The Boss and The Sorrow were a couple during WWII during which Ocelot was conceived and born. Shortly after the war The Boss was forced to kill The Sorrow during a pre-Cold War mission. Afterwards she met Big Boss and she became his mentor/lover.

@5haow5 The Boss had such a sad story. I still cry while playing MGS3. It has just that good of a story. To be killed by her love/student and branded as a tratior cause she was deep undercover. It really sad. The MGS Stories are so good. The ending of 2 was a bit touch and go but lucky 4 redimed it self by fixing the plot holes. I hoping that they will make a MGS 5. I really hope that PSP game is not the last one.

Because you could only go up and down. One path while you just climbed higher and higher. The idea (just my guess) was to show Snake's assent upwards and have it as his "fight". Think about it. You're just climbing a this huge ladder and you get this theme song playing while there's nothing else to do. It also gives a sense of depth to the environment and shows how far underground you were plus that's one big ass ladder! :)
