which I thought was a illegal clue (too descriptive)--The black numbers, the red numbers are fine
Talk about excitement!! Dick was right, you were so good you'd think your chair was faced the other way. That was the best I've seen anyone do, and believe me when I tell you I've seen my fair share of Pyramid. Way to Go!!!
dude- you rocked this round.

With 0:42 left on the clock when he's giving the clue about the lobster, he uses his hands, that is an automatic buzz.

The Board's boxes are blinking like they had them do in John Davidson's second season. One row on at a time.

You probably don't like the Donny Osmond version of this show do you. It was okay, but I thought Dick Clark did it way better.

The celeb said a "A lot of numbers" for the clue on the Roulette trilon. ILLEGAL CLUE! NO PREP PHRASES! Should have been buzzed!
southernfratdude 3 years ago
This was discussed before. Phrases with the word "of" they allowed.

"A lot of numbers" is not a prepositional phrase. In order for their to be a prepositional phrase their must be a preposition.
musicmikey2 3 years ago
Might want to brush up on grammar; "of" is the preposition in that prepositional phrase and "their" is possessive.

Yeah right, and I guess that was Bob Newhart you won with and not Peter Bonerz.
Give me a break. If that's not Mary Cadorette than you have a REALLY REALLY bad memory!

how come the trilons blink one row at a time instead of building all the way to the top then all going off at once?

Because they were malfunctioning - they did that every once in a while - good win on the show, though! Bet Dick Clark was a nice guy to meet!

"Of" is a preposition and prepositional phrases are not allowed on Pyramid.

I think this is from a very early episode of the $25K CBS run (judging by the set), so the rule may not have been implemented yet.
