  • ...What a singer Ray was...

  • Jake E. Lee is one of the baddest motherfuckers ever, to be sure. No one else, that I am aware of, uses the thumb so much, especially in his soloing. Very unique. It is a shame that he kind of fell off the face of the earth after Ray died. I mean, "a fine pink mist" was good, but now he is content to play local Vegas gigs with his 3 piece band, chick drummer/singer and all>

  • BADLANDS the BEST hair-metal band!!!

  • @DMKING666 Jake is so incredibly good he'd make any band the best! \m/

  • Greatest guitarist of all time and my biggest influence. Someone should request i cover it :O

  • Jake is the best guitarist Ozzy ever had besides Randy!!! Every lick Zakk plays sounds the same. this guy is amazing

  • A última grande banda de Hard Rock!!! Ray Gillen Forever!!!

  • Ray and Badlands had there own sound like no other at any time. Maybe possibly someone was similiar but still Rays was better no ?

  • Ray Gillen.That Band Had Killer Kemestrieeee...R.I.P. Ray.Sorely Missed..See Ya Sometime...

  • GOOD SONG!!

  • Comment removed

  • GOD DAMN IT! I wish Ray Gillen (RIP BRO!) was still with us! One of THE all time sweetest voices in rock'n roll... and what a combo there with Jake E. Lee on guitar... I can't imagine a better built rock band! They are VERY under appreciated, even now.

  • Seriously? He sounds like David Coverdale, who, consequently, sounds like Robert Plant. I'd rather listen to Whitesnake.

  • Saying Coverdale sounds like Plant, is as lame as saying Dio sounds like Vince Neil - and then stuffing Gillen in there too???

    What a moron..

  • Respond to this video... this tape is in my car tape deck for 3 years running AWESOME!!!

  • Respond to this video... JAKE LEE IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BADDEST MOTHERFUCKERS EVER

  • @daemonarc .........dead on man!!!!

  • @KirkJimmy ...right on man!!!!

  • muy buena banda ...alto tema!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazon has their albums. What a group!!

  • hey can someone tell me where i can find there cd cause i can't find it anywhere thanx

  • This song does kicks ass, Ray just has to stand there & sing- he was sexy/cool especially in this video. Jake E. Lee does look hot standing against the wall to whoever said that. Badlands were better than most other hair bands.

  • btw- I Hate the term "hair metal"

  • R.I.P. Ray Gillen

    You were one badass mafucker!!!!!!

  • Amazing song!!!

  • Looking back this was a good band too bad they were catagorized in the Mtv glam metal dept...

  • man i keep listening to this song, and i had the thought that if 80s style rock had taken a cue from badlands it would have been unstoppable. this is the natural evolution from stuff like bad company and led zeppelin. everything is a bit more technical but still has a lot of soul and feel, and great bluesy guitar. and for the guy ranting about van halen, he may be an original, but which song holds up better-this or 'jump'? or maybe 'love walks in' 'jamies cryin' or 'why cant this be love'? hmm

  • The part in the beginning where Jake leans against the wall.....hot!!!!! arghhh this song is bloody immense

  • Drummers: listen to the entire Voodoo Highway CD. There's a perfect example of a drummer overplaying and killing good songs.

R.I.P. Ray Gillen. The greatest thing since Robert Plant.

  • Ahhhhh Ray Gillen......great bloody vocalsssss!!!! r.i.p

  • I was floored when I found out Jeff Martin was the singer in Racer X. A much better drummer than a singer, but thank god he joined Badlands....Great album (voodoo highway). Jake ,Where are you?

  • I love how Jake reuses that part from his solo at the Bark at the Moon tour in this song!

  • Are you talking about the start of the song?

  • no, the part at 2:48. If you the solo he does during the BATM tour, he does the same thing. :D

  • fuck this shit

  • Are you talking about this band or something else?

  • I F!!!!ing love this band!

  • me2! i saw them at a tiny club in brockton mass. it was insane i think the place held like 300 people...i can't rember i think they opened for LA guns. jake e lee is one of my fav guitarist's there drummer jeff martin was the singer from racerx sick on the drum's and a great voice

  • Jake is one of the most soulful guitar players I've ever heard

  • Nice!

    Great Music!!!

  • If everyone keeps playing guitar hero instead of picking up the real thing we're all in a world of shit. Hell the bar down the street was having guitar hero night instead of actual live music. Thank God for youtube

  • Amaziiiing!

  • Yeah I also absolutely love this band. Voodoo Highway is absolutely great album. I've always loved Jake E Lee and Ray Gillen was a great singer.

And yes, those were the days of good rock n roll. Good rock bands don't seem to exist anymore..

  • I would sell my soul to be able to go back and relive the 80's. The days when women were hot and the music was even better. Todays music sucks ass and lacks soul.

  • tower i totally feel u on that one

  • great singer great guitarist, makes me laugh when i see all the garbage music out today, those were the days, great bands, great singers, people that actually had tallent,

  • i accidently cames acroosss them looking for metal church-badlands and omg love it!!

  • I found Metal Church-Badlands the other way around haha. I love Metal Church though :]

  • Great song, Great band, possibly the best technique that I've ever seen in a rock singer my entire life....103,065 views....

Music education in schools man. People think justin timberlake can sing or write songs. I've never heard of these guys before yesterday. It's really kinda confusing why more people don't like this band.

  • What a great and absolutely underated band!!!

  • jake absolutely destroys george lynch

  • I was there are the shoot with him Sammoth-IDIOT

  • I freaking miss these guys. I wish when I saw them in the late 80's I wasnt so lit.GOD Bless Ray Gillen. We all miss you.

  • this song kicks ass. they played it about a week ago on hairnation

  • Low slung, maximum leverage badass, balls to the wall, good legspan track

  • NOT MALSTEEM

  • If it was Malmsteen it would be the same damn regurgitated bs he always plays

  • BADLANDS=BADASS

  • FUNNY THING is that this was a video MTV used to play before they dumped rock/metal for no brains HIP HOP which was B4 they decided to dumb down America w/ their moronic shows. Thanks you losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Malsteem was fast and that's it. NO melody no feel no heart - that's why he never hit it big

  • i think malmsteen would be melodic if he would try to be on the other hand im with u he is just a fast guitar player

  • malmsteen copied Randy Rhoads idea for music he wanted to become a major in classical then come back to metal and combine the two but the tragic morning in '82 stopped that .

    R.I.P. Randy Rhoads.

  • lol i dont know where you got that idea .malms was all about blackmore and took the idea of mixing classical with rock from DP and ran with it.

  • That is Jake E Lee, loser.

  • jack e lee is amazing. idiot

  • Jake E. Lee fucking rocks --PERIOD. If you're going to compare and rip players by comparing them to Eddie EVH and SRV then you may as well discard 98 percent of the rock guitarists out there. You dont have to be trend setter to be a talented, respected, ass kicker on guitar.

Jake Kicks Ass! YES I do ACTUALLY think Jake is great fucking guitarist.

  • Jake E Lee overrated?!?!?!?! did you listen the solo of this song? or the Bark of the moon ozzys tour solo?

actually.... have you ever listened to music? lol

  • Ostia es que como rockean estos Badlands!!!

De donde has conseguido el video? no hay manera de encontrarlo en ninguna parte.

  • Puta que pariu is like Mother fucker, all right!i love girls from USA, they are a very very fuckerrrrrrr........

  • im from Brazil and i love the music of USA, especialy rock and roll, i have 44 years old and since 10 years i love RnR, but i think that the best bands are the England, like Zepelin, Purple, Sabbath, etc etc ...so God save the RnR.

  • I can't get this song out of my head. His voice is perfect.

  • liproll before you start making comments on how overrated guitarists are you better remember that Lee is where he is for a reason. obviously someone thought he was good. Where are u? in front of your computer trying to shoot down successful musicians

  • A lot of talent in this band. Saw them twice in the early 90's. Compare them to other bands in the same era and they kick major ass. Man, I wish they had a time capsule so I could see them again. I love the bluesy rock fushion.

  • What , i mean WHHHAAAATTTT a solo !!!!

  • Funny how this was on crappy MTV. They used to play Rock or even videos for that matter until some poindexters took over.

  • I agree with you Queens9999..MTV shouldn't even be called MTV anymore! Do they even play videos anymore?

  • Absolutely agree, too! I really do miss the MUSIC on this fuckin' channel called MTV nowadays... God bless You Tube and live music...

  • Right on Man! God bless You Tube and live music!

  • Jake E. Lee is one the greatest guitarists to pick up an axe! Badlands rocks! No Ozzy needed!

  • una de las mejores bandas del mundo puro feeling.ray gillen no te olvidaremos nunca.los buenos desaparecen mientras hijosdputa q no merecen el aire q respiran sobreviven

  • Kicks arse-just discovered their self titled solid album.

  • Great band, awesome song!

  • hola gringos...

    ja!

    me gusta esta cancion...

    pa´´ q m capten: i love this song!

  • I agree, these guys lost out to big record company promotions and budgets for well marketed hair bands.

  • One of the best rock bands ever.

  • Ya,Jake was in Ozzy, this singer was in Black Sabbath, the drummer was in Kiss,Alice Cooper,Black Sabbath. He was replaced with a drummer who was the also singer in Racer X with guitar god Paul Gilbert,in which their drummer also plays in Judas Preist. This Bassist played in Yngwie Malmsteens band etc. I dont know why youd think guys with those kind of resumes would be forgetable or lame.

  • Because I'm not listening to their resumes. I'm listening to their music. Douche.

  • If you liked Led Zep,Bad co.,Free etc. you would appreciate what these guys were doing here around 1989. They sure didnt look/sound like Poison or Motley Crue like everyone else did then. You obviously dont like raw rock n roll. And youre here listening to music you dont like.-and Im the "Douche"

  • What do you mean, man? You mean Badlands were a crappy band or that Jake E. Lee can´t play music anymore if Ozzy is not beside him???? Too close-minded.

  • Unoriginal. Not creative. But played very well.

  • Ok, they were not creating a new sound, but Jake E. Lee told so. He said he wanted that record to sound as if recorded in the ´70s. Agree now, it wasn´t somenthing new, but the musicianship was great.

  • Thanks loungefly. I appreciate the info.

  • Does anyone know where Ray is buried? I'd like to visit and pay my respects. I finally got the first album on cd after turning a cassette into dust years ago. Saw 'em at the Ritz in Roseville, Mich years ago. Still love the music, though.

  • Fairview Memorial Park,New Jersey. Check out his myspace page for rare pix n stuff-ya-he was(is)friggin' awesome-!

  • I love this band, great stuff!!!

  • I just want to add that Jeff Martin is/was also the singer for RacerX another awesome band of the time and before!! I was/am a big fan of RacerX and when I found out it was Jeff on drums for this album I lost my mind... it's still gone. Those were the days of hidden knowledge before the internet. RIP Ray and I hope this album lives forever!

  • second installment was excellent, not as good as the first but the guitar tracks on this song kick fckn a**. RIP Sunshine Ray

  • this fuckn rocks!!! that shit jake e lee dus with the dampened strings is so fuckin difficult. ray gillen was one of the greatest singers r.i.p

  • Hey MTV This is called Hard Rock....Look into it. Lame ass sucks.

  • Can't find this song or Badlands for that matter on I -Tunes. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!!

  • this is some of jakes best stuff

  • What album is this on? Is it deleted? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • its on Voodoo Highway

  • One of my most favorite song(s)from the legendary BADLANDS "The Last Time" is a true heartfelt Classic song: performed with a nice twist of the Old West and Ray's voice is Soulfully rich/breathtaking, Jake's trailblazer guitar solo is masterfully high wired/kicking it into high gear to the max and the mighty rhythm section from Greg's bass and Jeff drums is bringing it all home in a gritty-raw Badlands circle. Awesome song/I love the Old Western scenery look it fits BADLANDS perfectly!

  • Liked Jake when he was with ozzy and his solo stuff is just as strong if not more so

  • Pure Fucking Rock and Roll!!!!!

  • ooohh- this gives me goosebumps- unbelievably good!!!

  • enjoyed this stuff ;first time seeing this one..fucking pure rock period.reminds me of some deep purple....voodoo what a great cd.

  • copada banda. mu mu

  • Jake E Lee is on fucking fire... Cool Video.

  • Saw them on tour for their 1st album at Lamour in Brooklyn. They kicked ass. Great band wrong time. Hey thanks morons at MTV for pushing Hip Hop and grunge.

  • I never forgive MTV. Never will ever watch those fuckers.

  • same here bro,they suck

  • Badlands time frame was the perfect time/I just wish that they had the proper Management & Advertisements that they so needed to back them up because they definately had the music skills & package/talents to carry them musically anyway. Badlands legends Jake E. Lee/Ray Gillen/Greg Chaisson/Jeff Martin & Eric Singer earned their music quests/inputs long ago & deserve to be in the limelight every now and then. Much respects!

  • How did ray pass away ?

  • I´ve heard different stuff, but some kind of AIDS related stuff. Well, with that voice, and his looks, not really a big surprise.

Again - this is NOT "hard data", it´s just something I read. One "source" said stomach cancer.

If anyone has REAL info, feel free to share.

Cheers from Finland - metal forever \o/

  • Ray did Die from AIDS (he was not gay)I used to do a hard rock video program on cable tv.back in the late 80's early 90's and got to interview Badlands both times they came through Dallas.Ray was actualy sick during the second interview. After his death Jake came through town with his new project and I was there to interview them later I spoke with his new singer and he told me Ray had not only died of AIDS but had continued to have unprotected sex with woman after he was diagnosed HIV positive

  • Sounds like a smear campaign to me. I think Ray was Christian and, though I am not, I doubt a Christian would do such a thing.

  • Consider the source...

  • "Consider the source..."

    Was directed at klbax63

  • From what I remember, I think it was Aids.

  • Assume the position while this tune gives you a size 18 auditory BOOT right in your well-fed badonkadonk!!!

  • BADLANDS!!!!the worlds best kept secret!! r.i.p. ray. thanks for the music.

  • Ray Gillen. \o/

  • jake .e lee is a legend

  • Badlands second album was great. Really bluesy and much less hairspray.

Jake E Lee is in my hall of fame for guitarists along with Morello and Kim Thayl.

  • Long live Ray Gillen & Badlands music FOREVER!

  • Badlands was on the most underrated bands. The first 2 albums are classic and Dusk was recorded in one take. It was later cleaned up by Jeff Martin and Greg Chaisson for release. Ray Gillen was a beast and is sorely missed. George Lynch almost had him for Lynch Mob 3 but Ray told him he was sick. Jake E Lee is badass and his new project is some heavy industrial metal from what I have heard.

  • Great tune.Glad I have this baby!If anybody want's a copy,and have something to trade,drop me a line.

  • fuckn badassland hell yeah guitar riff rock on turn it up play on

  • Was Jake E. Lee with RATT in the beginning, before Ozzy?

  • yes he was

  • yeah but it was called somethin different then ratt i think

  • Ratt was called Mickey Ratt at first, but not sure Jake was with them at that time. Jake was also in Rough Cutt for a time.

  • They were in all each others bands, hell, Bobby Blotzer, Warren DeMartini and Juan Crouier were all members of Dokken as well.

  • Warren credits George Lynch for teaching him the "jackoff" vibrato technique.

  • Jake was with Rough Cutt before Ozzy

  • Jake E Lee is so Fucking Bad on that Guitar...He was great with Ozzy and He doesn't dissappoint here either...!

  • The vocal technique displayed by Ray Gillen is a talent thats very hard find. What an awesome singer he was-this whole band was so good!

  • badlands fuck the rest,,,,

  • i nearly shit myself when Bo Bice did that a capella version of " in a dream" on american idol three years ago. i thought that there might have been a resurgencedue of renewed interest due to that broadcast. even if there was, that album is virtually impossible to find. a true classic album. three day funk baby.

  • The sound on this album is wonderful. Full rich bass, great guitar tone, and little or no compression. They don't produce albums like that anymore.

  • truly kick ass.

  • Short lived, but great.

  • I think the Badlands wouldve been an awesome band if they lasted longer.

  • Voodoo Highway!!!! Great opening track.

  • As kick ass as this tune is, it's hard to believe that the rest of the material on this album is as good as, or better. In my opinion, Voodoo Highway was one of the all time best hard rock albums ever released. You have to commend Jake E Lee for keeping it real in the face of the impending grunge and rap movement of the time. Unfortunately for commercial sucess, this was the right album at the wrong time. What is Jake E up to these days anyway? Hope Ray is rockin down the pearly gates!

  • The F**kin best band live at the time.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAKE (15 Feb)

    RIP RAY

  • what a fuckin great voice he had!

  • cwhipp4, and you could do better, go fuck yourself

    this rocks!!!

  • Ray, a great singer! Jake, an awesome guitar player... BADLANDS, a kick-ass band!

  • I first caught em in college 1990ish. I guess metal was fading out at the time. Glad it has made a comeback. I wouldn't call this group a hair/glam band, it's a metal act. long hair is just part of the package.

  • can you believe its been 15 years? i still can't get enough of them. have you checked out "Dusk" yet? used to be only available in Japan but they finally released it in the US. its credits say it was basically live work, and its incredible. real quality without lots of production (but it doesn't sound "live"). RIP, Brother Ray!

  • Dusk is a demo. It was recorded live...all done in 1 take each. Jeff said he recalls only 1 song needed to be redone due to a mic problem. There are no overdubs..and Ray had only finished about 1/2 the lyrics...so he Jib Jabbed the other words. After it was submitted, their label dropped them. At the time, they thought it was good.

  • why are the albums out of print.

  • How did I never hear about this great band? What the heck happened?

  • Like many other great Hard Rock bands such as Blue Murder and Tyketto, they couldn't go on with the lack of support to Hard/Metal at that time.

  • youre right, bro. its a damn shame

  • You're to young? *grin*

  • I wish.

  • Wish someone would post Dancing on the edge! Love that tune. They do have a Huckabee version of it-not too bad at that.

  • god i miss this band...........

  • Ray,we miss your heaven voice

  • ..just awesome song, try to performe like this...??? just great..
