If you position yourself in front of the brick wall, you'll look too much like a standup comedian, so OK. Miss the books. No biggie. I'm learning that a soft focused background and a sharply focused foreground looks best. Good luck at the new place.

It's a little cramped, if you could position yourself and the camera so it doesn't look like you're right up against the side wall it would look a little better. And maybe sit back a little further from the camera.
