So what res. are you playing at ? 1280 x 720 ? Does it look good ?

I heard the iMac can only take input at 1280 x 720 OR 2560 x 1440 - nothing in between - and since xbox / ps3 can't 2560 x 1440 it has to be the lower res.

This means, I'd be at a slightly lower res that I get from my tv now - and witih the cable I looked at (kanex) at around 150 bucks, I thought I'pd leave it.

The iMac itself just acts as a screen, no cpu power is req. i have the same adaptor which i got on ebay for £30 but i think u maybe wrong on the vid only side of things as mine does audio as well as vid (diff rev?). for those struggling make sure the ps3 is on 720p first & when its all connected up that red lights r on both ends! if not make sure the imac has the ex display enabled then disconnect the side which doesnt have the red light & plug it in again (ps3, adp & imac must be on)

EDID from Apple iMac 27" shows that the display only allows 2 resolution input support which is 2560x960 and 1280x720. By setting your HDMI source to 720p or 1280x720 resolution you will be able to output your content through our converter. PS3, Xbox 360 Elite, Blu-Ray players need to be set to 720p output.

If display is Apple iMac 27'' resolution of sources must be fixed on 1280x720.

@GamerscoreGreed Yes if your PC has the GPU and Dual-link DVI out to drive the iMac screen at native resolution - 2560 x 1440 - then is OK. Max res for HDMI depends on the version specification, and amount of colour information (bits per pixel), but implementation is currently the v1.3 standard, which maxes out 2560 x 1600. V1.4 is out, adds 3D capability, ethernet connect, two-way audio (return) and 2k x 4k resolution.

@Everythingtech1 According to Apple's official tech specs ,support for input from external Displayport devices is only on the 27In model, you could try the 21.5In though and see if it works. There is probably a hack of some sort out there that can get it to work.

the resolution on the imac is set to its max capacity 1080 p is 1920x1080 i have it set to 2560x1440 so at its core its already at a higher resolution then 1080p, plus its an LED screen so it looks flawless, but the down fault is that 99.99% of ps3 games push out 720p look at the back of you game boxes or inside the manuals you'll see that non the less the image is the best i have ever played in using an hdmi cable... enjoy

@wizzmetal No. This can only be achieved with the 27" iMac, as it's the only Mac supporting DisplayPort INPUT aswell as output like other Mac's. You may be able to get similar results on a 24" Cinema Display somehow.
