I am curious: did Harvey Korman get a best supporting actor nomination for this? If he did'nt, as I suspect, he was robbed; this is his best performance ever, including all his years with Carol Burnett
I love love love this film but this scene, for me, as a Methodist Local Preacher in the UK, is by far the best. I am watching now and trying to keep up with Harvey as he does it. Great stuff Mel.
I'll be playing Harvey Korman's role in this clip Thursday night in Philadelphia as i go around the parking lots recruiting Philly's finest to handle the MEXICAN invasion.
In all honesty, when it comes to this movie, I agree with what Mel Brooks says during the Ping-Pong scene; "Hand these out to the boys in lieu of pay, and enjoy!" Does anyone agree with me?
Do you remember this line near the end that they probably couldn't say today because of political correctness? "All right, we'll give some land to the niggers and the chinks but we don't want the irish" And to think many of those line were written by Richard Pryor. RIP.
Gee I wonder who your team could be??? Like them or not they support their team good or bad. I'm halfway between Philly and Baltimore and all O's games either at Memorial Stadium or Camden Yards the fans were always there through the good or the bad. And inter-league games in Philly. The Vet and Citizens Bank Park. I think those thugs you are referring to should be Eagles fans. "He rode a blazing saddle, he rode a shining star" Know all the words but I'll leave it at that.
I liked Memorial Stadium. The only problem was the location: You couldn't get in, and you couldn't get out. But it was a nice place to see a baseball game. I wish I'd seen a football game there. Philly can be a bit rough, though. Especially the Flyers. They really are, and have been since the '70s, the Oakland Raiders of hockey.
Yes Memorial stadium was nice. If you parked farther away you were ok. You realize I'm talking about Red Sox fans in Memorial Stad. and Camden Yards-(Fenway south). You get Yankee fans too(which I believe you are)in Camden Yards. You never really saw that many in Memorial Stad like you did Red Sox fans. Trust me Eagle fans are way worse then Flyer fans.
Back in the 70,s I had a tv shop next to a bar here in Albuquerque. I had a cable run over there and the request from Pete and the crowd was dominated by a tape, BLAZING SADDLES That is when the boss was out THANKS NORM.
Eh, we're both sorta right. He was only in the first scene, not the second. The second scene, while in its entirety does contain Harvey Korman, isn't displayed at all.
I suppose I'm just skeptical that the title of this is "Harvey Korman" as opposed to, say, "Funny scenes from Blazing Saddles", since he isn't showcased in all of the recounted clips. But that's just me.
The Academy Awards didn't think he was worthy enough to include in their listing of actors who died in 2008. Isn't the list of reasons why the Academy Awards is shameful getting awfully long?
@MacLanny Korman starred alongside Mel Brooks as well as other films. Don Knotts, Lucille Ball, Milton Berle were but some of the people who made the list over the years that were primarily known as TV performers. In their case their TV credits eclipsed their film credits. Not so for Korman who's work in films like BLAZING SADDLES, RADIOLAND MURDERS, HISTORY OF THE WOLRD: PART 1 & a couple dozen other films are seen more now than the Burnett show. So your argument doesn't hold water.
I like the line(and I thought this was the scene) when Korman embraces Slim Pickens and Slim goes "Ow"! Then Korman says "Why Tagart, you've been injured"! when he notices bandages on his head. Then Slim says: "Oh, that uppidy nigger went and hit me on the head with a shovel"!
RIP Harvey Korman he was ans still is my favorite comedy actor. my history teacher showed this movie to us on the last day of skool. hey it talks about history.
Oh snap! He died 29th of May? Makes me sad.. He was so good in this movie! He died exactly 2 weeks ago whne I wrote this.. Rest in peace... "Hold it, hold it! What the hell was that shit?!" <3
The whole premise of the movie was to combine 1874 with 1974. In fact, that was original idea of the film before Brooks and Pryor even re-wrote it. Jesus, man, don't take things so literally!!
So right and so wrong! I was looking for the best Harvey Korman moments, and found Slim Pickens, oh man, love that guy! RIP both, and Madeline Kahn and Clevon Little!
