beautiful. simply beautiful. these are my only things i would fix; there is no need to put vibrato on every note (like eighth notes and quarter notes. not half notes and whole notes and the like) and when you are doing vibrato, try to make it slow then faster depending on the speed and the mood of the piece
godspeed and please don't give up what you're doing!
Approximately how long did this Liebermann take you, and how did you know you were ready to take such a challenging piece? I'm debating upon it as I've been studying since I was in 5th Grade and am attending Interlochen Summer Arts Camp this summer, and love this piece. Just curious. Thank you!
Hi Patricia! Congratulations for your performance! Liebermann Flute Concerto is very beautiful work. I'm Argentinian Flutist.. I'm looking for this score, becouse here is impossible can to buy this work.
Could you send me it? please!
thank very much... I enjoyed a lot of your interpretation!
:) Ya...we've had lots of technical difficulties. Just bought a new camcorder so hopefully there will be new stuff. Hopefully you'll have another opportunity to capture it on video.
one of my favorite pieces! My only areas of opportunity for you would be tapered releases, softer dynamic on the first page and I think overall you are a little flat to the piano. I have found that pianos are tuned a little higher than we are used to playing. All of these are simple fixes! The sky is the limit for you!
I am trying to pick mvt 1 or 3 from the liebermann concerto op. 39. I like how you personalized the piece to work for you!!!good job!! it looks way tough!!
Mvt. 3 is VERY fast. Liebermann is trickier than it looks. Started working on mvt. 1 as a HS freshman, had a Masterclass with Mary Karen Clardy and put it away. Each year would take it out and put it away. Summer 07 worked on it with Jill Felber and put it away again. When state solo came there were 6 others doing Prokofiev and pulled this back out at last minute. The ensemble is very tricky and accompaniment is hard.
Also, we did cuts to meet time limits and the accompanist missed the last cut :) This piano was not in tune with itself in upper and lower octaves. This was a borrowed flute that warmed-up very quickly wasn't used to it's tempermental pitch changes.
Great job! Make sure you distinguish between triplets and groups of 2 sixteenths with an eighth. The latter sounds a bit like triplets, which is odd because usually the opposite is the case. Really a very good job with a difficult work, though!
I go to the Columbus State University where I'm about to enter my senior year (same school as the two in the video of the the Liebermann flute/guitar duo).
I actually don't spent much time playing piccolo, but I'm rotated on it for ensembles all the time.
I know you posted that question a couple million years ago, but I thought better late than never to answer :-P
The most imporant thing you can do in college is take care of yourself physically. Prioritize sleep equally to the rest of your daily activities. I can't tell you how many nights I've stayed up late trying to cram for a lesson or a test, then in next day's lethargic unproductivity thought "I should've just gone to sleep." Regard rest as an important activity, and make time for it. It's kind of common sense advice, but it's common sense that so few college students follow!
So does Patti... THANKS. About a week from competition she switched back to this after not playing it for a year as we learned ther were four others playing Prokofiev. Tough ensemble to pull off. The piano was out of tune with itself...and she had some intonations issues too--cold flute that warmed up quickly in a packed warm room. Then to top it off..accompanist missed last cut. Okay...story told :):)
Yeah, I didn't know until I commented on your dramaness of a play. It was pretty awesome, but I suppose you know Oya. Not very well, but she's up there with me. Anyway...it's very odd when I reread the comments know it was you. Well, Have a great rest of the day mate. :P
Yeah, I also play the flute, And am thinkin' about this song. I actually have been lookin' for solos so I can try for a scholarship. Of course, she is MUCH, MUCH more brilliantly amazing than i
Aw, how bad can you be? :) I bet you practice every day thinking that you are bad while everyone around you complements how good you really are. If you don't mind me asking, do you actually enjoy the flute because the person that I know who plays it says she didn't like it but now she does. What do you think? (This is directed toward jazzinmusic09)
Are you a HS senior or already in college? Liebermann isn't done much...dont' know why. What other options were you considering? How long do you have to work on something?
I actually really didn't care for the flute, I have always enjoyed playing. Just recently I have learned to love it. I am a HS senior. I have a few monthes before auditions.
Do you mean you'll be entering your senior year? Flute is pre-audition to be invited to audition...so start planning now. You'll need to meet very specific requirements per the university or conservatory you choose. In general you'll need: scales, arpeggios;JS Bach;Complete Mozart Concerto; one Romantic and one Contemporary: 2-4 orchestral excerpts. Use your pre-audition CD or DVD as your scholarship CD too. GOOD LUCK--step-by-step :) :)
Hi there. Wow...really? What do you consider a harder piece? This is very much at the top and not well recorded. At a masterclass Galway said the Liebermnan recordings were among the hardest he'd done.
Wow Thats pretty amazing, your soooo... good on that flute, could listen all day !!!! 5 stars coming at ya !
