  • i went there yesterday and it only took me 22 mins.

  • I went there yesterday, and only made it a quarter of the way around, so thank you for sharing the rest for me!

  • I've been to the Imperial Palace and the surrounding area, cool to see a familiar place!

  • Mad props to you for that - I most definitely wouldn't make it.

And I know I most definitely wouldn't have the strength to hold up a camera while I'm doing it. Good on you!

Do you know Tajee (username Tajeep)? She does running stuff sometimes - maybe you'll run into her around the imperial palace one of these days.

  • Mate, I swear, you must be the best connected YouTuber I know... Thanks for the tip on the channel - I just went and subscribed. I'm always looking for running partners, makes the time fly by!

    Cheers mate

    Peace

  • That was cool. Thanks for sharing.

  • My pleasure - I'm going to keep trying to innovate a bit this year, it's really nice to get feedback like this when I try something new :)

    Cheers!

  • love the NZ samurai animation.

  • The intro was sent to me out of the blue by a Japanese guy who I used to know in NZ who found my channel by chance. He just sent it to me out of the blue and said I was free to use it. One of the really nice "good karma" experiences doing this as a hobby has let me experience.

    Glad you like it too!

    Peace

  • hey great new years resolution. glad to see you out exercising. new dads often put on "baby fat" too - but it's usually AFTER the birth because they hang out at home more than they used to.

  • Hehe, so true! I just met up with my rugby team tonight and it looks like I will need to get in shape soon - playing the US Navy team in a few weeks (let me just check my medical insurance is paid up...)

  • When is that rugby tourney? I'll be back in Japan 2/18~25. Let's try and get together for a beer.

    Peace

  • Nice! My boyfriend and I are thinking about start running around 皇居 as well! well, he'll do the running I'll follow him on my bicycle that is. ;-)

  • Hehe, sounds like a nice way of doing it. I'm not too far from the palace loop, so if you and your boyfriend ever are out in the evening on a weeknight, let me know and I might come out and say hello ;)

  • I just got the RunKeeper App. You get the free one? I've been looking for just such a program to track hikes and bike trips.

  • I tried the free one and liked it, so I splashed out on the Pro version - not that I remember the difference now... It's a great app. I think there are specialized ones for cycling too, but I'm totally satisfied with this. I only wish it would animate the course automatically - it was a pain capturing myself moving the cursor across at even speed...

  • This is really interesting.

  • Hehe, glad you liked it.

  • Wow that is a lot of running.

I'm doing P90X for my exercise.

  • 5k is just 3 miles.

  • Yep, it isn't a long run - just 25-30 mins, but it is a lovely course.

  • nice. as in the video, not the run. but 5km isn't too bad...

i remember having to run 5km every morning when i was in the army. that was just a few years ago. i also remember a time when i liked to wear tight clothes....

  • You were in the Singapore Army, right? Maybe you know where my old house is - I used to live in Nee Soon Military Camp ;)

Of course, at the time, I was 8 years old. And still had hair...

  • yeah i know where that is. the camp's probably alot more developed now than it used to be, but i can imagine what it would have been like because there are many others that haven't changed for decades.

but you probably know some things about my country that even i don't!

  • Running! A great way to start the year :)

I'll be up there at the end of February!

    Cheers

  • Hey man, we have to meet up when you're here.

I'm guessing that even with the snow, Kobe must seem like a tropical paradise after Canada. You're back running now?

  • Thanks so much for putting this together! I've been running often as of late, and am seriously considering running a 5k around the palace this October. Loved this video - great way to check things out! You run much faster than I do, and wheeze a whole lot less. :)

  • Haha, well, if you ever want an overweight wheezy bald tour guide for your run, let me know when you plan to do it! ;)

  • Nice work hiko!! i cant even run for 1 min =S i have no physical condition at all...i'm sooo lazy hahahahaha =D and Don't worry the grampa probably would win me too lol

    take care

    xoxo

  • LOL, you're a model though, right, so I guess you are in all the phsyical condition you need to be ;)

A guy like me has to make an effort...

Next time, I will catch up to that grampa...

    Thanks Fabita!

  • ahhh i remember my days there walking that park!! nice video i liked it so much!!

  • When I get fitter, I will go through kita-maru koen and Yasukuni Jinja, but I think I will be stuck on the short course for a while for now ;)

    Peace

  • LOL That grampa was outrunning you! That was so funny!

Actually what camera did you use to film that o_O it must've been much harder with it!

Also what gps unit did you use to have that kind of tracking on you with google map and stuff?

  • I filmed it with my Sanyo Xacti CA9 (a nice light camera so not too much of a burden, but frustrating not being able to use that arm), and the tracking was with my iPhone and the "Runkeeper Pro" application. It gives you the readout graph and stats I showed, but not animated, so I had to do a screen-capture of moving my mouse along the course steadily. It took me about 20 takes to get... ;)

    Peace

  • 5 stars for doing what would kill me!

  • Haha, cheers mate. It was a pretty gentle 5km - I get the feeling my wheezing and panting added a dimension of drama that wasn't there... ;)

    Happy New year!

    ^u^v

    Peace

  • Love the time lapse footage. The music compliments it rather well. Cool video Hiko

  • Glad you liked it - I tried the music out and thought that the beat complimented the running speed pretty well. Glad you liked it :)

  • RUN BITCH RUN!!!!! lol just kidding I love jogging too its definitely healthy and it improves your heart condition and lungs. sooooooooooo RUN!!!

  • Hahahah, that is my favorite line from "Scary Movie" ("What were your final words to the deceased?...") Yep, it is improved conditioning I need :)

  • Is that video in real time?? You're a fast runner!! ^_^ Well done! I couldn't do it! [x]

  • Haha, if that video were in real time, there would be a trail of flattened pedestrians in my overweight and substantial wake... :)

  • My weight went up so much that some people think im pregnant :D

I won,t be running anytime soon,The temperatures are way too low right now :(

  • Congratulations!

My wife said I look like a bear.

I told her, "you can call me Papa Bear, baby"

    Peace

  • You run fast lol

  • Hehe, yep, although it is rather upsetting to see the old timers rocketing past me even when I speed the video up 11 times... ;)

  • Congratulations, you just burned away 1 mc donalds cheeseburger :D

But good work, I should go run more often myself.

    Nice video btw, awesome.

  • Hehe, you noticed that. I saw the calorie count and thought the same thing - "what the hell?!" I felt like I should have burned off an entire chocolate cake by then...

  • Hahahaha, you got beat by a jeej. You're hardcore だから you'll get back into shape in no time :.)

I'm as softcore as you get. Marshmallow softcore. But I'll get my ass out and do it some more, anyway ;)

  • I got fatter!

    Ganbatte, Hikoooooooooo!

  • Hey man, sign of a great end of year break!

  • I hear you there I need to run myself its been to years since I hit the gym too. I miss those days. Thats it I need to get back in shape.

    Cheers!

  • Haha, don't we all!

  • I've just found your channel. I subbed. Your channel is culturally interesting!

  • Why, thank you very much ;)

    Peace

  • Now if you did this once every 3-4 days... Well done! I would have collapsed at around 16 minutes

  • Hehe, that's the trick, doing it regularly. It's still hard while it's cold but I'll try to get out again sometime this week :)

    Peace

  • Yeah I see runners all the time around there. But where do they all change and shower?

Under related videos I'm seeing a vid by nikeSUPERNATURAL...

  • Hey man, I put some links on the linked blog article with info on the "runner stations" now set up all the way around the palace with showers and lockers. They're pretty good, and very popular.

  • Awesome, thx.

  • Good stuff. Always enjoy the videos, so keep up the good work. I need to start running.

  • Thanks, I really appreciate it. I thought this was a nice way to show off the centre of Tokyo, even if it is a tad wobbly... ;)

It is hard to get out in the cold right now, but I also want to get back into playing rugby, a winter sport, so I guess I have to. Thanks for the comment!

    Peace

    Peace

    m(_'_)m

  • sikk, it's like a video game. Well done.

  • Hey, MissHannahMinx, thanks for stopping by. Now I'm like, TWICE as embarrassed at my slow wheezing gasping run... :)

There's a lot going on with the editing of the vid - it was really fun to see come together. Thanks for the comment!

    Peace

  • Interesting concept for a video and I like the components.

Everything was perfect except for the jumpy running video. This would go viral had you used a steadycam.

  • Haha, I hope speeding it up that much might smooth it - I think the effect it produces is still quite cool. But jogging with a steadicam isn't going to be practical. It could be something to try on a bicycle sometime but then it wouldn't be running. Anyway, I'm going to try some new styles of vids this year, this is the first one, and I'm very happy with the look and feel I got, but your comment is fair I think. Meh, it was fun to do, and I've never seen anyone do this before.

    Peace

  • It was quite an original idea! I need to come up with some of those this year as well :)

  • Hehe, I have to make up for not having so much time to straight v-log any more. My youtubing goal is to become a better rounded video maker this year. See what I can do ;)

    Peace

  • Oh man... I couldn't last as long as you... I lost all my cardio... I need to run again :( I get tired just thinking about it to lol

  • Haha, it's only 25 minutes, but yep, even sped up you can see all the grandpas zipping past me while I ran - this is the worst shape I have been in for years. Still, it is a great course, and I've gotta do something or I'll have to go and buy new work clothes... :)

    Peace

  • Google needs a whoopin for not correcting that "error occured" bullshit!!!! >:O

  • Hehe, I was getting it too. Still, they are doing something right - the video came up in record time... Almost instantly. WMV files usually take hours to go live.

I prepped this in HD so you can see the map and everything clearly so it should look really nice in a wee while ;)

    Peace

  • So what format did you upload it in? And yes, the HD is very VERY pretty.. :3

How far do you usually run? Im gonna start again when it gets hot enough

  • Oooh, hehe, it DID come out nice :)

I usually use WMV 24fps, 854x480, but for this vid I used WMV 30fps 720p. I've tried with lots of formats, but for some reason, WMV seems to come out clearest on YouTube, at least from the editing software I use (Corel Videostudio).

Temperature wise, there is only really a 2 month window each spring and autumn that it is not too hot and not too cold, although I found on this day, the middle of the day wasn't too bad, and Tokyo gets great weather.

  • Ah alright. My vidoes are WMV 25fps, and similar resolution, they come out fine.

Here in Sweden we usually have "summer" around 2 weeks every year lol! The rest of hte time it either rains or is cold. I live between two mountains, that doesnt really make it all that much better either :P

  • yeah i went to goteborg last year and there was a only tiny bit of sun lol :D but i still enjoyed being with my family

  • Only two weeks?! Wow. Still, I have an image of Sweden as being a beautiful country with great people, so I guess that must have been the trade off. I'd love to visit there someday.

  • Hah okay a little bit of exaggeration, but IF we get a summer it will be fantastic, more beautiful than most places imo... But we dont always have summers where its hot for a long period of time, making the water batheable and such. Its usually the hottest just in the beginning and just at the end of summer, in the middle it tends to rain all the frickin time
