We all know Vivian isn't Steve, but OMFG,the man was awesome on this intro!! He plays very differently, far more disciplined, but this was simply EPIC!!! Def Leppard, Forever. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o now.
@jasebrown46 I'm not sure if it was his stick or someother part of his kit went flying - connecting rod or something...didn't affect his sound though!!
He recorded most of the sparkle lounge using a Squier Telecaster that cost about $150. The PC1 is the best guitar ive ever played, all Fenders and Gibsons rolled into one guitar.
Yea i think you're right cos on the In the Round tour, Steve played it with a gibson and Phil played the solo so they probably just swithced places so he could give Vivian his big break.
@tommy81296 i'm agree, vivian is a good guitarrist, but steve was the best guitar player in def leppard , R.I.P Steve "steamin' " Clark the "riff master"
he should have stayed with dio but hes a good guitar player , he tries to mimick eddie van halen alot , maybe he should be like phil and just use jacksons period better sound ,,,,,,,,,,,,
If Viv wrote all of the intro here, would say the second part of it starting at 3 01 and not including obviously into GOW, is his best work and very Leppard.
i remember seeing this live in the round in Nov of 92 in Atlanta. I was blown away, and that was the moment I was hooked in Def Leppard. Viv just does his job, quietly, and effectively. Funny to see Phil play a Les Paul, which was the inspiration he told me in an AOL Q and A for the PC1, a strat and les paul mixed. This is just terrific, thanks so much for posting.

vivian did this solo almost the same way he did when he was with whitesnake in 87

Viv's solo was cool and all. I just think it sounded a little irrelevant to the context of the song.
