well wierd things happen... i came here from a video of a very agressive b. smithi (mexican red knee) and it shows that even though a specific type of T is supposed to have a certain nature sometimes they just don't
@KingdomPears So spiders are nasty huh? They deserve to die just because YOU think they are nasty? I cannot even begin to list how many diseases and parasites that "cute" animals like rabbits and mice have. If "nasty" animals deserve to die like you say they do, than I should just start a rodent genocide. Point is that an animal doesn't deserve to die just because it looks "nasty".
You sir certainly have balls. I like spiders, but no way would I hold anything bigger then a rose knee tarantula. I could stand near you or chance touching it, but no way would that thing be on me. lol He (she?) is a beauty though. I'll stick with my snakes. :P
@5uzyD4wg all tarantulas will bite. but they give warnings. they usually bite as a last resort on humans. they first kick there legs against there back to flick hairs at you. if they do that. they arnt sure what to make of you. and you best not to hold them.
most tarntulas will think they are under attack when it comes to human contact but i have a pink toe whos very docile i dont know if i just got luck with that one does any body out there know that on please??
@porkish98 what is wrong with u? yeah so this guy sets up a tank fills it with padding buys a light and puts decorations in to put a fake spider in it and upload it to youtube????? doubt it very much
You're pretty bold holding a T. Blondi. Their bite won't kill you but that shit will definitely hurt like a mother, and normally they hate being held. I'll stick with my chill as smithi thats sitting on my shoulder watching these videos with me.
Haha I don't know why I'm looking at tarantula videos when I have black widows. You seriously have guts to keep that tarantula. Most of my friends would scream their heads off seeing a regular house spider. Tarantulas fascinate me, yet they scare me too. I think I once pet my friend's Chilean Rose (or beauty I don't remember) and it twitched as though scared. Do they dislike being pet?
@sukinorules Tarantulas usually dont like to be handled at all. They are not social animals and usually think they are being attacked when they are being handled. Some species (like the chilean rose) are docile enough that they can learn that humans are not a threat...and a plesant source of heat. Those ones wont 'complain' too much about it,
@Beasile i know what the fuck spider im buyin when i am able to [i live with my grandparents [they have custody] and my grandpa would fuckin kill it my grandma is dead even though she would rain hell down on it
@sukinorules no they sometimes do not like it yet sometimes do.i have a Rose Hair.when u pet there legs or abdomen they jum a lil bit because they werent sure you were there at first once you do it again they wont jump like my Rose Hair.
@smashyland well it depends on whether they are ravenously hungry and vicious or well cared for, docile, and if they trust you. I have one I OCCASIONALLY take out to hold, but not often. And I also have one that I will never hold, if you hold the jar she is in she will try to attack your hand.
@sukinorules while its true some tarantula species are generally more docile than others and take easier to handling, just remember one small thing: tarantulas much like almost any other animal on earth, each have their own personalities, ive heard of people going out into the wild for tarantulas (not for pets but science) and some of them would bite in a flash yet others were sorta timid but fairly docile, same species of spider, despite being wild animals and not captive-bred
@sukinorules if you want good tarantula species for a pet, ive heard almost nothing but good things about the species known as the Mexican Red-Knee, here in the states most pet shops sell Rose-Hair Tarantulas, but Roses tend to be worse pets than Red-Knees, especially in the Handling department, some Rose-hairs are docile, others are mean, once again ,each individual spider tends to have its own personality
@Lavos2007 lol u gave a rise hair,,,shes a pet rock,,,she does not mind being picked up,,,the only thing that bothers her is water,,,when i give her water i always manage to spray a bit and boy she hates it but other than that,,,shes a pet rock
dude! That is an awsome goliath you got there! I would love one! I have recently got me a chilean rose and a mexican red knee! They are my first spiders so am stil learning! :)
@hammad74222 Well in a way they are the same due to that they are part of the same family known as Arthropods, which means insects with 8 legs, plus it doesn't really make a difference due to a professional such as yourself, but i bet you knew that.
do goliaths actually make good pets? I would love a T, right now I actually am breeding jumpers XD im waiting for it get warm out for some fresh friends to work with but i got a female who should be dropping an eggsack soon
@Beasile i only have experience caring for jumping spiders :) although i would love to get a tarantula soon but i wouldnt know a good one to get for a first T. I've handled one before and it was fun :) helped me get over my initial hesitation over spiders. whats a good T to get for a first? is it better to get them when they are smaller so they grow used to you over time?
@Smokeyandthehoodlum If you want a pet Tarantula and are inexperienced, you probably wouldn't want one of those bad boys. They pretty aggressive (from what I've read). A good pet tarantula for a beginner would be a Chilean rose tarantula or a Mexican red knee. They're very docile. And easy to take care of.
thanks for reading my last comment where i said i wasnt planning on getting one of these. pass the bong next time. and would everyone please stop responding to my post from 4 months ago
@Smokeyandthehoodlum I believe at 6:30, he flicked his fiberglass-like hairs at beasile's hand. You can see the goliath shake his leg rapidly. If that's what he was doing, then he was using his hind leg to flick the hairs.
Awesome spider, don't know why anyone would think it's fake. I've handled spiders, but haven't got to try a tarantula yet. I want to get one, hopefully I can find a wild female Oklahoman Brown out here near where I live. If not, I may just go ahead and buy a spider.
OK, I rarely leave comments, but are you f*cking kidding me? My balls shrunk right up and I'm going to have bad dreams tonight. I am no p*ssy, but when it comes to spiders, I mean, dude, God Bless Ya, but Holy Sh*t!
I'd disown you if you were my Son, Brother, Roommate or Husband. Seriously. Ha Ha. Damn you're brave.....
@VocalVirgo Lol they aren't dangerous. There are a lot of species that are irritable and they should not be handled at all but even they cant do any real damage. It is one thing to have irrational fears but the disown comment seems a little silly don't you think? The bigger the spider the less dangerous it is.
@Squamata101 actually one of the biggest tarantulas is the P. ornata. It has the most venomous bite of all the tarantulas and can put you in a hospital. Vomiting, nausea, stiffness in the joints, near paralyzed where you have been bit. Long term affects may sometimes include arthritis. they also get up to 11". sooo.... yeah.. not deadly but they can do real damage.
@Raptiosaur You are completely right about that and I apologize for generalizing. I was aiming at the face that smaller species of spiders in are in need of potent venom much more than a T considering their small body mass and general delicateness. T's are generally quite heavy bodied and can use that size to their advantage, limiting their need for potent venom. Just trying to stress stress that these are not dangerous monsters to be feared, only respected.
I have arachnophobia, so I come here to try and watch spider videos so I can become less scared but every time i see one in real I'm still scared. What can i do besides grow a pair of nuts?

Let it crawl on your hand -- if you start to panic, shut your eyes, remind yourself it's not a dangerous animal, breathe out slowly, and put it back down.
@frankovich213 i have arachnophobia to but im not that scared i probably still shit myself anything bigger than a walkers crisp but im kinda passionatly interested about spiders i tend to slaughter any small house, spider simply cause im scared,but overall as man of science (studying to be one)its my curiosity that drives me to know more about spiders.
@paradox3578 i was never a big fan of spiders. im now on my second T. i had a rose hair the first time(gave to a friend cause i had to down grade the number of pets i had). now i own a brazilian black. its a baby bout the size of a quarter. it will get to be around 5-6 inches. both types are known for being very docile although you can still get a bad egg. feel free to ask any questions. if i dont know the answer, id be happy to find out for you. i will say this, T's make great pets.
Fangs drained? Uh...no. You can't remove a tarantulas fangs or venom sack, they NEED that to eat. There are plenty of spiders that can kill a person, but there is NO species of tarantula toxic enough to kill a human.
@TheTarantulaMan There has never been a reported case of an allergic reaction to tarantula venom. It doesn't contain the proteins in it that cause allergic reactions to things like bees, wasps, etc so you won't have anything like that to worry about. There has also never been any deaths reported that were linked to a tarantula bite.
Yeah these tarantulas do not have the venom enough to kill a person. Only spiders like brown recluse and black widow can do that, and even then its people that dont treat their wounds that have bad infections and are near-death experiences. Im sure theres a few others with that kind of poison but the two i mentioned are the most known and most documented.
I got a G. Rosea yesterday, and I'm picking up 3 Baby B. smithi's (red-knee) and 3 G. Pulchra, what is the best way to pick the spider up for the first time? btw, have you ever gotten bitten? And how long should I hold it each time I pick it up?
Probably just prod it onto your hand is the best way. I usually hold mine for about 5 mins each because they tend to get "hyper". They don't like being held anyway.
I got a G. Rosea yesterday, and I'm picking up 3 Baby B. smithi's (red-knee) and 3 G. Pulchra, what is the best way to pick the spider up for the first time? btw, have you ever gotten bitten?
@Mantis897565 rose hair there very docile and sweet and very very beautiful once i get my camera fix ill be adding some of my rose hair (fluffykins or just fluffy for short lol)
@Mantis897565 I'm twelve and I have two rosehairs. they are really good starter tarantulas. im not going to go around acting like i know everything but those are really goos starters too. i feed mine pinkey mice and crickets.
@Mantis897565 In my opinion the best tarantula to start with is an Brachypelma vagans it's family of the mexican red knee, I started with an brachypelma to.
@Beasile there are some in the Poecilotheria genus that are very toxic. still not enough to kill but they are more painful than breaking bones sometimes. and they are usually aggressive (not always)
yes its true...although somtimes the male is able to escape with its life. Also, If a male approches a female 'wrong' or the female is not ready to mate, then she will kill the male instantly.
This specific type of spider (Goliath birdeater) becomes too dangerous to keep as a house mascot after a certain age right? I thought I read somewhere about that. Or is it only the females after they mature to a point where they can start laying eggs?
Fear of what? I have never feared spiders or tarantulas. So there was nothing to overcome there. However there is a fear still involved. Fear of accidently hurting it. If I ever get bit (so far I've been lucky & have never been bit), I can't be sure that the sudden pain won't make me flinch and send the tarantula flying across the room.
Right mate, just wondered how long it took you to work up the nerve to hold a spider of this size- but as you say you have never been afraid of stuff like this so I guess that's my answer! lol
@Beasile um... i read up that if you get bit it is not supposed to hurt only the hairs make you sneeze a lot and if a single hair gets in your eye it is nearly impossible to get out because the hairs are so wickedly barbed but thats only what i read up
Very cool I just got my t yesterday and I have to admit it still gives me the quivers holding him but at the same time I'm beyond excited that I have one too. Held him three times.
I admit im terrified of spiders i find them scary and sometmes creepy but im sorry about him dying regardless he was your pet there very interesting creatures just not for me im trying to get over my fear of them slowly i respect you for being able to handle such a pet lol
how much of a potential threat? If your thinking of another predator that might eat the tarantula...No, I will not do that.
However, a mouse (food for the tarantula) might get lucky and bite off a leg while the tarantula is killing it. Technically the mouse dose pose a small threat, but the tarantula is a bigger threat to the mouse. I have fed him mice.
I was thinking more of the lines of an emperor scorpion, the giant hornet, or the archimantis monstrosa, the largest species of mantis (flightless because of its massive size). The mantis hunts small ground animals such as turtles, snakes, large spiders, hornets and wasps, certain scorpions, and rodents such as a rat. they are even know to chase after small dogs. last but not least a camel spider? any of those would you have near the tarantula?
@powerliftingaddict If he was bit, nothing would happen. A tarantula's bite is about as bad and slightly worse than a bee's sting in pain, might get a little inflammation, but more or less he would be perfectly fine. However there are many other species out there such as the Sydney funnel web *sometimes considered a tarantula* whose bite can cause near instant death if not treated immediately.
i would die of an heartattack if i saw one of those beasts xD i live in Denmark where the spiders are tiny and i'm long gone if i saw one of those tiny killermachines xD
well wierd things happen... i came here from a video of a very agressive b. smithi (mexican red knee) and it shows that even though a specific type of T is supposed to have a certain nature sometimes they just don't

wow you have some courage pick a spider like that up lol wont a bite from that kill you or did you have the fangs drained
mikey3565 1 year ago
@mikey3565
Fangs drained? Uh...no. You can't remove a tarantulas fangs or venom sack, they NEED that to eat. There are plenty of spiders that can kill a person, but there is NO species of tarantula toxic enough to kill a human.
Beasile 1 year ago 30
@Beasile no tarantula can kill a person unless their allergic... BTW it looks a bit dry in that tank realize they like it humid nice T though
TheTarantulaMan 1 year ago
@TheTarantulaMan There has never been a reported case of an allergic reaction to tarantula venom. It doesn't contain the proteins in it that cause allergic reactions to things like bees, wasps, etc so you won't have anything like that to worry about. There has also never been any deaths reported that were linked to a tarantula bite.
healonator 1 year ago
@Beasile i would shit myself and die if i had to pick one of those things up
bryancarlton 1 year ago
@Beasile

Kable457 1 year ago
@Kable457
Probably just prod it onto your hand is the best way. I usually hold mine for about 5 mins each because they tend to get "hyper". They don't like being held anyway.
nicolevins 1 year ago
@Kable457
Oh and a bite from any of your species won't hurt much

I saw a small rock Tarantula at a pet store or i think that's what it was called. what would u recommend for my first tarantula.
Mantis897565 1 year ago
@Mantis897565
A mexican red-knee or red-leg. They have nice colors and they are so docile that if you ever get bit by one...then you deserve it.
Beasile 1 year ago 21
@Beasile chilean rose hairs are also good starters if im correct
666archenemyfan 11 months ago
@Mantis897565 G pulchra, G pulchripes or A avic are also good recommendations for a first T along with the B smithi beasile mentioned to you earlier.

@Mantis897565 mexican red knee, no doubt
XpureXmetalXlifeX 1 year ago
@Mantis897565 rose hair there very docile and sweet and very very beautiful once i get my camera fix ill be adding some of my rose hair (fluffykins or just fluffy for short lol)
Alleyhellcatsman 1 year ago
@Mantis897565 I'm twelve and I have two rosehairs. they are really good starter tarantulas. im not going to go around acting like i know everything but those are really goos starters too. i feed mine pinkey mice and crickets.
Live0Laugh0Twilight 1 year ago
@Mantis897565 In my opinion the best tarantula to start with is an Brachypelma vagans it's family of the mexican red knee, I started with an brachypelma to.

what happends if it bites you?
elitecssplayer 1 year ago
@elitecssplayer
not much...a bit of pain and swelling. Tarantula bites are about as painful & dangerous as a bee sting (or so I'm told...I have never been bit)
Beasile 1 year ago
@Beasile
Goliath birdeather bites are pretty damn bad ive heard, as it can kill a small animal, so doubt this spiders bite is like a bee sting xD
richardsimpotuts 1 year ago
@Beasile there are some in the Poecilotheria genus that are very toxic. still not enough to kill but they are more painful than breaking bones sometimes. and they are usually aggressive (not always)

hey is it true that after tarantulas mate the female eats the male? i cant remeber where i heard this but it sounds realy wierd
GGxProductions 1 year ago
@GGxProductions
yes its true...although somtimes the male is able to escape with its life. Also, If a male approches a female 'wrong' or the female is not ready to mate, then she will kill the male instantly.
Beasile 1 year ago
How long does these spiders usually live?
Crunchsnap 1 year ago
@Crunchsnap
males: 2 years
females: 10 years
keep in mind each species has it's own lifespan...some live for 30+ years
Beasile 1 year ago
This specific type of spider (Goliath birdeater) becomes too dangerous to keep as a house mascot after a certain age right? I thought I read somewhere about that. Or is it only the females after they mature to a point where they can start laying eggs?
ThisNamesNowTaken 1 year ago
@ThisNamesNowTaken
Females can get pretty aggressive (extremely aggressive if it has an egg sack), but they are not dangerous to humans at any age.
There is NO tarantula that is dangerous to a human (unless your UNLUCKY enough to be allergic).

How much fear did you have to finally overcome to approach him this way?
newkillergenius 1 year ago
@newkillergenius
Beasile 1 year ago
@Beasile
Right mate, just wondered how long it took you to work up the nerve to hold a spider of this size- but as you say you have never been afraid of stuff like this so I guess that's my answer! lol
Take care-

@Beasile um... i read up that if you get bit it is not supposed to hurt only the hairs make you sneeze a lot and if a single hair gets in your eye it is nearly impossible to get out because the hairs are so wickedly barbed but thats only what i read up
TheBrowngab 1 year ago
@Beasile i read up that these spiders when they bite it does not hurt but maybe i'm wrong i dunno

Just kill the disgusting thing.
Even you, the owner is scared to pick it up out of its cage.
SmkerBoomrHuntr4lyf 1 year ago
@SmkerBoomrHuntr4lyf I doubt he's scared, Goliath's can be nasty and they're not exactly docile at times so caution is needed.

would you ever put any animal in there that may be a potential threat to your spider?
theYguy300 1 year ago
@theYguy300
how much of a potential threat? If your thinking of another predator that might eat the tarantula...No, I will not do that.
However, a mouse (food for the tarantula) might get lucky and bite off a leg while the tarantula is killing it. Technically the mouse dose pose a small threat, but the tarantula is a bigger threat to the mouse. I have fed him mice.
Beasile 1 year ago
@Beasile
I was thinking more of the lines of an emperor scorpion, the giant hornet, or the archimantis monstrosa, the largest species of mantis (flightless because of its massive size). The mantis hunts small ground animals such as turtles, snakes, large spiders, hornets and wasps, certain scorpions, and rodents such as a rat. they are even know to chase after small dogs. last but not least a camel spider? any of those would you have near the tarantula?
theYguy300 1 year ago
@theYguy300
no

@Beasile Hmmm, can I put my emperor scorpion in there with it? Haha jk :P

TehRunescapeHour 1 year ago
That's pretty, big and calm spider. Very nice.
MrDoctorTomas 1 year ago
@powerliftingaddict If he was bit, nothing would happen. A tarantula's bite is about as bad and slightly worse than a bee's sting in pain, might get a little inflammation, but more or less he would be perfectly fine. However there are many other species out there such as the Sydney funnel web *sometimes considered a tarantula* whose bite can cause near instant death if not treated immediately.
