Protests can make a difference actually. Universal suffrage & equal rights for ethnic minorities are 2 things that have been achieved through this sort of process so far, and I don't see why there won't be more such advances resulting from protest in the future. And in both the cases, I mentioned, unenlightened onlookers made comments similar to yours. The suffragettes were seen as the biggest nuisance in the country, chaining themselves to railings etc. but noone would deny women the vote now.

If Iran gets nuclear weapons I would go and protest there and if North Korea gets nuclear weapons it will have done so after talks were hampered by the hypocrisy of Britain and the US.

Protesting is not ultimately about change - although that is the most favvoured outcome - it is about doing the right thing.

You are correct on both accounts and my point was that the possibility of those tests going ahead was severely increased by Britains nuclear arsenal. My experience of nuclear weapons is that they destroy thousands of civilian lives for little to no justification. I say that's wrong - you are welcome to disagree. I try and do something about it as Jody Williams states regularly 'Emotion without action is irrelevant'. If you feel so strongly pro nuclear weapons I suggest you do something about it.
