From the first note on it sounds like shit & it only picks up until the horns kick in. Digital technology completely ruined all music. Nothing compared to the original versions despite the horn section trying its best.
No where near the same. Terry with Peter. Before '77. I'm family (close) and I agree. I grew up in the house where they practiced in before they "made it". I love these guys. The new ones- not so much. I sat on the stage while they played. That was the great stuff.
Tris should have came in with the high hat at :49 , three hits per second paying some homage to Chicago IV Introduction live at carnegie, ... Dawayne Bailey was awsome with Chicago!
@pbrick6301 HEY BUDDY, its attitudes like that that caused this music to come into being..... your full of shit, because theres no law against free speech and the 1st ammendment....stay far away , peferably in your squad car.
Bill Champlin SUX! Chicago should never cover a TK vocal song, they ought to stick to the Bill Champlin school of wanking off on power ballads. This is the worst rendition of Free i've ever heard!
I agree, only that the "rhythm gitar" doesn't really suck, the rythmn gitar seems to be omited all together leaving a bass and a big gap. at least Lamb is still with them but straining it.
DIZZYPHAN you should post your band on utube so we all can see what you got. but in regards to terry kath, i think the 'heart and soul' died when he died. jimmy hendricks said that terry was a better guitar player than he was!
dizzyphan thats funny. i love bill champlin, i think he is talented,BUT there are just some songs that dont suit him and you're right they need a 'lower soulful voice'. alot of people thought terry kath was black, they could never mistake 'bc' of being that!
ive always thought bill champlins voice sounded like willie nelson thats why i liked him,but you're right he should NOT be doing terry kath songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listened to and Loved Chicago since 1967...even played in a couple of Chicago cover bands for several years in the '70's. Love the band, but sorry, guys, Walt is a good musician but definitely not a good improviser. That's why you notice most of the horn solos being played by Lee or Jimmy. Having said that, it wouldn't be Chicago without Walt, so rock on, Walt...
Hey thanks for posting this. I think the moniker Walt was branded with was unfair. Walt is f--king tough...i know they resurrected this song and so gladly so. BC did a great job on it, and Jason whaled....Bobby did his best Sly impression....Really it's a great song and they did and still do it well. It was good to see DeWayne again. They have truly had a great run of guitar players. This will always be one of my 3 most fav. Chicago songs. Rock on dudes. :)
This is cool. But, this is the new take on Free that Chicago has been playing in concert ever since, with a straight groove, that, sorry, kinda drags. Check out the 1974 performance from the Rockies TV show here where the band, led by the amazing Danny Seraphine on drums truly smokes.
What a great performance of Free! 1994 was the first year for the current version of Free that is performed in concert. This tour also featured "Caravan" (pre Big Band release) and the full length Introduction. DaWayne just absolutly tears it up in this version.
And thank you for all of the great Chicago clips you have posted!
When you get a chance, could you post Introduction and Caravan from this show?
A stellar performance from back when CHI was a "ROCK band with horns." Keep'em coming. And Walt's solo was a good one, not that one-note thing he did a few years later.
The illustrious sound of overly produces.. overly programmed sell-outs! Aka FAKES! Thanks but, NO THANKS!

i love chicago but why the singer has to use profanity before the song while he is interacting w/ the crowd?
i am a police officer & when i hear that crap on a microphone i take the criminal right off to his new home...a jail cell.

The new guys are good musicians, but there's just no way they can match the originals, especially compared to Terry Kath.

PITIFUL...the replacements just could not perform the music Kath, Cetera and Danny could make...

A solid, professional performance--but none of the rawness, the urgency, of early Chicago. Sorry, fans of Later Chicago--it's just not there.
