One more "name of the painting" question: what's the name of that at 3:17 please? Megan, you did a great job - I have never seen so many artistic, really telling and deep pictures in a YT video. Respect! No need to say that I enjoyed all the rest. Beautiful combination...
@colihen Of course - when I ask a question I usually find the answer myself :) L. W. Hawkins, The Haloes (1894). IMPORTANT: if you're looking for the name of any painting in the video, this might help: 1) take a screenshot of the picture (crop it, create a small JPG/PNG...) 2) Go to the webpage tineye "dot" com and upload your image 3) It's highly probable that in the found matches you'll find either author or the painting or both :) Hope this helps.
Love is the very process of passing over, of transformation, of stepping outside the limitations of fallen humanity-in which we are all separated from one another and ultimately impenetrable to one another-into an infinite otherness. "Love to the end" is what brings about the seemingly impossible metabasis: stepping outside the limits of one's closed individuality, which is what agape is-breaking through to the divine. Jesus of Nazareth ~ Pope Benedict XVI
Yes I love this slide show it shows great tenderness and inner beauty and it captures the mystics heart. I watch it over and over and I find it so spiritually uplifting, so thank you megans spark truly beautiful.
so beautiful. so honest. so true. Loreena McKennit explores Christian mysticism. sadly, it seems that many Christians today repress and/or deny the very idea of having dark nights of the soul, this wooshes right over their heads. (maybe if we stopped over-thinking, and allowed for a bit more contemplative mirror gazing and gut feeling)
The Christian maps, the Sufi maps, the Buddhist maps of the Tibetans and the Theravada, and the maps of the Khabbalists and Hindus are all remarkably consistent in their fundamentals. (…) These maps, Buddhist or otherwise, are talking about something inherent in how our minds progress in fundamental wisdom that has little to do with any tradition and lots to do with the mysteries of the human mind and body. -- Daniel Ingram
Great use of Pre-Raphaelite images. Loreen herself says it was inspired by rather than a literal translation. Moreover, it's working on about a thousand different levels. Everyone can take something from it. It was that wonderful mysticism that kept the Counter Reformation from becoming a worse bloodbath than it was.
You're videos are the most beautiful my family & I have ever encountered on youtube! Thank you for these treasures. Both my Mom & I have posted both this & your Klimt video to our facebook pages for our friends to enjoy.
I would be very grateful to know the name of the painting that appears from 5:42-5:52. The profile is identical to my Mom's & we would love to buy a print for our home.
ATTN visitors-- if anyone visiting knows the creator of the art in question please leave a reply. I have since purchased a new computer and have no background files on this video. Your help would be appreciated :)
@thecrew2008 I found it using the method I outlined in one of my comments below. It should be "Le sphinx et la chimere" by L. W. Hawkins. Greetings :)
Saint John of the Cross was truly one of the great mystics to come to this earth. Hos book "Dark Night of the Soul" is a relevant now as it was when it was written 5 centuries ago, and Loreena McKennitt captured his poetry in song exquisitely.
I would've preferred to see more Christian images and not a woman with a halo and showing her breast for eg., ah yes, all is art of course and must sell a lot but if we are Christians, we have to have discernment unless we enjoy living in the christian relativism, the mainstream tendency. *sigh*
Also, as the vid cover, you picked the same woman showing her breast and as channel background you picked the painting of St. Mary Magdalene naked, well, well...hmmm.
You have always had a true talent for editing these videos and always picking just the right song to accompany the visuals. Another wonderful, relaxing almost mystical presentation. Thank you so much. This is certainly worth more than five stars.
I love Loreena so much. Her songs help to disillude the horrible misconception that all that is dark is evil.
Remember, the light can guide your way, but it can also blind you. The dark can shield you and keep you safe, but it can also withold the truth. There are two sides to everything.
Never shall a love like you come in my life again. Such Love i have for You, My Heart is alive becuase of you. God, How i Love You My Flower, Forever.
If I was forced to choose (which, thankfully, I'm not) I would have to say this is my favorite Loreena song. Many reasons. This video you have made is exquisite, capturing the tone, classical, mythical and aesthetic references. You got it! Can't wait to see some more of your work. Thank you!
The ballad (song) is beautifully sung and well placed with the pictures you have chosen M. There's a taunting medieval touch which draws me closer to the relationship of words, sounds and images. TY M.
Those lyrics we are listening, do not belong St. John of the Cross. It´s a shame to corrupt one of the most beautiful poems ever written. This singer is a thief.
I´m not a deaf soul, and neither this is St. John of The Cross poem "The Darkest Night of the Soul". Loreena McKennitt owns a wonderful voice, but it is not right for anyone to change the ancient message, this man wrote inside his poems.
Thank you, I was getting the wrong impression of your words. I myself have never read the words, and with this song it paints a wonderful picture in my mind. I thought she did a great job. Is it to my understanding he wrote many wonderful messages? And where might I find them? Thanks-- and sorry =(
It´s always a pleasure to share different views, and still have the chance to reconcile them. Saint John of The Cross poem, Dark Night of the Soul and perhaps made by request of Saint Teresa of Avila, shows you a woman whose inflamed heart by love, guides her through the night towards her beloved. A lover is never mentioned. There is a user in YouTube, parakaleim, that shares in his collection a video named; Noche Oscura-San Juan dela Cruz , very well performed by a Spanish singer.
I'm from Spain, I lived 6 years in the states, if there's anyone who really expressses the thoughts of St. John of the Cross in a song, that's Lorena MacKennith. This poem has hunted me since I was a child.
If you were born in Spain, then you must read St. John of The Cross original poems written in old castille. There is no comparison between what Loreena McKennitt wrote and the original work of St. John of The Cross.
Wao!Congratulations, I love it a lot! This poem of San Juan de la Cruz is one of my favourites, it lyric is so expressive and mistic. And also Lorena Mac Kennit is one of the best singers nowadays. Thanks for this special gift!
