  • What program did you use to edit the videos?

  • I feel for you, because my wife is chinese. She came to US with her parents when she was 14 that's like 20 years ago. So when we went to china three year ago to visit. It was a such culture shock to her. I loved it there; However, my wife hated there so much want to come back so right away. It's very good to visit China, but no good to live there.

  • @dmeiske1 I don't care too much about big cities in China. I would visit for a day or two in each big city that I visit, but my heart is in rural China. I personally feel that if you're from a developed country, it's a waste of money to visit another rural country or city. Make your dollars worth it by visiting something you most likely won't see or do ever again once you go back home and that is experience life in rural areas.

  • Nice one pal

Apart from the beggin thing haha

  • Gahhh! America has birthright citizenship. There is no such thing as American born anything. If you are American born, you are automatically given American citizenship.

  • These ppl so-called ABC are creepy. They absolutely can speak chinese, but they choose to speak in English even they are in Shanghai, just to show they are better or any sort. Creepy bounch.

  • This is was shot in 2008 before 2008 Beijing Olympics so the situation was a lot worse that it is now.

  • best video ever.

  • Awesome Vid, great perspective, thanks.

  • Byron ," Leave your hearts at home". Thats so uncool man. Its the moment to have hearts on your sleeve. The reality of the world will always creep us up but thats doesn't mean that we need to ignore the fact. There are many of us looking for comfortable life but maybe sometimes we also need to chip in and do our best. No hard feelings though. Btw, the song's really nice.

  • @tuepecto That's not me in the video, i simply made a documentary about one person's perspective in shanghai..

  • "Leave your heart at home when you come to Shanghai" I want to add something to your statement "every where in China too" Where are you live in America?

  • Hey, did anybody think about containing or editing on the profanity? What kind of examples are you setting yourself and unto the world? All that F this and F that makes its ghetto and has to go........

  • @theagent3 THIS IS YOUTUBE, go on tv if you wanna watch G rated

  • @theagent3 I didn't like cussing either.. I can tolerate it but it would have been a lot nicer if they didn't cuss so much. The cussing kind of ruined the enjoyment of watching this documentary for me.

  • A++ for this video.

had similar experience in other parts of china too.

awesome experience for an oversea born chinese who does not read and write the language.

  • Are you part of some kind of missionary? I don't think Jesus would say don't give them any change...just saying.

  • A bunch of trash! Not worth watching. They are by far the most dumb ppl I've seen.

  • I feel bad for that lazy...well I couldnt understand wat she was saying but i understood some.. becuz I'm cantonese... but it was a good video! :D

  • You could've included more insights into life in Shanghai..

  • awww..i wanna go to shanghai..wonder whether its a nice place for a student as well

  • @boonkiat7575 shanghai is good, and you will find a lot of opportunities if you wanna find a job, but for students...hmmm im not sure, cuz i think chinese educational system is bad. lol

  • Nice video bro. Where are you based in the States? My guess is NY?

  • lol this video is totally pointless.... btw the beggers in china their not that poor.... the reason u get mobbed is because these beggas are actually more well off than the average worker, they just want more money hahaha its a whole freaking industry lmao thats the chinese way ahahahaha

  • @qrfawedsq

    You racist pig.

  • dirty mouth!!

  • Hey BCproductionz Which part of China are your parents from?

  • @Rakkasans2006 Beijing and Hong Kong!

  • Yo this guy is chill.

  • good insights, i'll take note of that if i ever go to shanghai

  • American youth don't seem to be able to utter a sentence with out cussing. EXPAND your vocabulary just slightly, and people will take you more seriously.

  • Classic - Punk ABCs cursing & thinking they're cool, I see too much of this in Toronto and San Fran

If you lucky enough to NOT be in China - DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE!! Study hard, to do MBA or doctor and become successful - don't just loiter and be a useless douch punk.

  • @jg729 so you're putting thoughts in his mind now? lol. cussing is more of a habit than trying to be cool dumbass

  • Hey. I hope American Chinese can be more objective when going back to China.

As overseas Chinese, we should not have the same stereotypes that many whites or western media have.

China is not about beggars. and you know that fact.

  • what are these group of unattractive people doing in Shanghai? not even interesting to watch.

  • 那個要飯的真丟面子那大概外國人會想中國大陸滿地都是要飯的吧

  • 那个要饭的真的很丢面子那.大概很外国人会想中国大陆满地都是要饭的吧

  • fawk i felt so bad for the lady beggin. Atleast sneak her a couple $'s

  • @pwkid yo, u can try to give the money if u'll ever go to China. u'll see. What that dude said in the video are truth

  • @lilelf its not always true....i had lived in central china for 15 years...you can see those people begging for money....if you give he/she a dollar, most likely you can still walk away without being mobbed by others....but if you appear to be a foreigner, then you better stay them away...

  • @pwkid yo, u can try to give the money if u'll ever go to China. u'll see. What that dude said in the video are truth

  • @lilelf I went to China to visit family one time. Hmmm iono, I still think we as Americans can at least share $1 each to homeless people. What would that be, like $30 if he had to give $1 to each beggar? That's seriously chump change to us. One US dollar goes a far way in China. I'm sure he feels "bad as fuck" in his $100+ jacket.

  • @pwkid The boy in the video is right, you really can't give any thing to one begger, there WILL be 10 more come at you and drown you and eat you alive. I gave one mother's child some money and all of a sundden there were so many of them popped out and pulling my legs and clothes, I had to push them away, and a baby in a mother's arm slapped me almost scratched my face. It is very sad, like that boy said, you have to force yourself to not to give any money.

  • @kqclund Lololol. Ok, you said at least 10 more beggars. $1 each. ZOMGMSOMDGS that's such an astronomical amount! How will I get home? Oh, I'll just ask mommy and daddy to write me a check for $1,500. Drown you and eat you alive? MELODRAMATIC BRO NOT COOL. I'd gladly give every mother's child $1 that night.

  • This documentary is so true man

After growing up in Toronto I moved back to Shanghai to live in.

Much of what he says is true.

Nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there permanently

Beautiful city though, I love the bund.

  • i know what you are talking about.

i live most of my life in american and it really changed me. i just went back to china late mouth and i want to live there permanently

    too.

  • @pongqi lol do u comment on every chinese video

  • Nice jacekt u got;)

  • good work

  • Thank God he speaks the language.

  • the beggers seem exactly like they r in pakistan

  • i want to go to shanghai now

  • To me, the short doc was very clear. In a moment when you're having a good time enjoying the sites and culture of Shanghai comes a big downer....the beggars.

I had a similar experience when I went. Basically, do NOT give eye contact.

I loved the transitions and mundane moments. Restaurant scene was a nice set up and contrast to what happens later.

There was a lot of redundancy in the beggar scene when he said, "I feel bad...10/20/30 bums will come chasing you." I'd cut earlier.

  • i agree with the last comment about the beggars. i think you can keep in how beggars have to struggle, but u can talk about how the businessmen are hustling too not just the lower class. I mean it's hard for me to really take seriously how hard it is to live in Shanghai when the backdrop is a freaking nice ass skyscraper. maybe u can say the peeps in there gotta hustle too. like the guy said the stereotypes are "half true", i wish the other half could've been explored.

  • Hey Byron, I know you probably edited this together just to make a video out of the trip, but I would like to mention a few things because it's out on YouTube and any1 can watch it. It seems you failed to mention anything about Shanghai other than it's got beggars, which is somthin' every place in the world has. Plus a lot of foreigners will b confused when they see you guys dine in a Japanese-setting restaurant in Shanghai, China.. or rather, Shanghai of Tokyo, Japan lol u feel me? Peace yo

  • haha yeah, the japanese hot pot place might throw ppl off. it was all i had tho : P
