hi mathias, that's great playing! thanks! is that an etude you wrote youself?
are you on facebook?
by the way I represent music-marleting as you know with the Ziggy tapguitar and other instruments. i also represent now the dutch guitarcompany BO-EL bo-elguitars com check 'm out!
Most importantly, keep your action as LOW as possible, otherwise the attack is lost in the finger hitting the string. Make sure you use a guitar with frets that are in good condition, or you will get buzz - which sucks. If the frets are worn down in some places, maybe get a fret dress and polishing. Also change your strings and clean them regularly string cleaner and a cloth. Using a compressor also helps with the tone and keeps it even. Good luck
Not trying to be a wanker here, but you could to that with a pick and sound 'neater'. I like it when tapping is done freaky! to sound like two or three instruments!
So what, like I said, you could do this with a pick and it would sound neater. its not like he is playing three part harmony, just a bass note or two. do you even play guitar?
of course I play guitar asshole. If you pick the bass note it wouldn't ring as much as tapping. When you tap it and hold the note out it leaves it ringing in the background while playing the melody on top.
And of course I know about other tappers doing freaky stuff. This song isn't meant to sound freaky, its supposed to sound classical.
Valid comment, however, in stuff around 40sec. his hands are at like 5th & 12th frets. You *could* play all those notes, but your left hand would be doing this hyper dance up the neck, & he can sustain the bass note (the real point of tapping) while his other hand plays in unreachable-to-the-left-hand places.
Well, yes. That is true. But you know what? You don't need to sustain it. You could either not play it or just strike it staccato. My criticism are more on this point: the loss of quality of tone/tone production/musicality does not justify sustaining a bass note here and there. This is the nature of playing the guitar. Yeah, this is nice but its not classical tone production by ten miles, nor is the tone as good as a decent jazz player produces. Whats the point of bass when the top is shit?
I love your sound! a very accourated technique..I am a mexican bass player and I'm using similar techniques on bass and guitar, it's nice to know there's more people using them! regards from mexico
