  • some were to put the hole in looool

  • bre penis?

  • what happened to kipkay

  • @jackrakino he has his own channel and he is independant now but not so many vids

  • i did this on a field trip and every one in the class thought it was the best thing and i think its really fun to do to spend extra time

  • luvin the mono-tone voice

  • this's cool, how can i have the information,plz ?:)

  • BRE IS BETTER THEN KIPKAY

  • i thought kipkay done this.

  • @crazydude40405 he did the panoramic one

  • Nice video! Quite interesting!

  • haha some thing to put the hole in THATS WHAT SHE SAID

  • Bre is so old school! I remember watching him back in 2006 or something

  • @YoyoSquirrel he uploaded this in 2006

  • could you send me the pdf? I can't find it on the internet.

    Thank you!

  • Can i use duct tape for the pinhole?

  • So this means you could make a HUGE version of this and get HUGE pictures?

  • apple now presents.. the new ipod shuffle with the new iPinholeCamera feature.

ipod shuffle - the smallest peace of s**t with a camera

  • the first inventor of the pin whole camera was a muslim inventor " Ibn Al haitham" and the word camera comes from the arabic word "KAMRA" which means the dark room :D

  • he seems like he was forced to do this..

  • @brandonleow at gunpoint!!!??

  • nice

  • altoids tin camera!!

  • gooooooo briiiiiiii!!!

  • U MAN ARE FTD

  • Haha. "It's SOOPER SOOOOPER thin."

  • oh! and he also forgot to mention that when you develop directly to photographic paper you will actually get a negative image, that is when you use the most common types of paper not the positive-positive kind. KTHXBAI! <3

  • Holy crap,I want to make my own pinhole camera.

  • O.o "trial by error" ??? obviously this guy hasn't got a clue about all the mathematics behind the topic. Seriously, everything about pinhole is mathematic and you can get the perfect result at the first time as long as you bother to take that 10 extra minutes to find out all the whats, hows and whys :)

  • bre pettis is the best host

  • is he gay?

  • You lift up the flap and expose it to light for 2 seconds. The light-sensitive paper will capture the pattern of light rays and it makes a picture.

  • Can anyone send me the link to this other video of him showing pictures taken with a pinhole camera?

  • i made one of these in school. very neat.

  • SO, one must also account for the reciprocity failure of the film or paper being used in the camera! (wikipedia has a mediocre explanation of "reciprocity failure").

  • Or you could just calculate the ƒ/stop of the pinhole so you get proper exposures everytime...

Find the ƒ/stop by solving for N:

    N=ƒ/D

Where "ƒ" is the distance from the film plane to the aperture, "D" is the diameter of the aperture (pinhole). Use a micrometer to measure the pinhole or use a drill bit of a known size. "N" is the resulting ƒ/stop number. For most pinhole cameras the ƒ-number ("N") will be quite high, like ƒ/100 or more, so exposures will usually be long...

  • good work

  • It is important to paint the inside of the pinhole camera BLACK or there will be a lot of flare. Use black mate paint.

  • i have the smae drill as you lol

  • he loves to be drilled.

  • i don't get it... how does it take pictures??

  • the light from the hole in the camera (box) imprints and image on the photo paper then he devolopes the paper.

  • The same way a normal camera works.

    :D

  • I thought the exact same thing. I think when he opens the black tape from the outside of the box it automatically takes the picture using the light to mark the surface of the photo paper. If that's the case -- I could very well be wrong -- then making a cover that has a tape hinge would probably be easier than to pry off the tape everytime you take a picture.

  • Actually, I just read (wiki lol) that it can take from a few seconds to hours to capture an image, depending on the light.

  • Bre Pettis is a bad as!!!

He's so much better than that Kip Kay guy

  • ...i dont see the differance between the two. they're both have a phd in badassery, (the study of being a badass)

  • where do i can find the pdf he's talking about in the video?

  • this guy is crazy he givs his own cat Coca Cola

  • And why is that crazy?

  • i give my dog beer whats your point

  • y do ppl keep callin him gay

might just b me but i think he sounds normal

  • No offence but shut up.

  • Thats pretty cool. Excellent tutorial. Check out my videos for tutorials on screen printing tee shirts. Questions welcome.

  • oh, and one more question, is it possible to take colour pictures with a pinhole camera?

heh. sorry about so many questions? peace

  • 1: A wash

2: I dunno how long he did it for, but it all depends on how light it is when you take a picture. The lighter it is, the shorter ammount of time you want to expose it. The darker it is, the longer you want to expose it.

    3: dunno. :P

And you might be able to take colour photos, but you would need colour film/ photography paper.

  • questions:

    1. what is the third thing you need, paper fixer, paper developer and ...?

    2. for how long did you expose the camera to the light when taking the picture (of a car) that turned out fine? are we talking like second or minutes? and was it sunny outside?

    3. Exactly where and how do you attache the foto paper inside the camera?

okey so i know nothing about this but would absolutley love to learn!

Yhis was an awsome job , cant wait to try to do this :)

    Love from sweden!

  • stuff

  • Lol his bathroom looks like a methlab

  • lmfaoo i thought i was the only one that noticed

  • wheres kipkay???????

  • this is an older video, kipkay was not here yet

  • @loolollol he was not make videos for make: when this video was made

  • @loolollol He usually has original ideas.

  • This guy's like Ross Gellar from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.!

  • @batfan1939 No, he's not. There is a resemblance, though. Ross Gellar is acted by David Schwimmer. This is Bre Pettis.

  • @HumbleThudwigThud I was saying he looked similar, not that it was the same actor.

  • este tio es el flipy guiri.....flipa tron¡¡¡¡¡

  • this guy is the flip ..... flipy guiri tron ¡¡¡¡¡

  • you can hear police sirens at 3:20

  • ...yeah... wierd huh? but its realy quiet like it wasnt supposed to be there but slipped not realy anythign to note wouldve missed if u hadnt commented

  • made one in photography class its a fun to do but. STICK WITH DIGITAL!!!!!!!!

  • why? both standerd technology and digital have there flaws so its better using both in my opinion

  • did that at science class

  • Kipkay rocks this guy

  • Both are awesome.

  • they all rok

  • That was neat! I'm glad I came across your video! Thanks for sharing!

  • this guy is like 5 times better

  • Comment removed

  • so true

  • i made one of those in fifth grade! it was a science project we had to do. a lot of us got A's

  • whate are the chemicels?

  • these are all stupid comments

  • Stupid comments are good.

  • How did he even "take pictures" with this? I don't get it

  • He just pulls the tape off of the pinhole for a moment to expose the photo paper to the light and then covers the hole again. It's the same principle as a normal camera, just no lens.

  • this guy copied fro "kipkay

  • i dont think so cus its uv light(?)

    But i dont realy know

  • no he didnt kipkay made a scanner camera this is different

  • Considering Kipkay works for Make Magazine, I don't think so

  • I'm starting to do a lot of this myself now. I used an altoid box for my camera body. But will it be okay to use a black light for my safe light when developing?

  • No. Only red light will work. If you know somebody that works in a camera store they'll tell you the same thing.

  • No, it either has be a red or yellow safelight. I suggest BH Photo product number ARSL5R

  • Does he have a lisp or am I crazy due to drug abuse?

  • no its the gay lisp. its slightly different

  • What the hell is the purpose of this?yeah,i know it saves $ but,What the fuck?are you a spy or something?????

  • It's called having fun, or a hobby.

  • i guess nobody understands that the point of making your own camera instead of buying a disposable one is for the simple fact of what you think looks good, and the fact that it's yours. something you bought? or something you created yourself? you choose i guess.

  • it's best to just look up Photo Paper and properties of light somewhere. Wiki and Google guys ;)

  • i dont wanna know what he did with his small trays either :(

  • i just bought a normal camera?:)

  • "A drill is a very handy thing to have an a work shop" Lol way to point out the obvius xD

  • SHUPER SHUPER THIN

    Well thank god XD

  • i prefer takin a camera and make some photos ;)

  • that guy looks like(buddy holly)

  • still don't understand.

  • Can you make a variation of this using a cereal box with a point-and-shoot camera?

  • I actually created a pinhole camera a loongtime ago.

Was looking in old books and stuff.

And now you have helped me with the rest of the stuff :D (i already knewed gow to take the pircture)

  • hey scienc you made one befor can i just open light and get photo or do i HAVE to use darkroom and shit?

  • lmao dude :P thats what i want to know whats all this shit with chemicals i thought u just open it and bang photo

  • that's polaroid. film emulsion is light sensitive, that's how it captures the image. the dark room stuff is to lock in the image.

  • well ok but buying all this shit to create a photo wouldent it be cheaper to just buy a disposable camera?

  • in effort and stuff. but when you're photo savvy, you like to play with everything =P

i guess the concept is what counts though. one could use more common items found around the house.

  • ye true :P

  • i think im in love with you.........

  • nice microscope demo!

  • did that in a school projekt but from a milkpacket with black paper in it covering all..

  • man i got to do one for photography. this was really helpfull

  • fucking moron u dont put photo dev. chemicles down ur drain u dumbass it will go ingto ur river or what ever ur cities whater supply is and pollute it, its all gunna come back to u.

  • he never actually put them down the drain he just had them over the tub, however you are correct if he had its not very smart

  • At 2 colleges I attended we did just that without a silver reclaim, so you think 30 or 40 students a day printing all day long 5 days a week, thats a lot of chemistry going down the drain.

  • how are u suppost to take the pictures with it

  • at school i made one like the one that he showed in the beginning, all you do is take a subject and hold it still or leave the camera directly in front of it and let the paper absorb the light for about 20 seconds to 2 minutes it ust depends on how cloudy the day is.

  • i don't have thoes kinds of chemicals

  • its such a great help for me...!!! thanks...!!!

  • I'm trying to duplicate a pinhole camera used in U.S. POW camps in WWII (Pacific Theater). Camera construction would seem to have been simple enough, but any thoughts on what would have been done for creating film with very little to no resources? Thanks!

  • did you have to use bad language?

  • It is called art

  • I have to make one for Science and Art!! Gosh it's soo anoying.. anyway .. this kinda helped

  • I just have one question: Who the FUCK has a pencil case?

  • kids

  • yo wat the hell i don't get this my head hurts

  • you can get the f-stop for your pinhole camera by using the formula: d=1.9 * sqrt(fx) where d is the diameter of the pinhole, f is distance from the pinhole to paper and x is the wavelength of the light (all in meters). light is about 550 nm. After you find "d", then you can apply d/f and get your f-stop

  • exactly

  • huh?

  • Ok, the f-stop is the aperture of your camera, and the f-stop controls depth of field, which is the amount of the image that is in focus. The f-stop is necessary for making exposure calculations with a lightmeter. So, if you use the formula above, d=1.9 x the square root(the distance from the pinhole to the paper x 0.0055), thus getting the diameter of your pinhole. then you just divide the diameter of your pinhole by the distance from the pinhole to the paper and you have the f-stop of your cam

  • Recently i found why film cam is still awesome.

The feel of photos , you can find out in digital cam

  • i also wanted to write that :P its nice to do when you dont have anything to do

  • hey i was wondering how much the chemical stuff to develop the picture costs? Thanks a bunch I'm doing a project on this stuff :D

  • Well, it depends. If you buy it in liquid form, it will cost about $30 and if you buy it in powder form (much more concentrated) it'll cost $24. If you buy concentrate, you also need lightproof bottles to put them in

  • you can make one with pieces of cardboard and electrical tape. like, $5.

  • I made this and it's really cool. Keep on makin', Bre!

  • Altoid boxes work too

  • wow! thats cool

  • for all ya'll with the lame ass comments... ya'll should get an ass-hole camera!!

  • i hav a photography class, and we were taking pictures uusing our pinhole camera, it was great!

  • omg ive been staring at the same coment 4 weekes thanx for posting

  • this is good thnxx for posting this video since i'm a art student and my proffesor of fotography and gavers us a homework of making a ''PINHOLE'' camera, at first i din't understood of what my proffesor said, but when i saw this video it helped me alot, ^_^ rating 1000/5

  • My canon 30D is not impressed!!!! No seriously, thx for the great video. Very nice.

  • Pinhole cameras are lame. I hated doing this for class. I'd rather use a real camera and get a decent image without wasteing too much paper than do this crap and waste lots of paper for a crappy image.
