I must agree with those people who like this version...personally I think it's the BEST....as always MARR is over the top!!!!!this LIVE version highlights MARR in a straightforward restrained fashion....the guitar parts are devilishly held back while still allowing Marr's talent to occupy center stage!!! NOT ONE overplayed riff....excellent job!!!...xxzeon (g e z) NME critic
Justin beiber needs to take notes from the smiths! Matter of fact, maybe all of today's music should seeing how it all sounds like crap! The only good music I've heard this century has to be audioslave, dethclok, and not much more. 80s and 90s had the best music and today's will never come close to them! And the mood of the song doesn't always have to be about bunnies and fake teen love you beiber cockriders
why is it that every good song i listen to someone is mentioning justin bieber or someone equally shit ironically?! get over new music! on topic however this is arguably the coolest song of all time
this sucks, it's too depressing and repeat itself many times, these "musicians" should take note of how Justin Bieber or the Jonas Brothers writes their songs.
@ito123456789 Amen. The guy singing this can't even sing on the beat. Plus, the guitar cuts out eight times a second. Couldn't they afford a decent cable? And why are they covering the theme from Charmed, anyway? I guess they're too damned lazy to write their own songs.
@acr08807 plz tell me U R not serious...CHARMED////lmao...and ps: the delay/restrain/echo is purposely there....listen to anything by the SMITHS or Johnny Marr solo.............
I read somewhere that Johnny Marr was never happy with the live version and thought it sounded a bit 'thin' compared to the studio recording with all its multitracked guitar parts.
One of the best songs that came out of the 80's. I still remember waiting to see the video replay on MTV, again and again, and again !!!!! Miss those days !!!!
Anyone younger than like 35 need not comment here. This song was an anthem to the 80's and if you didn't live it, then you don't know. I've seen Morrissey live and he is amazing.
@Deb9737 I am nearly 36 but last year I was 34 and I as I've always made music my life and spent so long listening to it I think I could have safely made a fairly well informed comment before I was 35.
Thanks for all the comments with Marr being on the Right, now my next question is, then whose the other guitarist? i thought the band was a 4 piece band.
Is anyone else disturbed by how good the audio is for this clip? Did they even have video cameras with audio in '86? (joke) But seriously, this audio sounds dubbed.
Yep after a few more listens I like it MUCH better live! Rocks a bit more, the drums at the end mix it up a bit more aggressively too, wow, great stuff! Oh and wherver you come down on debating Morrisey's sexuality personally I've always respected the hell out of him for not discussing it, refusing to let it define him as man or artist. These days if you entertainers careers need a boost they just come out or claim to come out for some quick buzz. Morrisey? His art comes 1st, it's integrity.
Read how they came up with the sound for the guitar on this the 1st time (reverbed it & looped it backwards in studio). So I've always been curious how it would sound live. Well thanks to your sharing this clip I know: Fantastic! The guitar is even better live, very impressive! Toss in the fact they never used cliched "oh baby" lyrics & could be poignantly insightful (this one, girlfriend in coma) or laugh out loud funny (Stop Me) and this was a truly unique group of artists! Peace!
@philbio66 Artistic differences maybe, personality conflicts? All good things dont last forever? Dunno. Maybe they can resolve their issues and get back together for a series of concerts. We can only hope.
Thank You , Billy ( William Clemet ) Oliver the 3rd for bringing this music into my life in the late 1980s.
