Yes, it's definitely tough to go without electricity. Luckily for us we got off the island after 5 days. But I understand the people who stayed behind were without electricity for months as well. I'm glad I didn't have to go through that. Props to you!
@dahottie45 yes becouse suffering is a contest i was here and trust me it sucked. everything iv come to know and love be destryed and seing dozens of rotting corpses that were washed out of the graves i didnt give a flying fuck about my electricity i hust wanted my house back.
hey i have one more question—does anyone know about shelters right after the storm? where did those who had lost their homes stay? if anyone has any info, that would be muchly appreciated! :)
there are shelters around the island but most of them were on weak grounds and those who had last their homes lives on the western side of the island while other homes were damaged, but repairable
raeshine, i think i met you in early '06. it was some dinner party, i was there with my friend tara and our buddy scuba steve when i was visiting the island... you might not remember me. my name was elena. maybe it wasn't you but the couple i met looked so much like you guys! crazy.
I was in Ivan and me and family were okay. It was the longest hurricane we ever went through. When it was done we drove out and saw that everything was destroyed. A dragon from canton in west bay was all the way in george town now THAT was bad. All I could think was I hope dadd'ys okay. My daddy said that the roof of his house came off. And when we drove in town a house that was on the LEFT handside was completely demolished on the right hand side. THE SAME HOUSE. IT WAS VERY VERY BAD.
Excellent video! I was in the Kirk Freeport building with you. We were in the room the window blew in. It was very scary and I was probably one of those people who thought we could die... it was an experience we lived through but like you, I would never want to do it again.
i was there that was my 1st badd badd hurricane i was so scared yea man it was badddd we had 2 tsnamis so i hear and it wa like howling wind like a squeeling baby it had alot of noises man
We had 200 mph winds weather channel is wrong i kno plp and theyt sed it was worse
Excellent presentation that really gives the "feel" of Ivan in Cayman. I produced a coffee table book called "Paradise Interrupted" about Ivan here and can testify that this video superbly puts it in a "nutshell" for your consumption. Well done!
That was a really tough hurricane. I am a born Caymanian and 100% Caymanian and this was my first hurricane. But that is a good thing in a way because bad storms hit Grand Cayman like once every 20 years or so
Yeah, that was a tough one. Did Gustav do a lot of damage? I'm in the US now and was watching the news closely to see how Grand Cayman did during the storm. But the news here didn't really say anything about it.
i waz in that hurricane :( what an experience :(((((

oxfordpictionary 2 years ago
the storm lasted for 2 days and the waves lasted for 3 days, and that includes both ts force and hurricane force
